Day One of my personal challenge, no alcohol for September - anyone care to join me ...? brew

Anya Sat 19-Sept-15 22:59:21

Yes, all went smoothly. They really are no problem, especially now they're used to coming and know the routine. Just wish they'd sleep past 6.00am!

Didn't even think about drink tonight. It's my daughters 44th on October 1st so invited her and her family round for a home made curry and a nice wine to go with it.

Like you JG I am going to cut right back from then onwards. Was thinking of buying just one bottle per week and when it's gone it's gone hmm

jogginggirl Sun 20-Sept-15 10:49:55

As long as you don't have to share it with anyone Anya hmm

I think in future I will be saving my wine for Fri/Sat nights and celebrations/holidays wink
We'll see how-- long that lasts-- that goes hmm

jogginggirl Sun 20-Sept-15 23:30:24

Day 20 dryathlon done! The bonus is that I feel much better, I have lost a few pounds and saved a few (£) - the surprise is that I'm really not missing it shock

Gill2008 Mon 21-Sept-15 14:14:28

Hello ladies

Still holding in there - not doing 100% but it is a lot less than August so I would say I'm having partial success , which is better than no success.smile

Anya Mon 21-Sept-15 15:58:53

Back home after a trying day. Sitting here with a nice brew when usually it would have been something stronger.

jogginggirl Mon 21-Sept-15 22:46:41

Lovely to hear from you Gill and glad to hear that you are still 'with us' grin Well done!

Hope your brew helped to relax you after your trying day Anya smile Just in case you need cheering up here are some flowers as well.

Lunch with friends today, I took my own shloer and was happy with it.
I can't believe we have just 9 days to go before this challenge wine is completed. It seemed such a mammoth task to begin with - now, what's next ...? hmm

Anya Mon 21-Sept-15 22:57:28

Thanks for the flowers JG they made me smile.

Hi Gill good to hear from you.

21/30 = 7/10 = 70% through this challenge grin

Not even thought what next yet, but open to suggestions. Possibly something to do rather than something not to do?

Thinking hat donned and open to suggestions.

Anya Mon 21-Sept-15 22:58:20

Oops, repeating myself again.

Do I come here often?

Liz46 Tue 22-Sept-15 07:29:03

Well we looked after our two little gc for three days and two nights in their own home. It is so much more difficult to cook etc. in a strange kitchen. On the way home on Sunday evening my husband glanced at me and said it was like sitting next to a corpse! We had fed the children but not ourselves so we went to the pub of course for a meal and a few drinks but I hope to be good for the rest of the month. We were still like zombies yesterday but had a dry evening and a good sleep.

Something to do instead of not do - how about daily exercise? A walk or yoga, say 5 days a week? I have a good yoga dvd but I don't use it often enough.

Anya Tue 22-Sept-15 07:59:21

I already walk a couple of miles every day but I used to have a 10 minutes exercise routine in the morning - a quick work out with hand weights followed by the Sun Salutation. That's fallen by the wayside so I could resurrect that hmm

jogginggirl Tue 22-Sept-15 22:31:07

Yoga sounds like a good idea Liz46 - I used to do it years ago and have a DVD - I think it's Linda Barker or someone who used to be is famous for somethingwink

I ventured to an Aqua class last week and actually enjoyed it, I will go again but not tomorrow as I have to take my mum to see the Consultant at the Memory Clinic sad

In readiness for my next challenge though I have been running about a mile every day for the last 10 days and I feel as if I am at least being true to my username again grin

Day 22 done...... [smile

Anya Tue 22-Sept-15 22:36:14

Day 22 indeed done.

Anya Wed 23-Sept-15 22:50:37

I know you've had a bad day JG but hang on in there. You can do it, only a week left to go (((hugs)))

Giving in now will not make anything go away sad

jogginggirl Wed 23-Sept-15 22:53:46

Interesting - today was a really difficult one and normally I would have got home and opened a bottle of wine - I didn't.

With 7 days to go before this Dryathlon is complete I am feeling very differently about alcohol - it's been an enlightening journey smile

jogginggirl Thu 24-Sept-15 09:59:51

Anya - we must have been typing our messages at pretty much the same time last night grin

Thank you so much for thinking of me and I will hang on in there. More than ever now, I need a clear head. Perhaps there is something in the saying 'everything happens for a reason' ... hmm

Some good news - Waitrose are doing Shloer for £3.50 for two and they have all the flavours - even a pink sparkly (although that is £3 for one). I have definitely taken to the red grape and the rose versions - on ice with lashings of sparkling water!

A big question - will you be having a wine on 1st October or wait until the weekend - or not at all?
Thank you for the (((hugs)))
flowers

Anya Thu 24-Sept-15 19:20:49

Well done JG and I know what you mean about a changing attitude to alcohol. I think we're singing off the sang song sheet - alcohol is for events, happy occasions, meetings with friends, holidays (except when on a dry month sad ) and high days. What it isn't is a crutch or a 'reach for a glass because I deserve it'.

This month has brought home to me with the death of my sister on the 4th and her funeral just this week, that alcohol is a faux amis. It killed her.

But enough of the doom and gloom. Yes, I will gave a drink on October 1st as it's my daughter's 44th birthday and she and her family are coming for dinner smile and I'm going to try to bake her a gluten-free cake too.

You've been a big help in getting through this month X

jogginggirl Thu 24-Sept-15 22:56:00

Anya I'm so sorry to hear about your sister, I have just read up on the thread - this must have been a deeply emotional time for you and I hope your decision to attend the funeral has brought some closure on this sad time flowers

Of course you must celebrate on your daughter's birthday - it definitely falls into the 'happy occasions' bracket grin I also follow a gluten-free diet - I have a few cake recipes but would love to hear what you come up with for your daughter cupcake It is my birthday in October too and I hope to be in France to celebrate - probably with a glass of the local wine

It's been great having you along for support this month too smile

Anya Fri 25-Sept-15 22:57:43

Well the end is in sight now. How many more days?

Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Only 5 smile

jogginggirl Fri 25-Sept-15 23:06:29

Can you believe it?

Haven't we done well?
grin

Anya Fri 25-Sept-15 23:09:33

Yes, we can be very pleased with our little sober selves!

jogginggirl Sat 26-Sept-15 22:58:51

Just 4 days to go.
grin

Anya Sat 26-Sept-15 23:11:02

YES!

smile

jogginggirl Sun 27-Sept-15 21:35:37

3 days left.

I'm not even sure I want a wine any more.

Am I really thinking about a Go Sober October ...?

hmm confused

Anya Sun 27-Sept-15 22:54:18

I'll be disappointed with myself if I go back to an habitual glass of wine because I feel ' I deserve it' - I don't like that way of thinking about drink, of food or anything much in life.

Does that make sense?

But on a lighter note YIPEE! We've nearly done it grinwinemoon

jogginggirl Sun 27-Sept-15 23:21:38

It makes perfect sense to me smile
cheers shockconfused I mean what about abrew
