Why did you choose your name?

People's usernames intrigue me - I've got clear pictures in my head of what people look/sound like based on them grin. So I was wondering how they came about? Mine is because that is what my first grandson called me for ages before he could properly say 'Grandma'. I also like gammon but that's not the reason!

Seemed appropriate. A very ancient doctor.

I chose my name just because one of my favourite places to be is on a high cliff looking at the sea crashing below, feeling the spray and wind in my face, and the gulls crying and wheeling on the currents.

Preferably on a sunny day, with deep bue sky, and surrounded by thrift, sea campion and other lovely rockery plants. However, also a wonderful place to be on a wild and stormy day. Oh, wish I was there now!

Well, at least you know me, glass! (and still remember nag, of course wink)

glassortwo Thu 20-Aug-15 20:42:38

Well nag smile] I have lost the plot with all the name changes...haven't got a clue who was who hmm so no idea who is posting!

I have noticed that some who change their names on here (the ones I know of, of course) often change their online personality as well. Perhaps they want to present a different aspect which was missing before - I don't know...

I was Anagram when I first joined four years ago but after a while I thought it a bit pretentious and shortened it!

Mine followed me from Mumsnet, when choosing my name I was having a glass or two of red grin

Luckygirl Thu 20-Aug-15 20:31:10

I am intrigued by those who have changed their names and I have absolutely no idea what their names were before.

Gagagran Thu 20-Aug-15 20:19:02

My lovely old Mum had vascular dementia when she died aged 93 but for several years before her death she used to say "I'm going gaga" when she forgot things. So I chose my name in memory of her.

I noticed a new poster recently had used Gaga as the start of her user name but it's not me and I wish she hadn't! confused

RustyBear that is such a lovely story! Like Grannyeggs, I do envy you having him. My one and only teddy has long since disappeared. Mind you he was quite bald because I used to cut the nap off his furry little head sad

Cherrytree59 Thu 20-Aug-15 19:46:40

So glad you asked this question as I have also being wondering! Mine is the wonderful memory of sitting in under our cherry tree holding my first grandchild smile

Lona Thu 20-Aug-15 18:52:56

This is my third name and I chose it because I tend to lurk a lot and so I feel a bit like a loner.
Actually I quite like being a loner some of the time. The rest of the time I should be called Pandemonium!

Teetime Thu 20-Aug-15 18:07:51

I play golf at Teetimes! smile

Grannyeggs Thu 20-Aug-15 18:05:04

He is adorable! I had a teddy knitted by my Granny , but my brother threw it out of the car window, and my Mother wouldn't turn back for her. I have got over it now 60 years on, but envy you still having yours.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 20-Aug-15 18:01:33

That's very sweet. smile

RustyBear Thu 20-Aug-15 18:00:19

My name came with me from Mumsnet - it originally came from this little bear, which my mum knitted for me to take to school in my pocket on my first day. He's now just coming up to 54 years old and enjoys retirement on my bedside table.

Grannyeggs Thu 20-Aug-15 17:50:08

lynda we seemed to eat a lot of eggs when I was little, and , according to my Mother, I always had egg on my face, clothes and in my hair,so that name stuck with me all my life. Only family, not my friends I'm glad to say.

Pittcity Thu 20-Aug-15 17:42:01

Lucky, I wasn't a Pitt before I married, so you'd be a relative of DH, or Brad of course!

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 20-Aug-15 17:28:43

I didn't exactly choose my name. Who would?! confused

Luckygirl Thu 20-Aug-15 17:21:59

I was a Pitt before I married, so you might be a long lost relative for all I know!

Pittcity Thu 20-Aug-15 17:14:23

Mine is our family name and the fact that our house is "like Piccadilly Circus!" It has been my Internet name since the dawn of the internet as I am not worried about people knowing who I am.

dustyangel Thu 20-Aug-15 17:06:53

Mine is a play on words of my email address.

I like your new name Alea, not that I disliked your old ones. Without ever having seen you, this one seems to suit you better. hmm

Does anyone know the new name of the poster who left about the same time as you? She said she had been outed and was coming back under a new name.

Alea Thu 20-Aug-15 16:52:51

I left GN because I felt very upset and somewhat "got at". Why? No idea grin now but at the time it was a bit of a no-go area.
Then I thought about "lurking" and realised I was missing some lovely people. I dithered and I dathered and eventually made the decision not to cut my nose off to spite my face as it were! The phrase " iacta alea est" ( the die is cast) came to me as I took the plunge, hence Alea.

EllenT Thu 20-Aug-15 16:38:26

Same tactic as katek. How dull! It also reflects one I use on another site.

Luckygirl Thu 20-Aug-15 16:27:04

Because I have been a bit unlucky recently and was hoping it might change my luck!
