Why did you choose your name?

I chose name after name to be told that it was already taken so I said to myself, 'I don't know, the mind boggles' and there you have it.

I was a Reception teacher, mine is how my children pronounced my real name

Mine is the same handle I've used on other sites. I suggested "Mary" at first and was asked if I wanted to be something like "Mary3027". I didn't.

I'm rather unusual in that I actually chose my real name. There are some quite reasonable ways to choose, but I just knew I was Mary.

I chose Rosie because it sounds warm and friendly,
[wish it was my real name] and bee as it's the initial of my first name which is very dull. But I do like being called Bee by my DH .

Mine is part of one of my names and a play on my maiden name.

After an absence of several weeks I'm very intrigued by some of the newly returned Gnetters and trying to work out who you were!!

Mine is from a poem I used to laugh about while a brownie. I changed my original name due to a nasty divorce one of my family was going through and I did not want to be recognised.
I know I have already explained this, but there are new folk, hence explanation.

My real name is Candy. (This was cute as a child, not so great as a grannie, but I'm used to it.) Many years ago I was on holiday in Amsterdam, chatting with the landlady in the B&B and her adorable 4 year old son. She was American, her husband was Dutch and they were all multilingual. At one point, she was on the phone, speaking another language and her son looked at my blank expression and in a darling moment of discovery, said to me "You don't have any idea what she is saying, do you??". In any event, when he was running through the room we were in, he forgot my name was Candy, and called me Schnackie, which I assume is a Dutch word for a treat! I loved it. My daughter wants her children to call me that when they are old enough to pronounce it!

Back in the days of Microsoft Groups I wanted to use my teenage nickname but it was already taken so I added to it and became 1stmousle but I got fed up of people calling me first so I decided to come up with a new name. Someone in the group once referedto me as dat eejit, jokingly I might add, and it just stuck but I dropped the dat in the end and became EEjit.

I'm afraid my user name is boring too. Should have used the nickname my dad used to call me 'Crystal Jollybottom' or Jolly for short, right up until the day he died and I was in my late 50s. I asked where it came from and he said it was a character in an old comedy radio programme. Looked it up recently and Patricia Hayes played Crystal Jollybottom, who's catchphrase "Stop it, you saucebox", in Take it From Here.

A Janela means the window in Portuguese. I belong to a club called International Women in Portugal and the club magazine is called A Janela.

My husband always called me this, I don't know why!

A contraction of my first name, and a bit like Grandma! Not very original but I like it.

Mine is the name of the street where my mother in law was brought up in Glasgow. It later became the name of the cottage where she lived and is now my user name for lots of things. This is an interesting thread.

I play the alto sax so was trying to think of a name connected to that. I then remembered I had just planted some saxifrage so it seemed a reasonable name. However i am still mainly lurking rather than posting!

I was called glamma by my DGD when she was a bay she couldn't get to grips with nanna for some reason and my name just sort evolved from there,I have always had the same name since first joining at the very beginning of GN I think there is another glamma version by another member but I decided to keep mine the same but I have kept up with most of the name changes of other original members.I am also lurking more just at present due to the discomfort of this stupid broken shoulder and the discomfort it is causing me.

I wanted to use 'Annabel', a name I was called by a very beautiful young man with whom I had a brief relationship. Then I thought all the grandmothers were not the correct audience for that so used a Granny name. Then I read some very unsuitable posts from all you lovely people and wished I had used it.

My name is because that's what I am. I have run a Teddy bear and Doll hospital for almost 40years.

I always liked the users name Micelf and her husband was Hymnself. I haven't seen her post for ages. Mine refers to the name my DGS1 didn't get.

Mamma is the name for Grandma in this area and my last name begins with N. Simples.
