Why did you choose your name?

People's usernames intrigue me - I've got clear pictures in my head of what people look/sound like based on them grin. So I was wondering how they came about? Mine is because that is what my first grandson called me for ages before he could properly say 'Grandma'. I also like gammon but that's not the reason!

Hi, first post here smile

cosafina your name in Spanish does indeed mean something fine.
Cosa= thing, item
Fina= fine, delicate, refined

Cosa fina is a colloquial expresion to depict something as excellent, exquisite
(although sometimes may be used sarcastically)

My name is from the book A Girl of the Limberlost which I read when I was around thirteen. I felt pity and admiration for the main character, Elnora Comstock.

Where I live everyone who has a baby girl seems to refer to her as their princess and dress her in pink.
While I am certainly not a baby girl anymore I had a stupid thought that I would love to be a pink princess and be spoilt.
It was the same time as I joined Gransnet so I thought I will be called that on here.
I have changed my mind about being spoilt and never wear pink as it does not suit me.
I still would like to be a princess though, so I will stick to it.

My cousins used to call me this when we were all children. No idea why. I was also called Pudding by my family. I was always small and slight not at all pudding-like. I rather like the ring of my username now, though I hated it then!

PS I am still quite small, but not as slight wink

Yes, I realise now how boring mine is!

purplehairstreak Mon 24-Aug-15 22:49:16

I like butterflies and Purple Hairstreak is the name of one. There's also a Green Hairstreak and a Brown Hairstreak butterfly, but the Purple was most appealing - as well as having a slightly "oddball" image!

Because of my grand daughter's love of all things Peppa Pig - and because I really am very silly. I do the daftest things.

thebeekeeperswife Sun 23-Aug-15 10:31:56

Mine is the fact that I was a beekeepers wife !!!

A very descriptive name Grannyactivist. Mine is pretty ordinary. Nan obviously and the mixed up names of the two GCs I see daily.

grannyactivist Sat 22-Aug-15 07:55:02

This is the first forum I joined (only one actually) so I had to think up a name on the spot. I have always been passionate about books and been very involved in campaigning for various things. My grandchildren called me Grannybook and one of my children jokingly called me Mummyactivist: so I combined the two.

Elrel Sat 22-Aug-15 01:08:13

I am an ELderly RELative! Simples too!

Bennan Sat 22-Aug-15 00:08:38

I'm Ben's nan -simples!

HappyNan1 Fri 21-Aug-15 23:27:59

I chose my name HappyNan1becausebi was so happy at becoming a nana. Of course I'm still very happy at being a nana but don't like the name I chose as I think it sounds twee, a bit goodytwoshoes and I'm frequently not a happynan hmm

etheltbags1 Fri 21-Aug-15 23:16:48

ana don't be so nasty as you usually are, I don't mind my name being abbreviated to ethel but I just don't like anyone missing my 't' out.
Stop always finding fault with my comments.

Nocherrytree59 Im not having an off night its just that people like ana make me sick. Nit pickers

Cherrytree59 Fri 21-Aug-15 23:12:43

Sounds etheltbag1 like you might be having an off night Perhaps things will look better in the morning.

redamanthas Fri 21-Aug-15 23:05:31

I used my favourite colour and pushed the first letter of my name to the last!!

Ana Fri 21-Aug-15 22:59:59

Oh FGS ethel tee bags 1 give it a rest! Change your name to something else if you don't like people abbreviating your username.

Leticia Fri 21-Aug-15 22:56:14

I wish that I had chosen something clever and would change if we could. Mine is from a great, great, great grandmother. I thought it quite an unusual name for a daughter of a farm labourer.

etheltbags1 Fri 21-Aug-15 22:50:41

I have noticed that some people call me ethelbags I don't like it, I am ethel tee bags. I thought they were being nasty.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 21-Aug-15 22:40:01

You must be another one.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 21-Aug-15 22:38:20

Have you always had that 't' in there etheltbags? I've never noticed it before. Always thought you were ethelbags! confused

etheltbags1 Fri 21-Aug-15 22:10:57

I thought ethel sounded unusual these days and I like tea so I became ethel t bags, they wouldn't let me just be etheltbags so I| had to add a number1 hence etheltbags1. easy.

gillogg Fri 21-Aug-15 21:45:38

Mine should be 'gillyogg' (my daughter created it for me ) but for some reason it always comes up with the y missing! My user name is 'knittingnana' because its what I do!

Candelle Fri 21-Aug-15 21:09:25

A great thread, as I am sure that many of us wonder - both at the personality behind the name (or is it just me?!) and the derivative of the name itself. Some G'netters are v clever with their nom de plumes!

Mine is very boring - my husband's name begins with C and mine with an L. Says it all really!

Thanks, Gammon for starting the thread.

Sillynanny65 Fri 21-Aug-15 20:53:28

I chose my name Sillynanny because whenever I do something to make the grankids laugh they always say "silly nanny"

Purpledaffodil Fri 21-Aug-15 20:52:55

Think there was a thread on this recently, but here goes. I put it together on one of those sites where you answer favourite? Questions to get a user name. Oddly I like purple, but am not that keen on daffodils, but perhaps it was spring when I answered the questions. I prefer the interesting ones other people have. Would change it, but CBA. grin
