Music to relax to

(50 Posts)

When I am working on the computer or having an afternoon rest I like to listen to relaxing music.

I just go onto YouTube Music and type in Latin Jazz, Oriental, Nature or Meditation and I am introduced to a variety of music which I find pleasant and relaxing.

Do you have any favourites you could recommend?

Classical -Mozart, Pachelbel, anything by the Three Tenors.
My single "go to" relaxing piece of music is however the piece which precedes the shipping forecast -"Sailing by".

Music to fall asleep to!

I still can't get onto utube. I found some wonderful music by Aziza Brahim when I was going through an Asian music phase a while back; the good thing about utube is the way that the bit at the side introduces you to other music in the same mould. I really must get my computer sorted; can't get onto Racingradio either sad. Sometimes would find whole albums that I wouldn't necessarily want to buy but loved listening to; and example being The Garden of Jane Delawney by Trees [darn it; want to listen to it now, and also want to listen to early Santana].

Anything by John Barry does it for me, although my ear worm at the moment is Janet Baker singing Elgar's 'The Land where Corals Lie'.

Thanks Alea I will try them out.

Tegan if you can get onto Gransnet I am sure that you can also get YouTube. Just type Youtube.com into your search engine and voilá it should appear then type in the name of the song and singer. The place you type this in is in the box just to the right of the Youtube logo. Do hope it works for you.

With regard to RacingRadio is this the name of a station or racing in general? I get some sport via Freeview as this has radio stations as well as tv.

Best of luck buddy.

I've listened to utube for years [ditto racingradio] but then a few months ago it all stopped working. I'm too dependant on my computer to fiddle about with it so I'm waiting for Windows 10 to come out so I can get a new one. In the meantime it's very frustrating! I'm sure that someone more technical than me could sort it out in five minutes. I often suspect that AOL [who are always offering me updates of various kinds] sometimes make life difficult for me #oramibeingcynicalhmm [pooter also crashes on a regular basis and I then have to log onto everything again; as for Facebook it seems to groan whenever I try to look at [spyon] my family and I want to go on Facebook myself as I feel not being on it make me non existent [even though I won't have any friends on it [sob]]....

This is a peaceful one, but too beautiful to work while listening!

Tegan - I am not on Facebook either. I can't stand Facebook. When DH was on it a while ago, I used to have a 'look' at what was going on. It made me feel miserable and left out. DH has deleted his account and I (and consequently he) am much happier without it. I don't feel non-existent. I have made the decision to let them get on with it and I will get on with my life. I do understand though why people feel the need to be on it, it's just not for me. Sorry - didn't mean to sidetrack his thread.

Tricia I love that one, it's like liquid gold smile

Tegan Fri 24-Jul-15 16:59:18

I know what you mean. The trouble is there are a lot of groups on Facebook that I'm interested in [local history/sighthounds etc] and it seems to have replaced places like Friends Reunited. There's a page about my childhood home and I can't get onto it without the computer crashing sad.

The Sentimental Sarabande from Benjamin Britten's Simple Symphony - magic. www.youtube.com/watch?v=23s6SaMOlcg

I heard a small orchestra (The British Symphonia) play this in St David's cathedral in May - what a wonderful experience.

That's a shame Tegan.

Many years ago we were in park guell in Barcelona. There was a young man playing these drums. We bought his CD, wonderful.

Ana Fri 24-Jul-15 17:55:38

Loved both of those, granjura. Very calming, especially Yuki's performance.

I'm with Luckygirl and Sentimental Sarabande. Memories of grabbing a few minutes peace and quiet while the babies had an afternoon nap.

I discovered a beautiful piece of 'cello music on Youtube last year. It was the background music to a video clip I was interested in. I tried for ages to find out the composer and name of the piece, even sending the link to Classic FM who didn't have a clue. When I went back for another listen it had been removed for reasons of copyright sad

Why put something up if you don't want others to enjoy it?

merlotgran Fri 24-Jul-15 18:08:35

I can only assume that whoever posted it did so without permission.....Now I'll never know sad

granjura Fri 24-Jul-15 18:27:09

Ana, glad you like the Hang. Here is Daniel (who is from London/Sussex) playing with Flavio from Barcelona. They are coming to play here in just over 2 weeks' time and will be staying with us- so very exciting

Anyone love the music from the 50s era nat king Cole and the drifters are just 2 of my favorite but also the 50s rock n roll takes me back to a happy time and peps me up for the day but also doo wop music and there is plenty of that still being played on the radio and television adverts ect. sunshine

loopylou Fri 24-Jul-15 19:22:01

Verdi's Requiem, anything with plain chant, and Allegri's Misiere completely chill me out - so much so that I can't play them when I'm driving smile
