I have always thought that painting your house in a ghastly way is a very easy way to wind up neighbours.
I presume that it is perfectly legal?

How childish. I have to admit it made me giggle though .

The one person I know with a very bright pink house, also has walls inside of what I would consider ghastly colours too. I soon realised that she just has bad taste in general!

I can't help wondering whether local authorities shouldn't have some sort of regulation about what colours/patterns you can and cannot have your property painted. It might be your house, and I understand 'an Englishman's home is his castle' and so on, but that is all fine if you live in a field with no nearby neighbours to care one way or another if you paint the Union Flag on the front of your house.
But if a hideous paint job impacts on surrounding properties isn't that almost morally reprehensible?
Of course, there is always the argument about too much regulation and some authorities would likely be more restrictive than others. So it's probably not the answer.
I do feel sorry for the neighbours though (if one can feel sorry for anyone who can afford a £15 million house, that is )

That reminds me , not visually, of Greyson Perry and his house in Essex. I can't do links but I am sure most GN's know the building I mean.

Mind you I actually like Greysons designdesign very much and I would have no objection at looking at it all day long , I am obviously a woman of taste .

There is a house in Headington, Oxford, that has a huge shark(not real of course!) crash landing from space through the roof.This is in a terraced house in a built up area.it's been there for years, and the house owner is a presenter on Radio Oxford.

I love that Oxford shark house. It's a landmark. I rather like the red and white stripes too, mainly because of amusement at people's snootiness about Kensington and Chelsea that it seems to have provoked. Bit like outting a bit of Blackpool prom in Brighton.

What if the neighbours all got together and painted their houses in conflicting patterns - wiggly lines, crossword puzzle grids, noughts and crosses... Now that really would be something. If you can't beat 'em join'em.

Good Grief Definitely headache material. How do they get away with it. The London stripes are nothing by comparison....

In Chelsea it should have been blue and white stripes!

On that topic Willie Russel wrote a play ' Terraces' about football supporters painting houses. It was on TV years ago, I think it's on U tube. x
