Mother's Day and new extended families!

It's a funny old world, just when you think you can finally relax in your groove for all time, another curve ball comes your way.

I don't give a hoot about Mother's Day - to me every day is "family day"! My son's mother-in-law has only daughters and a huge fuss is made of Mother's Day, with expensive gifts. So the pressure is building and his wife is a "first time mother" this year too, I am suddenly feeling the pressure when I see "To Daughter-in-Law on Mother's Day" cards, and both my children think they have neglected me for 30 odd years! Sometimes I think the best Mother's Day gift would be a day when I am left completely in peace! confused smile

Rock gran what a good idea. I will use old birthday cards as sadly nothing has arrived in the post. If nothing ie flowers arrives tomorrow I will buy a decent bunch of reduced ones from the supermarket and pretendgrin

Great idea rockgran. I have a box of treasures that includes cards the children either made, or sent to me on special occasions. A journal would take up less space (an increasingly significant issue here)

Most of the cards (if not all of them) that I get from my children are usually art or nature cards "blank inside for own message" with exactly that written in. What more could I wish for.

Any 'special' cards (Christmas, birthday, Mothers' Day, etc) from 'special' people I keep, along with postcards I receive, tickets to shows, trips, airline tickets, photos, invitations, etc and other little bits of memorabilia I think worth keeping. I pin them all to a pin board in the kitchen.

Each NewYears Eve I take them all down, have a little trip down memory lane then put them into a shoe box and label it with the year. Then up to the attic it goes.
