Just had a Facetime with very energetic DGS and DS, they've spent the day at Kew and DGS is still full of beans. I've got withdrawal symptoms because haven't seen him since Christmas, so I must sort out a trip up on the train sometime soon. DDIL's taking him to see his Italian GPs soon, I don't envy her on the plane (or the other passengers!). Hopefully he'll sit still...........for more than 30 seconds.......

Ah! soop bliss............ I just knew I would get pampered when you arrived.

loopylou try a dose of London weather and you will be switching on the heating, it is perishing where I live. The sun is shining but there is no heat. Tara sat in the sun for 3 minutes but as it was too cold for her, indoors, a nibble of biscuits and then a 6 hour doze.

MacSporran is lucky to have help- I am sure that he appreciates it.

A painful shoulder definitely must be catching- I met for coffee last Tuesday with two local GNs and one has a frozen shoulder.

I hope that you all do your exercises- lifting a glass, preferably filled with wine or spirits, that is the correct weight and slowly raise to mouth. Repeat at least 15 times, even if that means a fill up. If like me you drink very little alcohol, a cup of coffee is ideal also but a fill up is not required as the ideal weight is achieved with the making of the first mugful. Please remember to fully extend the arm when placing the glass or mug on the table. Afterwards lie back and relax until the exercise needs to be repeated.

Charleygirl I'm about to tidy my so-called studio. After which I shall read the paper and enjoy a G&T ...that will count as my arm-lifting exercise for the day.

I've just this minute had a lovely long chat on the telephone with Bellasnana. She is a very cheerful and pleasant lady. As you know, she's to visit her sister very soon. Thankfully, her dear husband will have plenty of assistance during the journey. I'm very pleased that she hasn't had to cancel. Safe travels, Bella

soop, a relaxing massage and a rest looking at your beautiful view sounds good to me. Especially after over doing my excersises as suggested by Charleygirl. I've never been very good at exercises before.

soop I agree that it is great that Bella and DH will manage a trip. Speaking with you will have lifted her spirits no end.

It must be so relaxing watching the sea- I cannot complain, where I live in London it is very quiet- luckily we are not on the main Heathrow flight path, only Northolt occasionally, but these planes, although low are interesting to look at.

In my childhood days we lived about 3 miles from Leuchars in Fife and those planes were very noisy.

When I was at University, Charley, we got the full effect of Leuchars, just across the estuary from St Adrews. In those four years, I must have got used to the noise of aircraft taking off and landing. My Granny lived only a few miles from Leuchars (Newport) and we went there every summer. One big treat for me was when Princess Elizabeth (as she was then) came to Leuchars and they put on a show for her. We were lucky to be able to attend. The planes were, for me, a greater attraction than HRH.

I too felt the earth move (!) when those huge planes (Hurricanes?) flew over us to and from Leuchars. DH (also at St Andrews) told me he was used to it as he had been at school near Lossiemouth, and 50 years on I do wonder if his dodgy hearing might be a consequence!

Bellasnan I have just caught up with your comment on baby wipe warmers. Please do not let my Grandson hear about those.

anno and Soutra we lived outside Cupar, about a mile from Springfield in the middle of nowhere and I agree, the sound of the Hurricanes or whatever they were was amazing. Later my parents moved into Cupar and again we appeared to have our private display almost daily- not quite the Red Arrows but individually doing their loops. The noise was horrendous but I was so used to it by then that it did not bother me. I did not notice them when I was training in Dundee.

Years later, when I lived in Norfolk, I taught an English O-level class at a RAF base. The 'lads' were wonderful students and I don't remember having any failures. On evenings when a sudden exercise was called, I was sent off home but not before I heard the big V-bombers taking off one by one. They were adapted to be tankers used for refuelling other planes in the air and 'my lads' were mostly ground crew. When they went off to Ascension Island during the Falklands conflict, they sent their homework to me. In Norfolk, where there were several RAF and USAF bases, we frequently had low-flying jets over the house (scaring my ginger cat witless). This seemed to happen suspiciously often when the primary school had its prizegiving - outdoors. I knew some of the pilots were parents. Their idea of a joke?
Why am I rambling? I should be getting into the shower and writing a story (not in the shower) for today's writing group meeting. Gransnet is wonderful displacement activity.

Thank you anno I thoroughly enjoyed your post. I believe that the aircraft you refer to has flown low-ish over the Sound of Kintyre...just the once. By gum, it was a mighty powerful machine.

Charleygirl I seem to remember visiting Cupar a few years ago. It was delightful.

Soutra How is your husband? Do you have any hospital appointments coming up? MacSporran received a letter from the cardio/vascular surgeon almost three months ago. We're hopeful that he'll have an appointment some time soon.

dustyangel and other Kitcheners with a niggle in the joints, I hope that you are resting your shoulders and not overdoing household activities.

No Soop, no sign of him being able to come home yet. He still has t5he tracheotomy in place, he has to be able to breathe on his own for 24 hours before they`ll take it out, so far he`s managed 6 hours. He`s walked a couple of times, with the aid of a walking frame, from his bed to the reception desk, about 5 yards, and back again.
I`m joining the arm and shoulder brigade, with some neck thrown in for good measure.

Number you must be getting very fed up of the hospital visiting. I remember how tiring it was,

soop, while we were in Norfolk, the Dambusters Squadron transferred to the base where I taught, flying Tornadoes, very noisy planes indeed.

You`re right Galen, it`s hard to believe how tiring it is, rushing to get ready, then sitting by the bedside for a couple of hours, especially when the patient can`t talk, and he loses patience with people (almost everyone) who can`t lip read! I`ve had a day off from it today, no doubt I`ll be made to feel very guilty tomorrow! Thank you for the flowers xx

Anno it's very quiet here now that the americans have withdrawn. It's lovely. We do get a few learner british pilots using the skies, but once a week rather than once a day at least.

I'm so glad that bella's OH is well enough to make the journey, and that number's OH is making slow but steady progress.

My niece, who had all the brain operations and was due to have the hole in her skull/forehead filled in with a mesh in just over a week, is now having to go back in for other reasons, as a swelling has come up again in a different area around her eye. This doesn't bode well for her or her wedding, nor for her eyesight as they were astonished they managed to save her sight last time. I think they may have to cut out a larger part of her skull next time and she will definitely lose the optic nerve around which the tumour is growing, as well as into the bone. My poor sister is beside herself as she has also just acquired my nephew to nurse, after an emergency op for a strangulated hernia a couple of days ago. After only two days she is saying that the poor boy isn't getting well enough fast enough, but I think she is just too worried to think about more than one ill child at a time. Even when they are in their 20s.

So I am now back to receiving late night phone calls and being a shoulder. It's the least I can do but it's very tiring. There's no point in going to bed yet.

janer your poor sister, she must be beside herself! for you both.

Well, I was coming in for some tea and sympathy but have just read janerowena's post and feel so very sorry to hear what an ordeal her niece is going through. So hard for all the family as you feel helpless. I can only hope all will go as well as it can and that her nephew makes a speedy recovery.

Well, my own sorry tale does not compare but here goes. About now I should have been boarding the flight to Gatwick with DH to visit my poorly sister, but as it is, DH has had to go without me

Last evening, having procrastinated long enough about doing my packing, I was up the ladder retrieving my suitcase from the top cupboard when I fell off and landed hard on my back on the stone floor. I thought I was going to die as I couldn't breathe and it was a bit scary. The ambulance turned up very quickly but I then waited in A&E for absolutely ages until they finally gave me a pain-killing injection and took x-rays of my back, chest and elbow. Fortunately, nothing broken, but forbidden to travel and had to be brought home by ambulance as well.

So, who would have thought it? DH was the one we were concerned about and yet it is muggins here who will now have to wait until Sunday to join him.

Bella! I do hope your DH has had, by now, a good flight and is, perhaps, even now arriving safely at Gatwick. Please keep safe so as to be fit to join him at the weekend. ((((hugs))))
