It is sad but I can't believe how they used to 'waste' money, and never thought about supporting family in any way, let alone financially. Certainly we we were way below them and they made it very clear at every opportunity, even to the point of not visiting because 'you live on a council estate (we don't) and the car won't be safe'!!!

And she could always use the red wine for guests and friends (in the unlikely event she has any). There again you could always turn the tables, raise you eyebrows and query 'Really? You drink white wine with lamb and beef? How very bohemian!' ....there again, why sink to her level?

DD leaving for London today so house needs good clean and back to 'normality', the peace will seem strange.
Large batch of chocolate Brownies for you all, made too many after needed to use up big bar of expensive plain chocolate before I scoffed nibbled away at the lot of it, enjoy!
Christmas cake all gone too, hooray, no need to carry on eating it because I hated to waste it (poor excuse emoticon for being a pig]!

Chicken and chips Lona was because that was all DS, also ill, could fancy. Until now I have been living a boiled potato and broccoli! With the odd bit of toast and honey.

Much better today, apart from hacking cough and being bunged up. I do so love this time of year.

Brenda that's awful. I bought the full range of phone book, notepad and wallet from Liberty 25 years ago and in no way would I ever mistake them for plastic, and I know how expensive they are. Mine are still going strong now, they are of excellent quality, so I know your taste is as impeccable as mine! Just you feel sorry for your sad sister. I do.

Oh and my cheque book cover. Can you imagine, something that still gets used and abused after all these years still looking almost new after all that time?

Oh dear me...^you lot^ make me chuckle out loud. Brenda if there is one trait that I really cannot do with, it's snobbery. Your sister needs a personality transplant. I would certainly stress that, in future, rather than spend money on "stuff" that may not be needed/appreciated, I have decided to send the proceeds to buy a goat for a needy/deserving African family.

There are lots of messages to read. I shall do so properly. I'm about to add a photo of the outfit (purchased on ebay) for a song, that I wore last night to the party. A few people commented on the colour...one that I have hardly ever worn before. Now I'm thinking, should I use this jacket for my granddaughter's wedding in the spring. What do you think?

The party was marvellous. Three, close male pals all celebrating their 75th birthdays. They are all such good fun and the party carried on until midnight. I had a few glasses of Champagne and three drams of 56% proof special edition malt whisky. The birthday boy insisted that we share his gift. Seemed churlish to refuse. The buffet was delicious. I'm afraid that my diet of one day sank without trace. From hereon I shall do better. No headache...no nasty aftermath so all in all it was a highly delightful and entertaining evening.

That party sounds wonderful. I love the idea of the goat present, but I think I would announce that I had been able to name the goat after her as well.

Soop I love your outfit! I am a big fan of greens especially of the lime range and I think you look spiffing. (There's a good old Enid Blyton word for you!). It would certainly look well for the wedding. What does MacS think? You do seem to spot some real bargains on e-bay.

I shall probably wait until the end of winter (when I may be a little lighter) and then, if you'll permit me, I shall try on the different permutations and ask your advice. Crafting The jacket is Betty Jackson. It was hanging unworn in a lady's wardrobe (tags intact) I was the only bidder! I "won it" for a very modest amount.

I'm about to post a photo that our pal took of us at Xmas. Before I do, I need to put it into Paint and resize it. Otherwise, the GN album will not upload it. Back very shortly.

I've done it. Although the image is a little blurred I like it a lot. We were about to perform a waltz...

Just had sister on the phone blathering on about her presents. I had sent an email to her husband saying notepad was leather and sorry about the wine. She went on and on about the fact she still thinks it's plastic as it hasn't got a leather smell. Dam glad I was out and it was a message. I give up. She is one of those people who insults everyone but heaven help anyone who says anything to her.

Is it time to go phone her and go into a strop that she should think you would stoop to buying her plastic and claiming it is leather? Tell her you certainly paid leather prices for it and to test an unobtrusive corner of it by putting a match to it - if it melts it is plastic, if it scorches and gives off an unholy smell of burnt hair, it is leather.

By then she may have destroyed it, but perhaps she will be satisfied. You could add that she had better make the most of it, because it is the last present you will be buying for her.

Brenda What an incredibly rude and irritating sister. I've never heard of such a thing in all my years. I'm lost for words. Walk away...it really isn't worth you getting into a strop. If you must make a comment, then I would say be frank and express your dismay...then walk away. I'm getting myself into a tiz-woz

What's more, I would not even entertain the idea of giving her anything in future. Bah!

and another thought, Brenda any person who is given a gift (no matter how humble) should be gracious enough to be grateful. I'm spitting tacks.

soop The lime jacket is very smart, and looks slightly heavier than the multi coloured one, so when is the wedding? Maybe see what the weather is like before deciding?

Nothing offends me, Lona. I would agree totally, chicken and chips is a horrific diet. We normally only have chips about 4 times a year! But DS is a student and must be finding our healthy eating a great strain after months of '3am kebab being the best kebab' (as posted on facebook...)

I like the jacket, it suits you. I had a similar one once with a matching skirt, but often wore it with a black velvet pencil skirt, or black circular linen skirt and camisole in the summer.

It's a wonderfully blustery day in bonnie Kintyre. As the forecast is rather grim for Friday, we've been into Campbeltown for the Tesco shop today. I've added a photo of the lively sea. Also one of a very hard-done-by cat who goes by the name of Rory.

Thank you for yet more comments regarding the choice of jacket for the end of May wedding. I shall keep my word and photograph the various outfits (with accessories) for you lot to give an honest opinion on. Wish you lived nearer. I would have you all call by for proper afternoon of what's what and what's not... I just love the business of pulling an outfit together. I did tell my late father that I wanted to be a dress designer...I was six at the time!

Lona the lime jacket is beautifully made and lined in silk. It isn't heavy and drapes becomingly. The multi-coloured jacket is pure silk and, I believe, a "one off" - I discovered it lurking in the vintage clothing section on ebay.
