Christmas bling for the home?

Bring Christmas on, really cannot wait to decorate and to get into the festive mood .

I have started watching Christmas movies on Channel 428, brilliant!!

I've noticed Channel 5 is showing Christmas films for most of Saturday recently. What on earth are they going to put on when it really is Christmas?

Daughters, sil and grandchildren arriving from UK on 24th - so will decorate a few days earlier, but bring the tree in on 23rd- as we use real candles on the tree so it has to be fresh. The candles will be lit after Christmas lunch when we will open presents- as per our family tradition- although grandkids will have 'Santa's' presents in the morning.

The tree candles will be lit again on Boxing day - and then, that's it - I think they are all going back on 2nd or 3rd of Jan- and all the decorations will come down then.

ANA , It does not bother me , I am getting in to the festive mood already, When Christmas actually arrives there will be so much going on I certainly won"t have any time for movies

My ds has invited my dd and her girls and me, to Christmas dinner! It will be the first one together for 23 years!!!!!

One of our local garden centres is offering "rent a Christmas tree". For £25, plus a returnable £25 deposit you can rent a growing tree. Can't make my mind up whether this is a good idea or not. I've had a growing tree for the last three years but it did suffer through this summer when I forgot to water it, so it's not looking its best this Christmas

I have been to the Metro Centre for a contact lens appointment and I have come away feeling all Christmasy the first time this year, the decorations are gorgeous.

But not a bush to be seen!!!

Lona how thrilled you must be. "All things come to those who wait" I hope it comes to pass and you have a wonderful time especially the anticipation which to me is the essence of Christmas.

Yes, it is exciting, although dd may have to work, but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting much brighter!

If you wait to decorate the house and tree until almost Christmas Eve, it gives you too much to do too close to Christmas, on the other hand I have seen outside lights blazing with Santas by the end of this month, which is ridiculous. I usually do it all by the 16th/17th Dec.then sit back and relax a bit before the mayhem of Christmas Day [ we are always the hosts and there will be mince pies and small grandchildren trodden underfoot all day long.]
A pub near us is advertising Christmas lunches up to the 20th Dec, and say that after that date 'it's too close to Christmas for a Christmas menu'.

Agus You have given us all an excuse to be childish and gleeful with all the bush references, indeed, I feel I cannot now see a Christmassy lit up bush without grinning.So your phraseology was well worth it.All I can say is,when I see one, it won't be my own!

Further to the Christmas bling for the home....... will you personally be dressed up [for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day etc.]Friends of ours always wear matching Christmas jumpers in a Howard and Hilda sort of way [but ironic] and another friend always wears novelty ear-rings[ it sounds awful, but she can carry it off somehow.]We usually go out with friends on Christmas Eve, so I would wear something like black velvet trousers, heeled ankle boots and a pretty top, but on Christmas Day with so much to do, I need to feel comfortable,so don't worry too much.I do dress up for New Years Eve though, as there is usually a party.

I did it in the past - and was thinking of doing I again this year, but I always wear my big earrings, not sold as Christmas earrings but the centre is a big green ball with a spiral of gold-covered wire surrounding it like moon orbits round a planet.

I do, however have a magnificent Christmas apron made for me a few years ago with a huge Christmas tree appliqued on it from bib top to bottom hem, with glittery Christmas tree decoration embroidered on it. I wear that for most of Christmas day and Boxing day as it is so decorative.

Agus be very careful not to electrocute yourself. Choose some nice bulbs that compliment your colouring. Had you thought of floodlighting it from underneath to show it off to its best advantage?

Having given the floodlighting some consideration [Crafting], my concern would be attracting too many admirers.

Very wise, Agus. The last thing you want at Christmas is a congregation of kerb-crawlers around your bush!

I had a huge bush which I grew from being tiny at my old house and now we're in our new home I have a small bush again which will be illuminated.

My tree maybe the one I used as a real fir two years ago and have kept in my garden since, bare branches now but I will spray it and bring it back in for decorating.

The calendar idea is a good one

No problem Agus it has been loads of fun! And anyway, hijacked threads are often the best ones.If you have a good sized bush, you may as well flaunt it! [But sadly, I haven't.]

... But would the illuminations attract moths? - or midges?
