Birthday celebrations

Spent my 60th the local A&E with agonising pains from gall stones ,my husband called the ambulance and believe it or not I felt I should change into clean PJs so he fetched some. It was only when I was being examined that I realised I had non matching tops and bottoms on!Took my mind off the pain anyway.

I had a family picnic on the beautiful Isle of Man on my 50th and we all went on the mountain railway to the top of Snaefell, including my parents, aged 85 and 81. We then had a picnic lunch at Laxey after which some of us took the littlies on an adventure (or "benture" as the youngest called it) and actually walked across the bottom of Laxey harbour. The tide was out I hasten to add. It was a memorable day - lovely weather, the company of my family and just a happy, happy day. Lots gone wrong since with the passing of my parents and sister in law and the break up of one branch of the family but still a super day.

I am trying to plan something equally memorable for our Golden Wedding next July and scratching my head as to what to do.

50th was on my boat in Alsace Lorraine. 60th was memorable, in a Hospital in Shanghai with food poisoning.

60th the family arranged a surprise party and then DH took me round Italy and we came home on the Orient Express. Don't think they will be able to top that!

Had a lovely meal with all the family for my 60th and a week later got married|

I had a big party for my 50th for 100+ plus people with live music and my husband sang me a love song ('have I told you lately that I love you') and brought me (and even my hard boiled mother) to tears. The catering was hard work, but it was worth it.
For my 60th we were on holiday in Lesvos and went on a champagne 'sunset cruise' around the bay - it was magical.

nonnasusie I guess moving to Italy at 60 was a bit special too.

We were on a cruise and we sailed into Venice on my 50th..perfect!!

Had a surprise party thrown for my 40th and hated it, so decided to avoid everyone this time.

DH spent his 50th at Mount Everest Base Camp...

For my fiftieth we had a huge picnic at Kenwood on the night of a concert and invited all family and friends. For my 60th my daughter arranged a ladies only dinner at a good restaurant in the country. I got swine flu and we had to cancel it. I was so ill I didn't even care!

For my 50th, we were invited to tea at our daughter number 3`s house, when we got there, all our children, partners and grandchildren were there.

For my 60th, a house party for about 60. Thank goodness it was mid summer and we put up 3 cheap canopies in case of any light rain. My first ever real birthday party.

For DH 60th (he is younger than me) the boys/stepsons organised renting a National Trust House with big kitchen like Downton. Music Room, all victorian, 2 sets of stairs. Out-house had a hot tub and sauna, robes .... the works. Big yard which was great for two DGC and their bicycles. We were there for 4 days. Asda food delivery all organised by the family. It was 40 miles from home and we went in a convoy of 4 cars. One son and wife came home from England for the event. Ten of us altogether.

Unfortunately !!!! it was a surprise and hubby didn't take well to the surprise. Didn't know where he was going and assumed it was a hotel. We just followed the other cars. (I knew where we were going ) As we drove his face was like a poisoned lemon, and he muttered about not knowing where he was going, did he have the right stuff with him... etc. etc. just him and me in our car. We never fall out..... by the time first car pulled in for coffee, him and me were at it hammer and tong. I told him he was ungrateful etc. etc. Kids stood outside in disbelief. Then eldest boy opened car door and said... Right da... you-me-coffee-now !!! We got out of car, DH said he didn't want coffee (like a child)... I told him to go get coffee because he wasn't coming with me (also like a child) DDiL says to DS..... I told you he'd not take well to a surprise.....

Of course, all was fabulous. DH did not like being out of control and once he settled himself you'd have thought it was all his idea.

I have to say it reminded me a teensy-weensy bit In ways ,of someone I have been married to for 43 years !!!

50th in Vegas, 60th in Sidney, looking forward to 70th don't know where yet. A few years to go yet! X

As I don't like fuss I just took my dog for a walk with my current partner.
I had received pressies in the morning gone to work and just went out with dog it was nicer than a big fuss

I can beat that silverfish. If our house comes through we are hoping to move into, I want to celebrate mine in B & Q cafe!

Although my dream would be what nonnie did and go on the Orient Express, or for my 60th, like nonnasusie, get married. Since there is no man in tow just now, I'd better get my skates on! lol

For my 60th I stayed on at school.for Y 11 parents' evening. I got home just before 10 I think.

For my 50th DH took me to the south of France for a long weekend. For my 60th he took ten of us to the Lake District for a weekend in a super hotel.

Is it just me that thinks like this?

DSs, their partners and my senior GD organised a big afternoon party for my 70th, in a community hall close to their homes. Old friends from work and university as well as relatives and in-laws (still friends despite my divorce). We had a bagpiper and a magician. The GC had a fine time officiating at the bar - even the 3-year-old! DS1, formerly a chef, did most of the catering.
When I was 50, I had a big party at home and the boys, then teenagers, organised the cake. At 60, I'd just moved house and was far too tired to do anything but have a few friends round for drinks.

It is my 60th today.

Several friends have called in this morning.

I am out with DD3 for the afternoon. Haven't been told where.

This evening we are out for a family meal and on Saturday all the family are off to the ' Battle Proms' at Hatfield house. Picnic supplied by DDs.

Also have an afternoon tea arranged for another day to include all my friends.

Big parties are not really my 'thing' but I will love all these smaller events.

I am feeling very loved today.

For DH's milestone birthdays we always have a family 'bash' in our garden with some sort of catering. We do the same for our 'big' anniversaries.

I've never had a birthday 'bash'. My birthday is January 5th and, each time, there have been either snow drifts, everyone has had flu or someone has died.
