Family photographs - do you display them?

I don't know whether I'm simply unsentimental or what - but I go to friend's and acquaintance's homes and often one whole wall will be covered in family photos, or there will be a dozen smaller frames displayed on a table or sideboard. I have about 3 in my whole house - completely random. One of my MIL before she got ill (Alzheimer's), one of my son and his wife on their wedding day, and one of my daughter when she was about 3 years old. That's it!

I do have a few! In the front room I have a shelf with pics of parents/grandparents/nephews/ our kids etc. These are small black and white photos in 'silver'frames. About a dozen of them. I also have 2 small (half postcard size) photos of each DD with their partners on a windowsill.
In the kitchen I have two wall pics of DGSs and DGDs In the back room I have a pic of each DGC on their 1st birthday and then random pics in frames on the bookshelves ! In our bedroom we have a multi picture frame with pics/invite and order of service from our wedding that DDs put together for our ruby wedding anniversary! I am not a sentimental person.

Oops I've messed up the apostrophes. I blame the Kindle <hides in shame>.

I love to display family photos but I tend to change them for more recent ones. You can only have so many.....hmm

This topic has reminded me that I have not put back the few photos on my bookshelves from Christmas! I always put them away to make room for the Christmas cards, and have forgotten to replace them! Mine are mostly grandparents and mum, who have all passed away, and a family wedding one.

They are all over the house, because the DC keep giving me more as presents (in frames) and I don't like to put them away.

It's beginning to look like an old granny's house.

This is an interesting topic for me. I got reprimanded by by Daughter because I don't have any photographs of her/her sisters/my grandchildren around the house. I don't know why this is, but I have all the images of them I want to in my head. I really just don't 'do' photos…I prefer paintings

We just have our childrens` wedding photos, and several pics of the grandchildren, changed when new photos come along, or we`d need a new house to put them all up! There`s also a digital photo frame with all sorts on it, changes all the time, there are over 200 photos on there, I change a few about once a year.

All those frames......We're seriously de-cluttering and I'll be dropping off a box full of photo frames at EMMAUS next week. The photos are safe in a album old shoe box but how ever much money do we waste on frames??

On my bookshelf I have two photo's of GS1 and one taken when DD received her PhD. DD's one does include DH and me, SiL and DS so it's a good one to have out.
SiL, being American, thinks we're really odd, apparently they have family photo's all over the house in the US. He and DD have lots of studio photo's of GS1 on the walls, but so far there have been none of GS2 - they don't seem to have time to hang round photographer's studios with two of them grin

I have a composite photo of dgd1 one each of darling daughter and ds. One of me and my late DH and a wedding day photo (see wedding dresses ) and a couple of others

I have six family photos in the lounge and one of those multi pic frames on the landing.
One of the frames in the lounge is a 21st birthday studio pic of MiL. Another is my paternal grandmother's wedding. I love old photos.

I have a picture of GC as toddler and baby on the music room wall and all their baby photos in frames on the piano. On hi-fi cabinet I have DD's graduation photo and school photos of GC. I also have a digital photo frame but I only have it operating infrequently.
In the lounge I have a large family portrait on the wall and framed photos of DH and I at the palace.

We have just a few framed ones of the children's weddings and the grandchildren. The rest I just print out and put on the fridge to enjoy, then change them as new ones appear.

Grannyknot Sat 28-Jun-14 06:32:37

Mamie that's me too, I do exactly that.

The framed wedding photo I have displayed of my son and his wife is the thank you card they sent out. Well, it was printed on good quality paper and you'd never know grin

Digital photo frame is what you need - you load photos onto a card, feed it into the frame and the photos will change on a rolling cycle.

rosequartz Sat 28-Jun-14 10:21:46

Yes, I have one of those as well, Mishap.

We have one, annual, full family photo (now that takes some organising for all 14 - it's usually a matter of seizing the opportunity!) and it is framed and in the living room. That is all. Framed photos of DC (graduation, weddings etc) are hanging in the children's rooms, so they can look at them.

I don't like the cluttered feel of too many family photos - happy to have some on the notice board in the kitchen, though.

janerowena Sat 28-Jun-14 12:06:06

I just have a few up. I have managed to get away with it though because we have a big sitting-room and this computer is set up at one end. When it isn't in use, I have set it up to become a slideshow for all the best family and friend photos, which keeps my daughter and a photo-loving friend happy. The friend used to say that my house looked bare without photos - that's because every square inch of hers is covered in them.

glammanana Sat 28-Jun-14 12:08:48

With now living in a smaller apartment we have stored many photographs away or passed on to DCs just have now photograph of all DGCs as a group taken this last year and two small black and white of mum and dad from yrs ago.Others are on a small wall in dressing room fondly known as rogues gallery.

When my DH died I went through all our photo albums and picked out photos we had taken on our travels and I have these scattered around the house.

When I was last in Australia my nephew put a bunch of photos of my OZ family on a digital photo frame.

I like to have photos of DH around because I find when visitors spot one they haven't seen before it starts a conversation about him - and I like that.

I feel guilty sometimes as one of my friends has them everywhere. And I mean everywhere. Hall, stairs, lounge, bedrooms, dining room, conservatory.

Marelli Sat 28-Jun-14 16:35:38

I have a few, but just little ones, and not on the wall. They just stand about here and there.

ayse Sat 28-Jun-14 19:50:24

I decided to put some family photos in my bedroom together with a couple of pencil drawings of my parents. It works well for me so I reckon everyone is just different.

kittylester Sat 28-Jun-14 19:56:19

I have a small table I the lounge where I have one of every dgc ( changed soft of annually). Some of the children, a family one at our 40 wedding anniversary! One the mantle piece there is one of DH and i on our wedding day.

Any others are on the notice board and moved when something else comes.
