Puff the Magic Dragon makes me cry

The lyrics of Puff the Magic Dragon reduce me to tears. I only have to think about them and the tears start to well up. What's wrong with me?

A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant's rings make way for other toys
One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane
Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave
So Puff, that mighty dragon, sadly slipped into his cave

As I understand it, it's not about death, but simply about childhood coming to an end when Jackie Paper grows up. Despite that, it produces strong emotions that are akin to bereavement in me.
Strange, especially as I'm not usually an over-emotional sort of person.

Actually, I feel a little better having just discovered that it has exactly the same effect on DiL.
Are we alone?

What's that Abba song which begins, "schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning, that always makes me weep. Sunrise, sunset does it for me too. I phoned my pen pal who was visiting from NZ. I was in Cumbria, she was in London. The phone box needed 4d. It was handy being just opposite our house. We never got to meet. I wonder where she is now. I've no idea how to find out.

Who mentioned Morningtown Ride by the Seekers I haven't been able to get it out of my head since I read about it on here! Found it on Youtube, played it and sang it to DGD2 but not sure how impressed she was - she asked if we could look for Frozen on the computer please when I finished.

Yes, don't they just love the songs from Frozen...(my GDs even do the speaking bits as well). I haven't seen the film and don't really think I'll ever want to now! grin

Actually I enjoyed it very much when I went with DGD1 and her other Granny.
