So what are you going to do in the evenings while the football is on>

I intend to make all my Christmas cards & save the last minute panic that usually ensues, take a long walk when the weather is fine & sit in the garden with several glasses of wine & some good books.
Actually I find it very liberating not to have to look at TV listings to see if there is anything I want to see on each day.
Usually DH is complaining that I ' am always out these days' (blame the WI!!)but he won't notice for the next 4 weeks.
Mind you there is the rugby on Saturday morning-now that I will be watching!!!

Haven't got a TV, so in a lot of ways it won't affect me, but I'm sure the papers will be covering every little dribble, accompanied by close ups of the ever attending, adoring WAGS hmm perhaps I will cancel the paper and try walking around with a pair of dark glasses and ear muffs on for the next couple of weeks (then it'll be tennis, which I equally loath!)

petallus Thu 12-Jun-14 19:11:29

I will leave DH to the big screen downstairs and go upstairs to watch the small tv or read or listen to my relaxation aps or go online (Gransnet mostly) or catch up on emails I have to write.

I shall watch the final match if England is in it.

rosesarered Thu 12-Jun-14 19:45:41

Much the same as Petallus for me.

rosesarered Thu 12-Jun-14 19:46:40

whilst eating a Twix or two and pouring myself a glass of cold white wine.

rosesarered Thu 12-Jun-14 19:47:31

You wouldn't think the 2 things would go together would you? But they do.

merlotgran Thu 12-Jun-14 20:00:21

OOOh rosesared Twix and cold white wine is a match made in heaven.

I also like red wine and liquorice.

rosesarered Thu 12-Jun-14 20:10:57

Ah merlot haven't tried that, but now will.I can imagine they go together well though. Another great combo is bitter shandy and cheese and onion crisps, in fact DH likes that , he may be watching footy and having exactly that [he does like a bit of expensive pork pie as well.]But then, dont we all? At the moment he is watching cricket and eating a bowl of cornflakes.

As I hate football as much as I hate tennis, I will be working extra hours, reading (going to the library tomorrow to stock up), playing with my DGD or watching Peppa pig, gardening or maybe throwing my tv out of the window as I rarely watch it anyway.

Peppa pig is much more fun than any kind of sport.

tiggypiro Thu 12-Jun-14 20:53:39

I shall be bathing boys and reading bedtime stories and then when they are in bed I shall lie down in a darkened room. I live on my own but on Monday DD arrives from Beijing with 2 x DGS for 9 weeks and the following Monday DS and DiL + 3 x DGS arrive for one week. It will be lovely but I can feel the exhaustion already !
I have absolutely no interest in football.

janerowena Thu 12-Jun-14 20:58:28

Peppa pig is very funny.

I find myself hoping that England will be out of the running early on, during every world cup, so that some semblance of a normal life will return to our house. He does watch some other games once they are out, but our social life continues as normal as long as England isn't playing.

The best time to go out anywhere is during an England game. The UK is deserted, it's wonderful. Get to the beach if you can.

Riverwalk Thu 12-Jun-14 21:02:22

I shall be watching the football! smile

Ana Thu 12-Jun-14 21:03:37

Yes, I've noticed that janerowena - and you can actually get a parking space!

(Peppa Pig is wonderful! I love Daddy Pig especially)

HollyDaze Thu 12-Jun-14 21:17:25

I only watch the games that England are playing in so that should be good for about 2 weeks grin

Ana Thu 12-Jun-14 21:21:21

That long...? hmm

HollyDaze Thu 12-Jun-14 21:39:20

I'm being hopeful grin

Deedaa Thu 12-Jun-14 21:44:26

I shall be watching all Italy's games and hoping they win again!

sunseeker Thu 12-Jun-14 21:51:12

I have downloaded lots of books to my Kindle and I also have the box set of all 8 seasons of 24 to watch - sorted!

JessM Thu 12-Jun-14 21:54:25

watching The West Wing series one, which I did not see before. Blurry but good.

ninathenana Thu 12-Jun-14 22:06:29

DH is not interested, thank heavens. So watching any other channel.

GrandmaH Thu 12-Jun-14 22:10:03

I went shopping during the last WC final- actually I think England were playing. I expected an empty shopping centre but it was really busy & not all women either. I was quite disappointed.
I'm not sports averse-I do like cricket & tennis- well Rafa anyway- can't be bothered with women's tennis or Andy Murray & I am rugby mad- just love it! Watch it any opportunity I get- I even have a season ticket at London Wasps. I just find football & motor sport unbelievably boring.

annodomini Thu 12-Jun-14 22:40:33

Jess - one of the best series ever! I think I shall put that on my wish list together with boxed sets of Six Feet Under and Northern Exposure... I must start working on my family soon.

janerowena Thu 12-Jun-14 23:15:09

Northern Exposure - I keep meaning to get hold of that set.

Ana Thu 12-Jun-14 23:21:45

Oh, janerowena I loved that!! I didn't know anyone else had even heard of it...(and anno, sorry - got a bit carried away there). Thanks for reminding me - must get the box set.
