There was a lovely programme on BBC2 tonight about an Australian zoo keeper who was hand-raising tiger cubs in his own home, having played midwife to their mother. To be continued tomorrow. It's a good antidote to football. BBC 2 and 4 are football free zones as is Channel 4.

Well, I'm missing out there. When the footie's on OH only notices me if I walk in front of the screen.

According to the "AreYou" thread we are all having orgasmic unprotected sex and so have no time for football.

We could turn off our tvs etc. granjura (I won't be watching any matches anyway), but you'll never persuade the hard-core footie fans to do the same - our gesture would mean nothing to the sponsors.

We don't seem to have anything like as many car/garden/window flags round here this time. They were everywhere last time. Perhaps everyone feels it's best to ease off with the pressure. (Not that it's worked so far )

I don't care what men wear- but I do care about the hipocrisy to go on and complain about the huge pay checks, massive corruption- the extreme poverty of Brasil and the expulsion and destruction of their communities to make space for stadiums and the massive sums of money spent on stadiums- some of which will be used a few times and never again....

and then buy the WCup goods, kits, etc- go there and watch the games on TV.

All this corruption will never stop if we aid and abet. I wish we would all switch off our TVs- low ratings will soon afffect sponsors and get the message across.

All this talk of the Isle of Man prompted me to look for a boy I knew who was in our gang after school, when the two grammars used to meet up despite the teachers enforcing different departure times. He was incredibly good-looking, although not my type, too short, but he was a good friend and I missed him when his family moved away. So I just googled him and found him! No longer a Donny Osmond-alike, in fact I would never have recognised him. His family of five brothers moved away when he was 16 for a new farm and left many a Tun Wells girl's heart broken!

There's nothing to stop me from flying the St George's cross flag but part of me would feel it is disrespectful to the Manx to fly another flag on their soil (so to speak).

Why would you not fly the England flag where you live, you are still British, Holly or am I showing my ignorance- only got a 'C' in O level geography.

No problem Silverfish, I suppose to a non-fan of football it would seem sad but they must see something in it! I enjoy the World Cup but I wouldn't take to wearing an England kit (if I didn't live here, I might be tempted to fly the England flag though)

I once asked someone who knew a lot about football who was the best player at the time and was surprised when she said Thierry Henry. I did get to see him at St James Park once but it wasn't a very good game. I'm asking the guys on my racing forum which players to watch out for so that when I'm watching each match I know at least one player. I wish I understood the rules better; having siad that the friend that I asked about best player said I probably enjoy it more not knowing the rules. At least I get a feel for a match and know if I'm watching something special. Trouble is, like a lot of sport you have to watch a lot of rubbish to see the good bits, but even Wimbledon is like that, the best games often being earlier on in the tournament and quite unexpected. The ITV coverage of the Australia game wasn't too bad last night although the pundits in the studio didn't speak very good English [and that included the English ones ].

Silverfish - that behaviour happens the world over in countries that love their football. In Spain, you'll find even the police are standing outside the cafes watching the football

It's just symbolic support and loyalty I suppose.

Can anyone tell me why the men in our local supermarket are all wearing England shirts. I can understand they are supporters but how on earth can it make a difference to the players who cant see what anyone is wearing, the same with flags in windows etc. Also as I've asked before why do men wear their supporters shirts to watch the match on t.v. ???

I will never understand male intelligence.

I have been recording favourite films for a year so I have something to watch. But I usually find myself on the internet in the garden listening to the neighbours watching the game.

My GD1 will be glued to the summaries if Thierry Henry is involved. She became an Arsenal supporter just for him! And she's a Manchester girl!

I find it hard to watch the games on ITV because the pundits are just rubbish but the team in the BBC studio is brilliant and the commentary both interesting and funny.

Mind you, just turned over to BBC one for the news and Tierri Henri is part of the team in the studio however her spells himself. That accent !!!

The same as usual, reading and crafting. Hopefully enjoying the garden at the same time. I don't watch that much tv. and certainly not sports of any kind.
