I notice I seem to be the only person on here at 5.30am. Are you all good sleepers? I quite enjoy Gransnet for having a bit of a rant in the night. Going back to sleep now. G'night!

Well Sunday night I had approx 2 hours sleep, Mon night had none, last night not any at all. Don't know how I'm getting through the days at work. Today I am minute taking at a mtg 2-4pm. Think I'm going to see if I can buy something herbal today after work any ideas, fellow insomnia a?. OH out tonight, so light dinner, bath then bed. Don't care if I only get 8 til 12. All emotional issues. I read a book, start to nod off, so book down, light off and head on pillow, voila head busy again !!!

I find Nytol one a night helps if taken occasionally. Not the herbal one though. Strangely enough I also find that Piriton also helps.

I keep myself awake until 1am then switch off light and decide what I would do with a big Euro lottery win. This sometimes gives me a clear 5 hours sleep. Perhaps self hypnosis would help you LibraChick

Good luck for the meeting - sorry, forgot to say.

Went to bed early because I'm on the 5.2 diet. Now I'm awake and ready to eat! I don't want to start this early or I'll need a second breakfast - like Bilbo Baggins.

Went to bed at 12 after a fair few beers slept till 5 got up at 6. Good for me it's not the getting asleep(unless I'm really stressed or upset) it's the staying asleep or going back to sleep if I wake.

kiora I am not preaching but alcohol really messes with your sleep patterns . As I have always found by experience and it is a fact.

Also the effects of Caffeine are bad. I have recently switched back to decaf tea in the afternoon onwards. I don't touch coffee anyway, and I am sure I am sleeping better.

Don't worry it's a very rare occurrence. I wish I could drink more I really like alcohol and have a garage full but my tolerance has almost diminished. I probably drink less in a year than most people do in a month. Unfortunately.

Last night my "restless leg" kept twitching until about 2am. So with great effort I did the exercise which seems to help:
Lie on back, raise knees to chest, straighten legs up, lower slowly. 3 lots of 20 times at least. I fell asleep after that until 7am - not bad.

If it is any consolation to you insomniacs out there apart from an hour or so when I should have been watching 'The Bridge' on TV last night I went off at 0110 and awake at 0315 and that was with the help of 7.5mg Zopiclone and 30mg Mirtazapine. I just sat up and read until daylight. I don't feel tired but do feel weary, anxious and a little panicked. Incidentally I did not go to bed at all on Friday night but I think dozed a bit on the sofa. I am amazed at how little sleep we do survive with but wheather it is good in the long term remains to be seen.

Ps how awful. I'd never get through the day at work. I can manage for a few days but eventually I'd be in a real state. For me lack of sleep really impacts on my emotional well being. My normal sleep pattern is go to bed as late as possible around 11.30 then I might be up anytime between 3-6. There are times when it's much much less but that's not the norm and occasionally I can sleep to 7-8 but that's very very rare.

Kiora I must add that I hope this is a temporary condition, I have survived on 2 to 4 hours for over a year now whereas prior to that I slept like a log (never awake in a fireplace however). I do somehow manage a full time job now, was part time for a long time as I am retired, but we get there somehow.

Kiora Sun 12-Jan-14 11:10:46

Fingers crossed it is temporary ps

Insomniacs, have you listened to this? www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrYGSlEmt_I

Wow ps- I am so sorry to hear you are having such trouble.

But I find it incredible that any doctor would prescribe Zopiclone AND Mirtazapine AT THE SAME TIME- both strong hypnotics. Hope you are being well supervised by your doctor. Good luck.
