I notice I seem to be the only person on here at 5.30am. Are you all good sleepers? I quite enjoy Gransnet for having a bit of a rant in the night. Going back to sleep now. G'night!

Well the trashy book worked. Just woken up.

LizG Tue 24-Dec-13 13:55:16

I managed to drop off at 4am and woke at 7.30 with the alarm so could have been worse.

The way this thread's going it will be trendy to have a rendezvous on Gransnet in the middle of the night - then we won't be bothered about not sleeping through hmm - perhaps the best way?
Having said that, last night I only woke up once, no twitchy leg.

My insomnia started about two years ago after getting jet lag on a visit to family in America. I listen to story tapes on a little walkman, but as I can't get new one I nearly know them off by heart. Sometimes I get to sleep straight away, then perhaps about half an hour passes then ping! and it is all systems go again. Next about 3am I'm hungry and eat my banana, or a bowl of krispies. (Then have to clean teeth again) Usually manage to drop off for my 3hours. I was prescribed some antehystermine (can't spell it) the Doc said it may make you sleepy and I said yhipee- it didn't. Two nights ago I ended us in my grand daughter's bunk bed (she'd been visiting for a few days) and slept all night til six, then sat up and banged my head! I couldn't believe it. The radio in nice classic FM, a book is good but my eyes get tired. Sorry to ramble on, but if you are awake and need something to read...... It is nice to find like minded souls on Gransnet. (Usually i sleep in the spare room, nice and comfy and cosy DH sleeps like a log). It makes no difference. Happy Christmas everyone.

Good night all and best wishes for a good sleep and a Happy Christmas. Here's hoping we don't speak again till daybreak tchhmm

Bellasnana Wed 25-Dec-13 03:38:30

Where is everyone? I've been awake worrying about DD1 driving for five hours by herself from NW Florida to DD2 and family in Georgia. Just heard she arrived and have seen photos on Facebook of both DD's and DGD so can heave a sigh of relief. Merry Christmas to everyone. tchsmile

Enviousamerican Wed 25-Dec-13 04:13:15

Hope everyone is asleep in their warm beds! I'll be sleeping when you are opening presents,so enjoy your Christmas! tchsmile

Versavisa Wed 25-Dec-13 04:19:54

Just found this thread so thank you all. I always feel I'm the only one awake at this time of the night so it's good to know there are other people who are also wishing they could have just turned over and gone back to sleep. I don't think of GN in the night for some reason but I will now!

Merry Christmas.

I have been asleep but up again for a wee walk. Wind has died down and there is a moonlit, starry sky. The forecast was for rain, sleet and snow overnight but no sign of that. Santa has been and left five red sacks (which look remarkably like the bright red pillow cases that you get in ASDA) of presents and two filled stockings all ready for DD1 and DGS + DGD2 in the morning. Oh and there is another sack in the back bedroom ready for DGD1 when she comes home on Friday. Someone has been very busy tchgrin DD2, SIL and DGD1 arrived safely in Yorkshire this afternoon which is a relief.

Better try back to bed as there will be no long lie today. After the present opening the DGC will stay with us while their Mummy goes to officiate at a 12 noon wedding and their Dad has peace to cook Dinner for them and his family. We are dining at the golf course in the afternoon with Dsis and some of her family. ......and so to bed, again.

Hello world. I've been sleeping quite well over Christmas but seem to be back to "thinking". Nothing really earth shattering - Wish I could switch off.

petallus Sat 28-Dec-13 04:58:29

Have been awake for an hour. Insomnia lately. Two hours sleep per night over Christmas.

I'm going to read tomorrow's Guardian now.

Sook Sat 28-Dec-13 05:08:30

Good morning I have been awake for over an hour. I have been sleeping reasonably well of late, even though I have woken early I have managed to get back to sleep. Oh well may as well catch up with the ironing.

petra Sun 29-Dec-13 04:18:29

Good morning to all of you who might be awake.

Granny23 Sun 29-Dec-13 06:19:23

Good Morning Petra. Not sure I meet your criteria - I am up but only half awake!

Ariadne Sun 29-Dec-13 06:21:45

Morning! Woke up at 5.30, trying to decide what we'll have for dinner! DS2, DDiL and two small boys followed us down from DS2's last night. DDiL brought lots of lovely cheese and other stuff, and Sainsbury's deliver at 11.00. So no big problem!

Now having coffee and watching Tikkabillla. As you do. With two cuddly little people in their PJs. Nice!

Sook Sun 29-Dec-13 06:44:52

Morning. Had a lie in this morning 4:45am, lolled in bed for a while but obvious I was not going to sleep. Washing machine on, hounds breakfast, ready, now drinking tea before walking the hounds. Yaaaawn.

Kiora Sun 29-Dec-13 09:27:32

I haven't dare show my face on here for a while. Well at least a week because i'v been sleeping. Oh I do hope it lasts and I haven't jinks it. It makes me realise how much not sleeping well can have an affect on my emotional Heath.

rockgran Sun 29-Dec-13 09:34:23

Good for you Kiora, hope it lasts.

bikergran Sun 29-Dec-13 09:51:29

this may seem so very silly...but!! I ride a motorcycle (the clue is in the name lol) anyway because I have so many famlily/DH/DD/dh health probs...I was finding it really difficult to switch my problems off when going out on my bike...(one needs to be 101% alert riding a bike as well as a car, I don't mean at the same time smile anyway...!!! here it is....I went in the shed and found an old lightswitch!! you with me so far! I have it near my motorcycle gear,on the cabinet....when I have got my gear on and ready to leave the house I switch the switch off!! (telling my head right!!! you have your motorcycle head on now, forgot home worries) it does seem to work but you have to be strong minded.

maybe you could try it! but you have to focus on the switch and really believe it will switch off your problems.

Bellasnana Sun 29-Dec-13 10:01:01

I've been sleeping better for the past couple of nights and I can only think it is due to all the extra food I've been pigging out on eating lately smile

TriciaF Sun 29-Dec-13 11:06:45

Kiora - your point about sleep affecting your emotional health. When I've had a bad night (like Friday) I'm horrible and crabby the next day, nearly provoked a divorce Sat. am.
Last night slept like a log and all bright and cheery today.
I wonder if some of you take sleeping pills? My doctor won't hear of it, though I did have them when last in hospital (hip replacement.)

Grindos Sun 29-Dec-13 20:26:53

I'm really happy for you, Kiora! Yes, long may it last!
TriciaF my GP won't give me sleeping pills any more, even after open heart surgery and I couldn't sleep and felt doubly lousy. I never found they helped much anyway, the first night is good, after that not.

Kiora Mon 30-Dec-13 06:30:40

Spoke to soon. Up at 4.40 this morning tired now. I'm going to read through all these posts and follow some of the tips. I'll try the 'switch' tip bikergran and there was another about using the same word over and over again like a mantra. Oh dear might have known

bikergran Mon 30-Dec-13 14:17:53

oh yes! the same word..I had forgot about that...I used to use and...and.....and....well you get the picture. I will try and remember that tonight as I have sleep problems, drifting in and out constantly all night long...also getting off to sleep..never used to but think things kick into your head at night whilst its dark and quiet, where as during the day we are normally busy with this that n the other.

Kiora Wed 08-Jan-14 06:20:07

Went to bed at 12 up at 4.45. At least I did sleep the problem is I will be tired at 2
