A very Happy Christmas to all who pop into Soop's kitchen especially the Soops......(I have time to pop in as we are NOT having turkey! )

OGM neither am I. I am on my own so I decided that I fancied sirloin steak with trimmings washed down with a good quality Merlot. That will be this evening as I have just had smoked salmon in a roll. I have a feeling that I am unlikely to starve.

I do hope that Rory is being catered for. He can always join Tara who is fast asleep having run around here early am like a dervish. Rory will have a good choice of beds. Tara prefers to be near her mummy just in case I climb out of the kitchen window and leave her.

I am about to have a meagre lunch toast and something better later. DH can't be arsed to put in an appearance the miserable old B*****.

Nelliemoser maybe I am better off on my own with Tara my cat. Your OH sounds a bundle of fun. iF you lived closer you would be welcome to join me.

Yes, Lona and it will soon be over. I have enjoyed my day to date, not even bothering to get dressed. I am having a slob's day in.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I do not see "no signal" on my TV this evening.

A fairly anxious Christmas Day here. DD (and husband) at the hospital with 7 month baby son, my first DG, since first thing 8 hours ago, awaiting more obs in 2 hours time. He hasn't eaten for 3 days, so wheezy and horrid cough, difficult to breath, crying nonstop. Sent off from GP yesterday am with instructions to call the Out of Hours service if it got any worse. What OoH service? Only the dreaded checklist script, and "someone will call you back in the next 12 hours". Which they did in 3 hours at 1am, with an appt at the hospital for 8.30.

I hope things improve Icyalittle - there is nothing more worrying than a sick child on a Bank Holiday. Hopefully he is in good hands.

Popping into Soops kitchen, slobbing in my new fleecy jamas and top. Bottoms are sort of tartan so I shouldn't be too out of place..... just the thing for a cold winter evening!

I'm spent! Today has been hectic - the most chaotic Christmas dinner I've ever produced, despite spending yesterday preparing, and getting all the food organised this morning. Four children, who don't understand the etiquette of having their Christmas dinner, pulled all the crackers whilst I was putting the food out, descended on the pigs in blankets and left one each for mums and dads (they did enjoy them!) and spent their time excitedly trying to operate yoyos and magnetic puzzles that had flown out of the crackers and missed the baby's ear by an inch!

Mums and dads then sat down to their meal, gratefully pouring out wine like there was no tomorrow, whilst the children played and made allegations about sweeties being hidden by brother, nearly being kicked in the face (by the baby) and the youngest (girl) not letting the three boys play with the dolls house, which was where the sweets were eventually found! Can't keep my eyes open - I'm off to bed. Merry Christmas and thank goodness that's out of the way for 12 months!

Why oh why do we make Christmas dinner into such a big deal? Enough food for twice as many, 4different sorts of veggies not counting the roasties, a pud to sink the Titanic 4 accompaniments to it, 6 different cheeses from posh cheese shop.in Marylebone andd DD says we have drunk 14 bottles wine over the day. It has been lovely having the family together and 2DDs and menfolk are still up chatting but is it too much? Could we not do it more simply?

Well, I (quite) enjoyed my day even though I was alone.
After my crisp butty lunch, I continued watching films and pootling on the computer, had facetime with dgds, videos from ds and calls and texts, and a couple of texts from dd.
I followed that with a lasagne from Lidl and a mince pie!
Finally, I watched Love Actually yet again in bed!

soutra That sounds like a mountain of food and wine, and very delicious too.

I'm all for simplicity. It's nice to mark occasions with something special, but it's not as if this one day of the year is the only day when all this food is available. Besides which, it must cost a bomb!

Not having any family around, my day went like this:

Alternative Christmas spent dodging showers, chasing rainbows (3) and playing dare with waves at La Rochelle and Ile de Ré. The sky was a treat with looming clouds. Ate sandwiches in the car and sipped champagne under a bridge, taking shelter from a sudden squall. It was cold, windy and wonderful.

soop Hope your tummy had settled enough to have enjoyed some festive treats.

soop I am just checking that Rory is okay and he is getting sufficient food and rest. A handsome boy like him cannot be expected to wait for food or heaven forbid go out for a takeaway, tasty though it may be.

Ffinnochio, I copied a dish we ate in La Rochelle many moons ago, salmon with 2 sauces and pasta, simple but delicious! We had turkey the previous w/end with No 2 son and DIL and will be having it again for New Year when No1 son and co join us.... couldn't cope with 3 lots of turkey!!!
