Today I have been choosing flowers for my dear friend, who sadly died on Saturday morning.
She had been very ill for a number of years following a lung transplant . She was given 18 months to live three years ago but she was not going to give in with out a fight, and fight she did. I have never met a more stronger, braver woman than her. Most of her last few years has been in constant pain, she became house bound, needing to wear an oxgen mask for most of her day.
I used to visit her once a week, sometimes more than that if I had shopping for her. We spent many an afternoon chatting, some times crying but mostly laughing. It is surprising how when things seem so bleak the funny side of life is there, a lot of our tears were tears of laughter !
She was not only my very best mate she was also my DS mother-in-law, Nana to our grandchildren and a much loved mum to my DiL.
My wonderful son had to break the news to them that their Nana had died, they were broken hearted, the eldest who is 10 knew his Nana was dying but he has been so brave about it.
Her funeral is a week on Thursday, she left details of what she wants, with orders that no one is to wear black, bright colours only, so I have brought a bright pink top to wear !
And her flowers .... she loved her hat she wore at our sons /daughters wedding so I am having flowers and ribbons made into a hat shape in pink, ..... bright of course !
