Top o' the field then! smile

pompa Sun 22-Apr-12 21:56:44

He was disappointed with his time, he was hoping for 3:45, but I think he was very surprised at his overall position. The size of the field slowed him down compared with the times he has done in training.

Congratulations to your son pompa and what a fantastic achievement! I have walked a marathon (London Moonwalk) and the fact that anyone can run that distance amazes me flowers or wine wine

pompa what an achievement for your son, brilliant!

I have had my two DGD's overnight for the first time, well first time I've had no 2, she's 4 months old and just cutting her 2nd tooth so wanted to give DD a break. Actually it was fine, she woke up at 3am blowing raspberries but then I'm often awake at 3am anyway so what better way to be woken up!

bagitha Mon 23-Apr-12 06:48:53

The baby raspberries made me smile, libra smile

nanachrissy Mon 23-Apr-12 07:45:56

Today I have started making an inroad on sorting out J's 'stuff'. I was going to wait but I had a load of plastic bags through the letter box for Age Concern, so decided to go for it as they are picking up tomorrow. Trouble is I keep putting things back in the drawers because I can't bear to let them go and a lot of his sweaters, shirts and shorts fit me so I am transferring them to my drawers! Heaven knows why, I will probably never wear them. Anyway, I do feel a little bit better for doing it - out of sight out of mind, I hope. He always said that I bought for the sake of it but as I have counted 55 formal shirts, 34 casual shirts, 12 T-shirts 31 sweaters not to mention enough socks and pants to clothe a battalion, I don't feel quite so guilty for my spending habits of the past - still all the suits and jackets to do but will leave that for another day.... grin

Bags Tue 24-Apr-12 16:25:04

Glad you feel better for it, gally. sunshine It's not something I've ever had to do.

Butternut Tue 24-Apr-12 16:31:26

gally You appear to have found a balance with this unenviable task, and was very pleased to see your grin at the end of your post.

greenmossgiel Tue 24-Apr-12 17:13:37

Well done, Gally. Quite a triumph. smileflowers
The other day we bought a lovely old chandelier from a car boot sale. It cost £15 and we contacted an electrician to come and fit it today. He took down the light that was already there, and, after installing then testing the chandelier, discovered it to be 'live', due to the absence of an 'earth'. I remained philosophical, thinking, 'It's still very pretty, so I'll put it in the front room where I can hang it from a hook. DH took down the old brass birdcage (don't ask) from the hook in the front room, and hung up the chandelier. Very pretty. We then put the birdcage on top of the rather high dresser in the living room. We have a wooden parrot that sits on top of it, so I thought I would move things around a bit to make it look a bit better....the parrot fell down the back of the dresser which is impossible to move, because it's so heavy. A broom handle wouldn't poke the parrot out, so I suggested getting the hoover and sucking it out. DH tried that, but the hose of the hoover was too thick. While he went to the shed to find a cane, I discovered that all I had to do was reach round the back of the dresser from the other end....the parrot was within a couple of inches of my hand. I found this really very funny, but he didn't sadgrin. I think it was something to do with the fact that the electrician had charged £30 for something that wasn't going to work.....ho hum - you win some, you lose some confusedgrin!

nanachrissy Tue 24-Apr-12 17:24:50

Well done Gally one step at a time. ((hugs)) xx

Gally Tue 24-Apr-12 17:43:41

Green grin Would like to have been a fly on the wall (behind the dresser maybe)

I've been writing ESOL lesson plans for the last couple of days and my brain is sucked dry and no longer functioning properly. I actually lay awake last night trying to devise an interesting and memorable way of teaching coordinating and subordinate conjunctions (and yes thanks, I did eventually think of a way)! I'm currently finding that many things I write or say present me with a potential grammatical conundrum. confused
( For instance; I wrote the above and then started to devise a lesson around lie/lay/laid to demonstrate why it is correct to say 'lay awake' and incorrect to say 'laid awake'. Aaaargh! )

glammanana Wed 25-Apr-12 09:11:25

Gally Well done to you it is a task that I found very hard when I had to do this job at my parents home I lost them within 2 mths of each other and the task seemed to be endless flowers
green Did the parrot suffer any damage did you have to call the vet ???
I would have loved to have witnessed the performance its a good job it was not in my house the air would have been a slight shade of blue.grin
