Where is everyone? I know I'm not the only insomniac; been awake since 3.00 and I'm now bored....

Libradi Fri 20-Jan-12 08:01:56

Morning all, hope your foot gets better soon Faye. Carol I'm going to be cuddling my DGD today, poor little baby has a sore throat and bit of an ear infection and is on antibiotics. I'm so glad my DD got her to the doctors quickly, she's such a contented baby and really only cries when she's hungry so DD knew there was something wrong.

Hope the rest of you insomniacs get some sleep smile

Faye Fri 20-Jan-12 08:02:07

Butternut I think it is a spider bite. Imagine a spider biting me in the night...yuk. shock

Carol your granddaughters look gorgeous. I have been enjoying my granddaughter every day and she smiles with her whole face...she is adorable. Next week I will be away for a whole month, she will have grown so much by the time I get back. smile

Annobel Fri 20-Jan-12 08:06:17

Poor you Faye. I hope it doesn't get any worse. Would an ice pack help?

Carol Fri 20-Jan-12 08:28:10

It's so fantastic to be able to celebrate that we are sharing in our grandchildren's lives from the moment they were born. I am still thinking about those of us who struggle to get to see some of these lovely children whose lives can only be enriched by seeing their grandparents.

grannyactivist Fri 20-Jan-12 08:42:53

It's a mixed bag isn't it Carol? The happy times spent with some of our grandchildren sometimes feed into the sense of loss we have about those we can't see and build relationships with. My oldest granddaughter will be fourteen this year and I'm sad that I won't be a part of her teen years.
I'm counting my blessings though as my little grandson adores me and I see him ALL the time and he regards my home and his as interchangeable.

Gally Fri 20-Jan-12 09:07:29

Good Morning - I'm up (and about time too did I hear echoing around GN!)
GA thanks and sad. My eldest GS was 8 yesterday and I have spent less than a year in total with him in that time due to distance. At least I do see him and have lots of contact by phone and Skype - and with his younger bro and sis; I can't begin to understand how dreadful it must be to be totally out of contact with children and grandchildren.
Off to Ikea today

JessM Fri 20-Jan-12 09:25:46

awake in the night. made the mistake of picking up my book The Help. Of course it is so good it kept me awake for a couple of hours. Poor old DH on early train to London and I managed to snooze off till 9. Spider bite sounds horrid there Faye.
I haven't spoken to mine in NSW for a couple of weeks cos they have other nan there, which is hard work. My GS is 4 next week. You're right it is about counting your blessings when you only see them intermittently.

JessM Fri 20-Jan-12 09:34:58

BTW has anyone else noticed that site has been very quiet this week. Is it the result of last week's falling out do you think?
It has been great to see so many new contributors over the last month. I wonder how many of them were lurkers before xmas. I suspect most of us ... how shall I put it... regular contributors... are the people who would be most vocal if we were together in the real world.
It would be fascinating wouldn't it to have an admin eye view to see how many people online and how many posting...

Faye Fri 20-Jan-12 10:05:42

It's starting to get dark here and I am on my own so I thought I would watch a film while I rest my foot. The film I saw is called Red Dog and it's a true story set in the seventies. It was quite different, sad in places and very Australian, but worth watching. smile

morningFaye!
I'm still trying to have my breakfast coffee! First the delivery van with the pictures, then the chap to service my burglar alarm. Next will be my hairdresser, then the delivery man with the groceries. Later my cleaner will come then her husband who is my handyman. he's going to hang the pictures and put ups new light fitting!
this is friday my QUIET at home day when I don,t work! LOL

Faye Fri 20-Jan-12 11:12:50

I love time on my own jeni and for the next few days I am going to wallow in aloneness, bliss!!! smile

Ariadne Fri 20-Jan-12 11:13:54

My lovely cleaner is ill, so I have been reacquainting myself with the Dyson and the polish. There must be some inherited gene, from my mother, I'm sure, that insists you have to "get done" before you can sit down.

Oh well, at least I haven't inherited the gene for sweeping and scrubbing "the front" every day, or sweeping my bit of the pavement! Do you remember people doing that? She used an ammonia based product called Stardrops.

jeni Fri 20-Jan-12 11:25:32

Ariadne
My trouble is that I ca't even bend down to plug dyson in! My hairdresser has just arrived! No peace for the wicked.

bagitha Fri 20-Jan-12 11:28:16

Polish!?

Really?

Gosh.

greenmossgiel Fri 20-Jan-12 11:50:06

I still use Stardrops! Great for washing anything at all....though I haven't used it on the front step yet! (That's never on my 'to do' list!) I do know what you mean about not sitting down until everything's done - my mother had that instilled in me as well. It doesn't mean to say I'm doing anything worthwhile, though, in the meantime, apart from standing trying to remember what I was going to do! confused

supernana Fri 20-Jan-12 13:45:21

Faye Poor you. Might the pain be connected with gout? My late father had it and the symptoms sound similar. Take care. smile

kittylester Fri 20-Jan-12 14:01:46

JessM I had thought the site was quiet too and couldn't work out why, perhaps you are right sad Or we've all maybe got post Christmas/January blues!

Faye Fri 20-Jan-12 14:11:54

supernana I do have arthritis in my hands and feet but I am very careful what I eat, no meat, no fish, I drink mainly green tea, eat lots of vegetables and greens etc, not very much alcohol, maybe a glass of wine or two ever couple of weeks. I am not over weight, I take no medication, I shouldn't have gout but my father had it and it was painful for him, far more painful than my swollen foot. If I do it's probably the freddo frogs that I love. smile

Gally Fri 20-Jan-12 14:17:19

Faye I hope you go and see the Doc if it doesn't improve. My SIL was bitten by a spider at Christmas (his own fault) but went to the hospital as it was so painful and you never know with all those funnelbacks and hunters and heaven knows what else lurking about hmm

jeni Fri 20-Jan-12 14:38:47

GOUT. Tumour, dolour and robot!

jeni Fri 20-Jan-12 14:41:40

Rubor! That's what happens when you switch from mac to iPad!.
Gout is horrible. I know I've had it once! I hope it all gets better soon! Even untreated it usually only lasts about10days.

supernana Fri 20-Jan-12 14:43:12

Gally I purchased some of that gubbins that spiders dislike so much. Since spraying some of the essence in the obvious places, lo and behold, we haven't seen any in house for yonks. hmm

Oldgreymare Fri 20-Jan-12 19:12:24

Faye.. I do hope the rest has helped your foot. thanks

Faye Fri 20-Jan-12 23:01:44

Thank you for the concern, my foot is still swollen and a bit sore, but my toes didn't have that burning sensation this morning. Hopefully it will improve, I wish it would go away. I have to go and check the cow's water, feed the chooks and should be moving some things to my renovating in progress cottage, which all means walking distances. Things to do and its getting very hot outside. hmm

yogagran Fri 20-Jan-12 23:21:28

Ouch - that sounds nasty, take it easy as soon as the chores are done faye
