I just watched a programme I had recorded about the late Oliver Reed who was my ultimate fantasy male. I realise he was not everyone's cup of tea and indeed that style unreconstructed chauvinist is very much frowned upon. I would say however that I thoroughly enjoyed watching this programme all on my own which allowed me to go back to my old fantasy trips. I do think he was a very good actor although I agree he wasted his talent but what a life he must have had. he gave me hours of pleasure (!) anyway, RIP Ollie.xx

Have you read 'Hellraisers' Teetime? I haven't read it myself but I know my SIL has it. The nude wrestling scene in Women in Love was filmed in one of the rooms at Elvaston Castle..you can see inside the room if you walk round the park. All the local children were extras and they were paid in ice cream. The lake was Elvaston Castle Lake and the Highland Cattle used to live in a field nearby.

I loved Oliver Reed too! I always went for the same type, mean and arrogant! Stewart Granger as well!
blush
That's why I got divorced twice! I'm rotten at picking men!

Met him twice when I lived in Roehampton, both times blind drunk and really scarry- so no, not my choice ever.

I met him in a pub on Wimbledon Common & he asked me out to dinner. He has just made Women in Love & when I saw the film I wondered why I turned him down - but I still preferred Alan Bates sans kit!

Oliver Reed and I lived in the same village for some years. As you know, he was a bit of a lad |(to put it mildly!). I could tell a tale or two, but not here blush Many years later, after his death, I met his daughter in Spain - small world....

Wasn`t he buried, at his own request, in a plot facing a pub?

He was sex on legs.

He was a damn fine actor, but I wouldn`t have wanted to be married to him.

No there are some men that are hugely charismatic but not marriageable. I was very much drawn to one such Lothario - he didn't drink but boy did he have a big ego- luckily I had the sense not to go there- still think about him though. wink

I never liked Oliver Reed - too much like my father.

He was absolutely gorgeous when younger and had loads of charm and charisma all his life. The sort of bloke you would want to spend a night or a wild week with but not a long term partner. That said, trying to keep him is a challenge a lot of us would have taken on. And he was a great actor.

I adored him when he was young. I remember very early on when he played Richard of Gloucester in a serial about the Wars of the Roses.

He played Bill Sykes in the Oliver Twist movie. No other actor could have bettered him - he was perfectly cast.
Yes I fancied him like mad but would never have gone near him if that makes sense. He was scary, and I would never have tolerated his booozing.

He was my ultimate fantasy male. I like to think I wouldn't have chosen to live with him as a partner - but realistically I don't think he would have chosen - or even noticed - me!

Nfkdumpling. Ditto. He was fabulous and just the sort of man I went for.

Bellasnana Sat 25-Jul-15 20:13:07

He wasn't my cup of tea, but he died in Malta, in a pub in Valletta, so I do think about him whenever I pass by the place. It still dines out on its connection with him, needless to say sad

NfkDumpling, you say he wouldn`t have chosen you, but look who he married, a very nice, normal looking, homely young girl. I wonder if she ever remarried?

Penstemmon Sat 25-Jul-15 22:43:05

I worked with someone who turned her fantasy into reality! Saw O R in Wimbledon/Putney quite a lot as he was brought up there and often returned. He chatted to any girl/woman who glanced in his direction grin. He was lush but I also preferred Alan Bates in Women in Love!

My fantasy male too Dumpling, absolutely gorgeous and a great actor in his younger days. So sad to see the shambling, incoherent idiot he became, it's tragic what an addiction to drink does.
