hear hear,everyone! Ive just rried to join silver surfers. Alas; Wrong Password!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nelliemoser that is my problem. I have forgotten it before I write the confirmation password so I have to start again.

I have 3 passwords that I use regularly (all 8 characters) but I have just had to produce one that only had 6 characters one of which had to be uppercase and one a number - why

My latest password collection is using the place I went to for holiday and it really helps me to remember eg I might have gone to Blackpool this year so password is Black2014pool or 20Blackpool14. Endless hours of fun.

I have a folder in which I keep my passwords but haven't worked out how to put a password on that folder to keep others out of it. And how would I remember it anyway?

Exactly! We had to resubmit financial information for DS's student loan the other week. I write all of my numbers and passwords down, DBH keeps his in a folder. He had forgotten the password. Two nailbiting days before he finally remembered the code he needed before he could find all the details. In that folder were all the passport numbers, EHIC numbers, NHI and everything, he looked a bit embarrassed when I produced the phone book with all the same numbers written down in it!

DH had all his passwords in a PC folder with a password of its own. I had mine, and some of the shared ones, on paper. Once upon a time I knew his master password, but when he died I realised I had forgotten it. I have had to reassemble them from incomplete lists that I had made, by guesswork from knowing what kind of thing he would have used, and in some cases just starting from scratch.

If you do use a master password, hide it somewhere in plain sight - as a fake entry in an address book for instance (but remember that anyone searching for it illegally probably knows more than you do about the places where people are likely to have hidden such things - you can't win)

Just what I needed thank you.

My son advised to me think of a song or poem which I would be unlikely to forget containing the word(s) to or for. For example:

If you go down to the woods today

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day

Then, take the first letter of each word and change the to and / or for into numerals. Thus:

Iygd2tw2d

SIct2asd

All you have to do then is remember the song, but I suppose a bear key ring or summery scent might help.

I write all my passowords in a little notebook. But in order to keep them secure I blank out some of the letters/numbers. So it's a challenge each time I need to check a password, trying to work out my own security measures. .

I had to change my password for ebay. Oh boy, does that cause problems. Still I've saved a lot of money

I have a little thing that helps me to remember my PIN number. I write on a scrap of paper, or even better an appointment card for the hairdressers something like "cut and blow dry, £32.75" Or a dry cleaning ticket works well too, "jacket, £12.50" Or if the numbers are less likely to look like an amount for dry cleaning or hairdressing, a supermarket receipt can be used, something like "I owe Jane £11.32"

Not much use though if your first number is a zero!

You could write "I've to give Jane BACK £11.30"
