Raspberry trifle for kids

I don’t like the taste of alcohol so always used orange juice to moisten the sponge fingers.

If you are defrosting raspberries they will produce juice which may be enough to soak the sponge. otherwise use orange juice.

we make a scotch trifle with sponge and fruit then jelly ,topped with custard then cream .no booze required

paddyann54, similar here - except we use raspberry jam in the sponges, tinned peaches and fresh raspberries, then semi-set jelly (so the cake isn't all soaked and too soggy). Next, a layer of custard, piped cream and dark chocolate flakes on top. Adults can add sherry to their bowl if required!

(Our elderly neighbour, Rose, would often pop in for tea and a snack - or we'd visit with our toddler son. On Christmas Eve, she said we must go in for sherry and a mince pie. I became worried when he kept falling over. 'I only gave him half a cup - but well, it is Christmas!' she said. Drunk at 11 months old.)
