Good Morning Everyone,
A dark but a dry start to the day here in Brackley this morning.
Blood Test went OK yesterday, got there early ,and got done straight away so I was able to get the next bus home .
Today , usual trip to Bicester , hopefully see people I know to chat to , return home and go to the Chippy before I settle down to watch more cycling on TV .
Health OK,
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning from yet another dry day in Bristol. Nights are getting longer and colder so it’s still dark and cool.
I had lots to do yesterday before t’ai chi, the usual house work, etc.,but it takes time. Particularly dislike sweeping the floor as it makes my back hurt - all brooms, etc., are made for dwarves!
Iris particularly like one oven glove I made for her annual “lucky dip” Advent calendar, so I’m making her a second one. The poor girl is being measured for her full body brace for scoliosis and a twisted spine. This genetic condition is one that keeps on giving!
Dinner at DD’s was very pleasant as she had decided to stop working at 5 rather than 6; it made her more relaxed and chattier.
Iris was also very chatty with me; she is normally polite but very distant and barely monosyllabic. It was really good as she an be very perceptive and interesting.
Today, I’m off to coffee at a church friend’s house, about a mile away - longish walk. On the way back, I’ll get some plants to replace the ones I have removed from my pots. Probably heathers and cyclamen.
I’ve been sad to learn of all the worries and sadness, but delighted that karma’s tooth has finally gone.

Good morning Mick, morning all from dark and damp South Lanarkshire.

We had a busier day than expected yesterday as the children were sent home from school early due to the water having been cut off due to a burst water main nearby

This morning I have to be at the church early to help set up the hall for our Sunday Cafe. Supermarket shopping after that.

I was pleased to see that you had the offending tooth removed without any problems Karma. Such a relief for you.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Good morning from another calm day in Cornwall with lots of sun forecast so I'll need to water my patio plants yet again today.

I did something which is rare for me yesterday when I purchased two brand new tops instead of remaking charity shop items. They were Sea Salt boating tops which last almost forever so I was happy to indulge in them. As there's an abundance of their shops within easy reach I popped into one in a town I happened to be passing through.

Previous to that at my doctor's surgery (where, oh joy, the final dressings came off my burnt feet and the nurse pronounced the result 'Excellent!') I answered a questionnaire from an official team member and relayed the perfect, seamless treatment I've had from the NHS recently. It was good to be able to have it logged as I know that many people complain.

Today I'm visiting my arty daughter-in-law for a good old catch up and plenty of laughter, yippee.

Sar53 Fri 25-Sept-26 05:42:27

Good morning from the Essex coast.
I've been awake since 3 with severe pain in my back. I think it's my right shoulder blade.
I was fine when I went to bed but woke up to go to the bathroom and almost passed out with the pain.
We are meant to be going away on the boat for the weekend but I can't see me going.
I'm waiting for DH to get up and make me a cup of tea so that I can take some strong painkillers.
I Cannot imagine what I have done.
Sorry for the tale of woe so early in the morning.

Greyduster Fri 25-Sept-26 05:43:12

Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is still dark. I have been awake most of the night, but I did turn in quite early last night.

Yesterday’s walk in the woods was lovely. Chestnuts are falling but they are small this year because we’ve had such a dry summer. Our regular walk leader was away yesterday, and her stand in is known for setting a cracking pace with a bigger group than ours. We prefer to “stop and smell the roses” so she was visibly bored by the end. I had my usual lunch at DD’s. There are full-on building projects at several houses in her road including the one opposite so parking is at a premium. I couldn’t even get onto her drive!

A reasonably easy day today. Light housework, and then a short session at school this afternoon.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Melanie61 Fri 25-Sept-26 06:04:00

Good morning from Sheffield
Same here Greyduster, I don’t know why I was awake. No obvious reason why.

I am off to have a tour around a local manor hose today with a friend. It is the house where the Sitwell sibling were born. I can vaguely remember Edith Sitwell being interviewed on tv and hearing her recite her poems. We shall have cake too. The gardens are spectacular. We tried to go a few weeks ago but things got in the way. The gardens may be past their best but will definitely be greener.

The husband has to have both hands operated on for carpel tunnel and is finally meeting with the surgeon. He has been waiting for 9 months. I hope he’s not waiting as long for the ops.
Take care everyone flowers

Good morning from Malta where the forecast is for possible showers and a high of 26°C. It is also going to be windy.

I took Milo dog for a walk yesterday which we both enjoyed as there was a breeze and the temperature was much more bearable. He’s a good little dog on his walks as long as nobody comes too close. He’s overly protective! Fortunately we encountered nobody else so it was a pleasant outing.

I had seen someone on a recycle site asking for hardback books so I answered him and he arrived in the evening and took all I had. Such a lovely young man. He is setting up a library in his home and was absolutely thrilled with the books I had. He brought me a bottle of wine as a thank you which I thought was so thoughtful even though I don’t drink.

I’m having my roots done today otherwise no particular plans.

Glad you had a good time with the family grandMattie. Sorry you are suffering Sar.💐

Wishing you all a good day.☀️

Usedtobeblonde Fri 25-Sept-26 06:11:09

Good morning from Stockport.
It is very dark this morning but we had another sunny warm day yesterday.

I said goodbye to the cleaners yesterday, they really didn't do a good job so I decided my money was being wasted.

My GD will go through every couple of weeks until I find someone else but will only go by personal recommendation this time.

I hope you all find some sun in your life today.

RosesandLilac Fri 25-Sept-26 06:33:02

Good morning, dark and cool here in south Glos, the forecast says foggy too.
Yesterday I did a couple of hours gardening, very pleased with my efforts. I’m being quite ruthless about what goes and what plants stay so there’s quite a lot of bare soil in places. One more bed to tackle today then that’s the back garden done, just some pots to refresh and plant up!
Tiddler and I had a couple of hours in the Shed, she’s my little shadow follows me everywhere. If I don’t shut her downstairs she’ll follow me upstairs and sit outside the bathroom while I shower, bless her 😍
Stuffed marrow for dinner today; my vegetable box came yesterday, a beautiful selection of veg and fruit, very fresh and mostly grown locally.
I’m going to get one every two weeks, free delivery and you can say what you don’t want so I have sweetcorn, lettuce, runner beans, carrots, tomatoes, courgettes, peaches, tangerines, apples, pears, onions, parsnips, damsons, new potatoes and cauliflower. Plenty for us!
I do need to do some housework today too, but I will get the gardening done first while it’s cool.
Absolutely nothing planned for the next few days, I will enjoy doing whatever I like!
Best wishes x
🌹

Greyduster Fri 25-Sept-26 06:35:09

Enjoy your day, Melanie. It’s just down the road from us - I’ll wave to you as you go past😁!

harrigran Fri 25-Sept-26 06:43:39

Good morning from the NE wher I have been awake since 5am. It was raining when I first looked out but the forecast is for a dry day.
I have bad stomach pains so today is a rest day, going to put the bin out then going back to bed.
Yesterday I made some carrot and coriander soup which was a good idea because I will be on a restricted diet today.
Have a good day.

monk08 Fri 25-Sept-26 06:47:48

GrannyGravy13 Fri 25-Sept-26 06:55:00

Good morning from a bright and mild S E Essex.

The Imp has just woken up, the first thing he does is make his bed, he is growing up so quick and is such a good boy. His request for breakfast is fluffy (American) pancakes with blueberries and strawberries, so that’s my first job 💙

I shall go to the gym, a quick chat and cup of tea afterwards. Then I shall pick up DH and go to one of our local farm shops for veggies and a mooch

Oh Sar53 I do hope your pain eases and you can get away. Do you think it has gone into a spasm, it might wear off with gentle movement 🌺

Grandmabatty Fri 25-Sept-26 07:07:56

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° and damp. I'm another who woke very early, around four. However I managed to get back to sleep. GrandMattie Iris has a lot to put up, poor girl. Marzipan I'm glad your feet are ok now. Sar, poor you. It sounds very painful.
Yesterday I had a busy morning. A very early haircut, then a trip to the health centre with a sample to hand in, then a visit to the school library for a quick tidy. Then a trip to the community hospital for a flu jag. The afternoon was quiet. The new wreath hanger arrived and put to use immediately. Ds messaged me later. He's had no interest in his flat and is quite down about it all. It's very surprising as he lives in a beautiful building and his flat is very nice. My garden makeover man messaged to say it'll be the middle of October before he gets to me. Im quite happy waiting because they are a sought after firm.
Today I need to go to Aldi for bread as I've run out. Either that, or make bread. Im not sure if I have enough flour. I suppose I could make soda bread as I only need enough for today and breakfast tomorrow. Decisions, decisions! I will crack on with washings today and probably wash the floors too. I didn't get round to cleaning the windows, so they are on the list. A thoroughly housewifey day ahead. Have a good day all.

glammagran Fri 25-Sept-26 07:23:24

Good morning from Wiltshire.

We are quite upset that we won’t be having GD3 and GS2 overnight tonight as DH is still testing positive for Covid. We were going to drop them off later on Saturday with the other GPs but B is on immunosuppressants as he has RA and lung issues. We can’t take them the other way round to avoid contact as we are going to Bath on Sunday to see a band we bought tickets for months ago. It will be a very long weekend for the other GPs.

I’m so happy that you have been relieved of your awful tooth pain Karma. Hope you will feel much better soon. What a lot of dental issues there are this month on GN.

BlueSapphire I hope your infection clears up soon. Maybe you have Covid as DH is also coughing very badly though he hasn’t had a raised temperature like I did.

I will read today’s posts later on. Have a good day everyone.

Gagagran Fri 25-Sept-26 07:28:05

Good Morning everyone from a cool but bright morning on the central south coast. The sun is coming up quickly and we are promised another lovely day..

We expect our Tesco grocery order between 9 and 10am and DH will wait for his breakfast treat of two croissants, until they come. I have had my banana and cup of tea. Not a breakfast fan but need a banana to keep my gastritis prone stomach quiet.

Our plumber is coming first thing Monday morning to fit the new shower, which was delivered yesterday. We can manage with strip washes until then.

Next week is busy with something on the agenda every day. The stair lift is to be installed on Thursday and will make my life easier. I hope so anyway!

I also hope that I can manage to visit the garden centre soon as I want to stock up with tulips and winter pansies and prefer to see what I am buying rather than order from a catalogue. DH has made a start on removing the roses from the front garden rose bed but there are still a good number to go at. I have been disappointed with them as they have reverted to wildness and not been easy to control. Definitely not tea roses!

Wishing all our strugglers and worriers and those with health issues a good day. Hope your tooth extraction has not left you too sore and bruised karma.

madeleine45 Fri 25-Sept-26 07:28:49

Good morning Michael and all GN's from an extremely dark and still morning here in North Yorkshire. can see nothing but black outside so far. I am absolutely shattered and limping around this morning, but in a good cause so physically, a real crock but mentally great today.

Yesterday was S day, as in the grand planned sorting day. This had many opportunities to go wrong, but didnt. So the great plan was that the cleaners were coming for 2 hours not 1,that the other lady they know Amanda , who has previously come on occasion - the great key and anything else finder, who isone of those very slim people that you wouldnt think would have a lot of strength but is an ace at opening things no one else can and moving large things with ease, was coming to sort out the borders and at last get the languishing plants put in, that were my great sale bargains, but which I hadnt been able to do myself. Then the next thing was to hope that the weather would be dry and let us get on with things easily. The last but really necessary was for me to be in the organised sorting mood and not be dithering about each and every thing.

Well for once , it all came together, and it was a busy bee hive of activity. I had been out in the morning, putting the washing in and getting it hung out before I went to the group, and cut short my trip there to be back and at the ready when the gang arrived. So I was able to dump my bags down and carry on down on the yellow peril to collect the washing, which was slightly damp but ok for ironing and I wanted it in and out of the way before the onslaught in cas it started to rain later. So by the time everyone arrived I had got the washing in and had made a hasty sandwich and was already rather tired so opened a bottle of cider, and enjoyed my fresh bread and the little treat, to "gird up the loins" for the task ahead.

When Amanda arrived first, I had opened the gardening shed, put out the fold up chair into the garden, and just while I was showing her what areas I needed weeding , a car that was in the nearest space to my flat left, so I hastily hobbled to my car and moved it into that space.Tick tick, for when I need to sort out the picnic basket etc etc and not so far to walk. Returned to the interuppted plan of action and was showing her where I wanted the plants to go , when even better the neighbour who had parked his car slightly blocking my garage doorway left, so again a quick hobble to get the keys and a wrestle with the wonky door meant that I got that open and ready for action. The plan was for some things that I didnt want to actually get rid of at the moment, but that were in the flat could be moved to the garage where they would be dry and safe but out of my way.

So, before they even arrived I was very tired and my back was very bad and legs looking swollen , as I was too busy and was ignoring the fact that I hadnt put my legs up much at all that day. Never mind, it was all worth while and we all pulled our weight, and of course they were all able to work at a much quicker pace than I could have done. Things were moved, the mattress turned on the bed and bed made and I rather ensconsed myself in a chair in the lounge, and they brought me firstly all the bags of winter/summer clothes, where I sat rather like a spider in a web, (or like the bag lady!) and had a flow line. So it was summer things clean but not ironed in one bag, winter clothes in another to be hung in the wardrobes or put in the drawers. Another bag of winter things shoved in a different bag to be tried on later where I wasnt sure that I a) could still fit into them or b) still liked them enough to wear them, and then lastly another bag for clen things that I had definitely decided I wouldnt wear again , to go to the charity shop, and the odd bits and pieces considered rubbish put in the rubbish bin. We all beavered away at our various jobs, with me calling out when I was ready for more bags to sort or for them to put things away for me. When that lot had been done, I then moved onto a much harder job, namely going through my many many books, with the aim of trying to give lots away and to sort through bookshelves and return the books in an ordered and tidy manner, as over time the shelves were getting mixed up, as I found it difficult to bend down to etc. Well Debbie was assigned to keep me fed with piles of books and did a good job, but as expected there was very little found for the charity shop, and I had to keep myself on a tight rein and not allow myself to start reading books. I did manage to find 6 books to donate!!

We only had one pitstop for coffee or tea and I had a tesco coffee cake to raise spirits and give energy to the workers. So at the end of two hours, they had something else they had to go to, and I had had enough anyway. Amanda had done well in the garden, managing to make a major difference to one whole border so that it really does look "before and after " with one border looking much tidier, weed free, and of course , with the precious plants in and watered. So there is still plenty to do there, but I will be encouraged to do a bit every day now as and when I am able, as the mess of it all is now improved. Oh and we had a joint effort to sort out the honeysuckle that I had bought very cheaply, planted next to a wigwam of canes, but not been able to wind it in and out ,and so it had been growing skiy wards .So between us, I directed Amanda in how to carefully unpick and unwind the branches, then I inspected them and used my secateurs to trip off small dead bits, and broken stems etc and then it took some time to rewind it through the wigwam and in a more horizontal manner. When that was all done and a bucket of saved water poured round the roots and the weeds near by removed it is now in a much better state and one less thing to annoy me when I couldnt do it myself.

So the result when they left, is still a work in progress, but definitely a heartwarming effort. I now have the garden in a much better state, no pots of plants waiting to be done and can slowly do a bit as and when the weather and my back allows. Quite a lot of things have moved to the garage, so now I need to decide what is going where in the spaces left and do that. In the meantime, everyday things like the ironing mountain need sorting, but even that will be a little diminished as any clean summer things will go unironed into the summer bag.

As you might expect, I was absolutely exhausted, and in quite a lot of pain, because I hadnt stopped and rested but pushed on to make the most of the time. It was a struggle to make something to eat, and I had to go and sprawl on the bed with my legs raised for a good half hour before I could manage to do anything.

Today I need to be in the library for 10 o clock for what I hoope will be curling rather than the bocca today. I most definitely will be sitting for whatever we do, but look forward to decreaking myself and enjoy meeting the group, and also having a break before returning to the onslaugh this afternoon. Also a little triumph I shall be reporting to the group there. I told you of the saga of the useless disabled entrance to the hotel etc and I had written a detailed email to the head office of the group, and told the people in the bocca group of my efforts. A couple of people agreed that it was all badly done but that I was wasting my time getting in touch and that nothing would happen. Well HA!! My missive did get through to the person I wanted it to and I received a reply, thanking me for my detailed email, explaining that he had not visited that particular hotel himself, that he had sent the email and asked for a detailed report from the manager there, and promising to read the report and then get in touch again to let me know his findings and what they intended to do about it. So a small triumph to begin with but a start, and I most definitely will not lose interest or let it go until something is actually done. I shall also be checking on the progress from the librarian on my complaint about getting into there too. I am in Brunnhilde mode and will be donning my viking headdress (metaphorically speaking) and going into battle whereever necessary, remaining polite but determined. Watch this space.

So as you can see , at last the scales are coming down on the positive side with actually being able to see something for the effort put in. That is not only good for this occasion, but more importantly gives me a recent memory to look back on, when things are not going my way. Oh and I even had success in getting a pair of trousers in the sale in Seasalt, sent directly to the shop , and not as on the last occasion sent to my address and nearly ended up in the rubbish . So was even able to totter up there on the yellow peril at nearly 5pm , try them on and return home with them. so felt it was a pity I hadnt had a go on the lottery or something as yesterday was my lucky day. Well I am also pleased to be able to tell you all this saga of positive events, after you have all been so kind and put up with my grumbles and moans. If it works, I am sending you all some of my good luck wishes for today.

I am glad you had a quick turn round for your blood test Mick and hope you have a good day today. GrandMattie I cant actually think of the name of the company, but in the garden centre there is a make that you can get longer handles for things and swap them about, and I wonder if you might look for a brush or other things with longer handles, or alternatively just buy one of the handles and fix a brush head onto it ? If the name of the make comes to mind I will let you know. I hope all goes well with the fitting for Iris. It is such a hard thing for her to cope with and it is also so hard for families where we can only help in little ways and wish we could do more for them. Marzipan , I am a fan of Seasalt , for the colours and the quality of their materials, but get so annoyed that they dont stock all the sizes in the shops, but expect us to make all the effort , trying things on at home etc., It actually does show how much I think of their things that I am still buying any of their things via the shop. I do think their stripey T shirts are very good and have many of them , and in particular have about 3 or 4 pairs of their linen trousers with the T shirts to match and get great wear out of them, being my favourite when you can choose something to wear, feel good in it and then totally forget about it and just know you will be comfortable and look fine in it. I am pleased for you that you have not ended up with lasting problems with your feet and hope you have a good day today.
Sar53, so sorry you are having a rubbish day and that you wont get away on the boat. Bad enough being in pain, but when it also stops you doing something you want to do it adds to the misery. Dont apologise for your post, we all , hopefully, feel able to tell it how it is, and it is an added disappointment when you cant do something you have looked forward to. Be kind to yourself and hope that some painkillers soon kick in and ease things for you.

Well , I can see easily now, and it is still, grey, and a bit miserable looking, maybe we might get rain by the looks of it, well that will help my newly planted things, No sign of squirrel or any bird life at all this morning. Time to look for the WD40 - in my case the shower!- and get myself together. ( I wonder if the younger readers even know what that is these days !) I shall hopefully ease up after my trip to the group this morning and return to further onslaughts on the mess. Well I can actually get into the long cupboard now so that is a start. Wishing you all a positive day too and award yourselves a lovely cup of coffee or tea to cheer the day, as I am about to do.

Redcar Fri 25-Sept-26 07:28:54

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Another sunny morning and a warm day forecast again. After my walk yesterday I cleaned the kitchen and cut the grass in front of my and my next door neighbour’s gardens.
It took me ages to go to sleep last night, I’d been worried about DD2, who was stuck in London due to problems with the trains. She eventually got home at 10.30, tired and hungry.

sar I hope your shoulder improves quickly so that you are able to have your weekend on the boat.

rosesandlilac your veg box sounds amazing!

marzipan good that your feet are now fully recovered and you can resume your normal life! Enjoy your visit to your daughter in law.

Thinking of all who are struggling with life’s challenges and hoping that those challenges ease today.

Have the best Friday possible everyone.

WalthamstowinWaiting Fri 25-Sept-26 07:36:29

Gosh, you all start impressively early! Sorry to hear of the various woes; this getting older business isn't for wimps is it?

I have a full day of safeguarding training today (receiving it, rather than giving it) which could be dull but I have great colleagues at work so it should be fine. My dog comes to work with me so I shall have to use every break to dash to my office and take him for a quick amble.

My daughter is coming over tonight. She is still getting her head around being pregnant, so it could be an emotional evening!

Hope everyone has a good enough day, and that all aches and pains go away.

latedecember1963 Fri 25-Sept-26 07:37:29

Good morning everyone from a just getting light Lancashire.
The nights are definitely getting longer. It was nearly dark by 7.15pm last night.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder, Sar. No fun, especially when you had plans to be sailing.

Glad your feet have recovered, Marzipan. I like a Seasalt three quarter length sleeve top too. They make a good base layer when it's chilly so get lots of wear all year round.

I was sorry to read yesterday that several of you had sad or bad news or worries lurking in the background. It's hard when people we care about are going through difficult times.

Your GD sounds a brave soul, GrandMattie. Such a lot to deal with at a young age.

Yesterday's Child in Need meeting went well. We are almost at a point where we can be signed off from social services, but we don't want that to happen until we have a passport for the little chap.
There are extra layers of identity required because he's been a ward of the state and these are proving difficult to obtain. We are concerned that we wouldn't be able to get them independently.

No set plans for today. DH has gone into the office. I can hear an Iggle Piggle tune playing in the next room so I'll love you and leave you.

Wishing you all the best day possible, whatever it may bring. 🌻

Good morning from a wet northwest coast. After the hairdresser yesterday, I had a drive through our local ‘countryside’ (my hairdresser is twenty miles away, but suits me) with Classic FM on the radio.

I’m feeling better after my cold, but had a sharp spasm on the site of my abdominal hernia op’ eighteen months ago in the evening, pushed it in and had a lie down. I fear it may have failed, so will get in touch with the consultant 🙄

Long FaceTime with sister in the south and a catch up with the old Poldark series I never saw at the time completed the day.
Back to art this morning, then a photo for my passport renewal.
Thoughts to all poorlies🌺

Gingster Fri 25-Sept-26 07:44:31

Good morning all and it’s a bit overcast but I’m sure it will turn into another warm, sunny day. We don’t do rain here in the south.! We are having our conservatory roof replaced first week in October. What are the odds on that the rain will arrive then!

Yesterday the nurse arrived in good time and was very pleased with dh. 😳. His sugar levels were up a bit but not too bad, bp fine, cholesterol levels fine, answered all questions fine. He’s good at putting on a show.

Just heard friend who’s stuck on a Greek island with seriously ill Dh, is flying home on Sunday with a nurse. That’s the plan anyway.

Db is out of hospital looking like he’s done ten rounds with Mohammed Ali. I’ll pop to see him if I can get a lift.

I’m not sure about our Friday meetup with friends, I’ll see how Dh is when he stirs.

Oh Sar that sounds so painful. As GG says maybe a spasm that will ease.🤞.

Poor Iris 💐. It isn’t fair is it!

I hope your stomache pains ease Harrigran

Rosesandlilac that veg/fruit box sounds amazing! What a lovely selection.

Take care all 🌻

brook2704 Fri 25-Sept-26 07:48:05

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a dry bright start to the day. It’s feeling colder too, I’ve held out for as long as possible but had to put the heating on last night 🥶
Oh my goodness Sar I hope your back pain subsides quickly
I’ve a busy day ahead with aerobics at the gym this morning and then a volunteering session most of this afternoon. We’ve still no internet, they’re saying Monday now so hope it’s no longer
Gingster 💐
Hoping everyone has the best day they can, take care all

luluaugust Fri 25-Sept-26 07:51:50

Good morning from a bright W Kent. The workmen have arrived with a tower to do various roof works. No luck yet with getting the car out of the garage so DGD2 is taking me to the supermarket later. I have an amazing number of steps on my phone🙂 mainly from walking to art yesterday, one of the members offered me a lift home which was lovely as it’s all up hill. DH then suggested a sandwich at the local tea shop as he has been stuck in.
Anyway better get dressed as workmen everywhere
Glad your feet are better Marzipan
Best wishes all round
