When a Day Out is a Disappointment

Pollok Country Park in Glasgow is where you can see the award winning Burrell Collection, a magnificent collection of paintings, sculptures, Chinese artifacts, and treasures amassed by shipping magnate Sir William Burrell and his wife. Sadly, these visitors found the experience a let-down, so took to Trip Advisor.

Nothing to do with Paul Burrell or Princess Diana

Review of The Burrell Collection

Reviewed July 14, 2024

Came because we wanted to see the collection of letters, clothes, household items and jewellery the late Princess Diana gave and left her butler and ‘rock’ Paul Burrell. We are big Diana fans and were looking forward for an afternoon of royal magic.

Just so others know - this museum has nothing to do with Lady Di and it is NOT Paul Burrell’s collection of her items. It’s a lovely venue and the tea was nice but it needs to clarify that it has nothing to do with Paul Burrell, Princess Diana or the Royal family so others aren’t disappointed like we were.

Is this a spoof?

Is this a spoof?

Well, it’s been on Trip Advisor for two years!

How very strange 😕

Oh that’s really funny!

Poor couple didnt do due diligence.

I would imagine the collection was a bit “high brow” for them.

😁

They obviously don't do any research beforehand or even use Google!

Perhaps someday some people will visit one of the Tate galleries and write on Trip Advisor that it had nothing to do with Andrew and Tristan Tate.grin

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 22-Sept-26 20:30:03

Odd!

It wouldn't have crossed my mind. Paul Burrell, PD...gifts she left him. Museum, Pollok Country Park Glasgow.
Very amusing.
Not sure it would have crossed the mind of the owners either.

Perhaps it’s a joke no one can be that thick can they ? Or can they

Grantanow Wed 23-Sept-26 09:06:26

Nonsense. It's up to them to find out where they are going.

On a similar theme, I’ve just seen (on Instagram) an elderly British woman complaining that the cafe at Auschwitz doesn’t serve oat milk!! What a disappointment!

Oh this is hilarious. I’ve been to the museum many times which sits in the magnificent setting of Pollock Country Park. A national treasure. One of my favourite places when I’m in Glasgow

It does look a genuine review, of the Burrell Collection - other reviews are of the Pollok Country Park (the surrounding estate), which many Glaswegians visit for a taste of the countryside.

The "wasn't Paul Burrell" review was posted by an 'Emma M' of Whitby, and seems genuine, she has posted 3 reviews in nearly 10 years, the other two were about a trip to Florida, castigating Virgin Airways and the hotel they stayed at in Orlando. Poor soul doesn't seem lucky?

For those who commented "is it a wind up?" -- having dealt with the public for many years, I'm afraid a subset can indeed be THAT dim, at least occasionally.

We went to the Burrell years ago, and it was great, though we thought the exhibit labelling was a bit odd, and items seemed to have been dropped into rooms (and it's a BIG house!) pretty much at random?

Lots of similar reviews from recent times - if you were up there and considering a visit? - and the Museum has helpfully explained that the themes reflect 'subject matter', so items which appear to reflect happiness, or sadness, etc, have been grouped together. Well, it's one way of doing it . . . .

The reviews theme heavily on the failings of the cafe (which of course may have improved since then - but I'd suggest you check before a visit) and even more so about the expensive and rotten car-parking (almost every review of the Park on that topic!").

The car-park is run by the Council, and one way of paying is via the RingGo 'app' (shoule be renamed Ring and Dont Go??), which gets mixed reviews from many locations. I say 'mixed' -- I'm sure that somewhere somebody must have spoken well of it? Or maybe not . . . .but it seems there are reasonable train & bus options, and a free shuttle bus which takes you from the road to the front door.

All the criticism of the expensive parking seem to omit a mention that entry to the Collection is FREE. And it does have a terrific set of items to appreciate.

Wow! That's thick.

Hilarious 🤣🤣

I live about half a mile from Pollok Park and regularly enjoy everything it has to offer, including the Burrell, which has quite recently received a major upgrade. If you don't want to pay for parking, I suggest you park on one of the many streets that surround the park. It's free, and only involves a short walk. There is disabled parking at the Burrell. As for the review, "There's nowt as queer as folk!"

Frogoet Wed 23-Sept-26 16:33:27

Why would anyone want more on Paul Burrell!
Sadly reflects the weirdness that the media promote!

4allweknow Wed 23-Sept-26 16:38:51

Visited a few years ago. Really lovely park and the myseum/gallery is wonderful.

DamaskRose Wed 23-Sept-26 16:45:17

We have just got back from a fantastic day at the Burrell Collection!! It’s wonderful, well spaced out and signed though the labelling was sometimes hard to follow. Pollok park itself is beautiful, Our taxi driver told us that Glasgow has more green spaces than anywhere else in Scotland (UK? I might be wrong there). I’d recommend it to anybody who is interested in culture, there really is something for everybody. As for Princess Di and her butler, thankfully there was not a mention!

No. She's from Whitby!

nexus63 Wed 23-Sept-26 19:52:03

why would it have anything to do with lady di or her butler, the burrell collection opened in 1983, if you had taken the time to look at the website you would not have wasted your day, i had a good laugh at this, it even made the stv scottish news.

paddyann54 Wed 23-Sept-26 21:43:42

Seen all sorts of these reviews on trip advisor.People who were surprised there’s no cafe at the top of Ben Nevis,or “we found Loch Lomond but didn,t find the Bonnie banks, why are there no signposts”
There are pages of them, each one more ridiculous than the next
