Good morning from a grey Bristol.
Yesterday was interesting. The plasterer didn’t come as advised (but as I expected), which was real annoying. This is the third no show. The contractors expect retirees to be sitting in front of daytime tv, in their shawl and slippers, knitting socks for the deserving poor. Ha!
The small residents’ meeting about the gardening was productive. There is no contract apparently, we are meeting the top contractor next week and wanted to establish what was needed/paid for.
Then the PCC was very productive. It rarely takes more than 1 hour, which is a blessing; the comments/discussions are brief and to the point.
Today, FAB cafe for which I made a lemon drizzle and shortbread while waiting for the plasterer. Also managed half my Spanish homework.
In the afternoon, I have a ladies guild meeting in the church hall. These ladies are mostly from the church , so I know them.
bellas, I hope your head had improved, and I was sorry about Alcaraz’ injury.😢
May all your troubles be lifted from you. 🐦‍🔥Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Ashcombe Wed 20-May-26 05:47:48

Good morning from a cloudy Sarthe. It is supposed to become warmer today but I’m not holding my breath!

How annoying regarding the plasterer, grandMattie! I’m glad you were as productive as ever whilst waiting.

Thank you for all the birthday messages. Yesterday was a quiet day although I enjoyed telephone calls from each of my three children, including my DD1 in Australia. My DS is going through a tough time with a break up from his girlfriend and forgot I was in France and had sent flowers to my Torquay address. Luckily, my lovely neighbour spotted them and will enjoy them. She has done a lot for me over the years especially last year when I was in hospital.

It’s a while since we’ve heard from Pantglas and madaleine; I do hope they are well.

Happy hump day!

Good morning from an already sunny Malta where the high is going to be 26°C. It’s windy but for some reason May has always been a windy month here.

I planted my newly purchased plants yesterday and they do look lovely. I just hope I can keep them alive. I tried to pick out varieties I’d had success with previously, they have to tolerate the heat, so fingers crossed. 🤞

This morning I’ve got my nails, toes as well now they are in flip flops most of the time, after which a quick pop to Lidl.

Yum, grandMattie, lemon drizzle is one of my favourites. I used to make a lovely one from a Weight Watchers recipe book but it was so hard not to eat more than I should!

Yes, I’m very sorry Alcaraz is now going to miss the grass season as well due to his wrist injury. I commented on a tennis site on Facebook that I found tennis boring without him and was told I am a ‘boring witch’ and not a proper tennis fan, just an Alcaraz fan. Honestly, there are some unpleasant people about. I never respond as there’s no point arguing with strangers.

I’ve got a scratchy throat and annoying cough which I think may turn into a cold.

Glad you enjoyed chats with your children Ashcombe, a pity about the flowers. It’s so expensive to send them these days but glad they found a worthy recipient.

Yes, it has been far too long without news of madeleine. She wasn’t feeling well, said she had made some decisions and that she would be back. Something is definitely amiss.😞

Wishing you all a good day. ☀️

GrannyGravy13 Wed 20-May-26 06:14:23

Good morning Mick and all 🙋‍♀️

No idea what the weather is like, hopefully warmer.

We are having some blown double glazed window sections replaced today. I am off to my usual gym session.

The 11 yr old is off with his year group to a residential activity centre for three days. He packed (himself) for every weather situation, DD repacked after he went to bed 🫣

Hope your eye is improving corner. Oh dear grandMattie how annoying, and unreliable your plasterer no show! I expect your neighbour was pleased to have your flowers Ashcombe

Hope the Marydolls are ok

(((Hugs))) to all in need 🙋‍♀️

Good morning, it’s very damp here on the hillside in south Glos, I’m grateful for the rain, everything was so dry.
I collected my new-to-me car yesterday, very happy with it. It’s got far fewer bells and whistles, is so easy to drive as automatic and I love the colour, a beautiful shade of orange. Everyone will see me coming!
Today I’m taking my lovely friend out to lunch, I’ve booked a table at a new cafe in the next village, we’ve been there for coffee and they have a delicious sounding menu. Everything is homemade, looking forward to not cooking!
Usual chores this morning, I’m hoping that the washing will dry on the line, it’s not supposed to rain for the next few days.
I hope you all have a lovely day 🌹

Gelisajams Wed 20-May-26 06:31:04

Good morning Mick and all from Scotland’s Book Town. It knows how to rain here though we have still managed to get about.
Yesterday we left DS3 perusing the bookshops while we went off to Whithorn where we spent time in a little Scottish Heritage museum which had a fantastic collection of stone crosses. The visitor guide gave us detailed and interesting explanations on each artifact. We went in separately as Crazy dog wasn’t allowed in so the poor woman had to repeat herself. We then went on to St Ninians chapel but the caves which we visited years ago have collapsed, and are now inaccessible.
In the afternoon I took DS3 into the Gem museum. I think he preferred the cafe although he has quite a collection of gemstones and usually wants more. . We are heading back today and now the holiday is over we need to have a good talk about his future. He manages independently but being autistic he does have some problems with life!
Belated Birthday wishes Ash and glad your DH got the all clear.
Take care everyone. flowers

Good morning from an overcast Black Country, where the predicted rain never happened yesterday.

Visit to the Cinema yesterday to see The Housemaid, was very good if a tad gruesome in parts. Before hand I had to nip to M&S which is very near the Cinema. Had spoken to Mum in the morning to remind her that her Day Centre day was Tuesday instead of Wednesday (She has a Covid Jab today). She said she couldn't find any of her Pants! So I bought a pack, and will take over today. I am wondering where on earth I may find them?

So over to Mums today for her jab. Beforehand I am popping in to see a friend for a chat and cuppa. She used to be my Manager in my last job, and lives not far from Mum.

Gosh gM it seems nothing goes right as regards to maintenance being done, not very professional, how they justify the fees is beyond me!

Wishing you all the best day possible

Grandmabatty Wed 20-May-26 06:35:21

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 11° and cloudy. Bellasnana I make Mary Berry's tray bake lemon drizzle and it has never failed me yet. GrandMattie I know you expected it but 3 no shows is ridiculous.
Ashcombe how lovely to hear from all your children.
Yesterday went well. The boys watched a documentary about venomous snakes and then drew snakes in the kitchen. Dgs2 got very upset as he cut off a bit of his snake when cutting it out. Dgs1 helped him out and consoled him. It was nice to see as often dgs1 winds his wee brother up. After l dropped them off, I pottered about. I went to Aldi to replenish the strawberries and juice stocks before I collected them from school.
I had enough energy left once I'd deposited them home to tidy up the mayhem and make macaroni cheese for dinner. Sadly it was not a great success and the remains will go in the bin.
Today is a quiet day. No plans at all. I will wash the floors and do some art work and maybe some cross stitch. Dinner will be veggie burger and chips. Have a good day all.

hollysteers Wed 20-May-26 06:51:02

Good morning from a brightening northwest coast.
A good turnout at the music club yesterday, although it means fewer songs to sing for me as we go round, particularly as one guitarist has to chat away for a while before he sings🙄
A couple flounced out before we started as someone was playing the piano and the husband was tuning up…

I then picked up my complicated prescription contact lenses. One set for reading music and one for distance. I had an online big shop delivered as my shingles outbreak has made me feel under the weather.

Off soon for a scan on my bad shoulder and neck, so this is early for me.
The usual opera co rehearsal tonight.

I’m glad you are happy with your colourful cat RosesandLilac and thoughts to all🌺

hollysteers Wed 20-May-26 06:52:02

Colourful car!

monk08 Wed 20-May-26 06:56:42

Good morning all from an overcast Black country, NannyJan we had lots of rain this side must have had your share 😀.
Today is toddlers and then I shall pick up new phone which has now arrived.
We have a meal planned later DH has a voucher for a free one at the local harvester so no cooking yippee.
grandMattie how annoying yet again the plasterer fails to show.
Will catch up with everybody's happenings later.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans, and may you all find a little bit of ☀️.

Greyduster Wed 20-May-26 07:03:48

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where the sun is shining but it’s chilly.

Yesterday at school one of my year 3 readers told me they had been “testing” baby food in their science lesson as they are learning all about how to look after babiesconfused. She said “Honestly, I don’t know how they can eat it - it’s disgusting!” I think she thought they came off milk straight onto chicken nuggets😂!

Another came with a book on Anglo Saxons and we delved into BC and AD dates and why they were called Anglo Saxons (you would think that a book on Anglo Saxons would explain that, but no) and didn’t get much of the book read. I told her that in a village not far from the school, after a battle with the Northumbrians, King Ecgbert was declared the overlord of all England. There is a stone and plaque that marks the spot. We were truly going down a rabbit hole by this time! Good job she was the last reader. I do like it when I get a child with an insatiable curiosity. For them, reading is not a chore and a book is a tool, not just a book.

This morning, I have an another meeting with my FA to sign papers. This afternoon, writers group at the library.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Greyduster Wed 20-May-26 07:06:27

Hollysteers I hope you feel better soon. Shingles takes some getting over.

Jaxjacky Wed 20-May-26 07:10:15

Morning from S Hants, we have high cloud, Mr J working so the alarm did its duty.
Yesterday was a walk, cupboard tidy and quick vacuum.
Pleased you like your car R&L sounds very snazzy.
When I heard about Alvarez I thought of you Bellas.
I hope your eye is settling corner.
Have a good day all

Redcar Wed 20-May-26 07:17:42

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Signs of a light shower overnight and broken cloud this morning. Yesterday’s few showers only dampened the ground unfortunately, so the watering can will be in use today.
I saw my dementia friend in the afternoon, she was very quiet apart from snoring when she went to sleep. Her DH is grateful for some company so we spend the time chatting.
I have seated yoga this morning, which will be challenging, but good to meet up with friends.

grandmattie how frustrating that the plasterer didn’t turn up yesterday. I hope the FAB cafe is enjoyable today.

rosesandlilac it’s so good that you’re enjoying driving your “new” car! I hope your lunch out today lives up to expectations and you have a good chat with your friend.

ash how nice to hear from all your children and that you had a enjoyable birthday. I hope your neighbour enjoys your flowers!

Thinking of our friends with challenges, and those who aren’t posting at the moment.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Marzipan22 Wed 20-May-26 07:22:55

Good morning from a very mild, almost balmy, drizzly Cornwall. Yesterday my daughter-in-law and I wrestled for an inordinate amount of time with an old rocking horse, trying to release it from its stand so that it would tuck into a corner of her lounge. The bolts were very long and very rusted but she and I never give up and after much laughter we did it. At which point we agreed there were a hundred more useful things we could have been doing. 😂

Today I must sort out assistance for my upcoming trip to Liverpool as my hands find the suitcase hard to grip. A very helpful, dogged station guard worked out a split ticket for me, costing £87 return instead of £160. Crazily cheap for a seven-hour journey! Lunchtime I have my church home group to go to and afterwards a heavy parcel to collect from Argos. I'll take a bin bag and drag it from the shop to the bus stop if necessary... 😄

Gagagran Wed 20-May-26 07:27:03

Good morning all from the central south coast where the sun is now out and trying to dry up overnight rain puddles.

The weather was most obliging yesterday. It dried up to allow our dry wander through the garden centre and the ensuing planting of purchases. Then we had rain overnight to bed them in. A very pleasing task and especially as I found a black eyed suzie (Thunbergia). I had been waiting for them to come in to the garden centre. I grow it up a drainpipe which I see from the kitchen window and it flowers all summer.

Today DH is out on his usual cycle ride with his club and I shall get my choir music sorted ready for this evening. I am hoping that I can manage the uncomfortable chairs by taking cushions and using a music stand for my music folder. It is very heavy with the whole programme's music inside, in running order. My damaged arm doesn't like holding it at all!

Still no sign of our patio furniture - like your elusive plasterer GM and I suspect we shall have to demand a refund and reorder somewhere else. I hesitate to name the company but this is not the first time we have had delivery problems with them.

Thinking as always of all our GNs with troubles or worries of any kind and hoping for a better day for them all. sunshine

ginny Wed 20-May-26 07:27:14

Good morning.
Today I have a hair appointment late morning. Before that some ironing and a few plants to be planted.
This afternoon we shall collect youngest DGS from school and take him home . His brother walks home with friends so will meet us there. Well stay for a couple of hours until their parents get home.
Swishing g all a good day with a smile along the way.

kittylester Wed 20-May-26 07:28:19

Good morning all from a cloudy North Leicestershire.

Our cleaner is due first thing and DH will go to the gym. We are eating at a restaurant in the village this evening.

DD2 had her gall bladder removed yesterday afternoon and was home by 8pm. She seems to have slept well.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Gingster Wed 20-May-26 07:31:37

Good morning and it looks like it’s rained quite heavily over night here in Essex.

I’m too concerned about Madeleine. Is there any way we can find out?

Thoroughly cleaned my kitchen cupboards yesterday and I’ll carry on today with my one room a day deep clean.

I’ll go up to town and pop into the bank, M and s and QD. A very useful shop for anything.

I’m not meeting my friend today for coffee as she has offered to help at the church coffee morning.

Dh is going out with his ‘bestie’. .

Hope your eye feels better Cornergran, eyes are so precious.
Your DH’s too Sar. 👀.

Take care all 🌺

brook2704 Wed 20-May-26 07:33:57

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s dry with a few white clouds
I’m off to the gym today, a couple of good classes then a coffee with pals then I need to pop into town this afternoon to get a few things for our upcoming holiday. Out again tonight to my line dancing class and then that’s it for a while.
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

dragonfly46 Wed 20-May-26 07:34:01

Good morning from a brightish Leicestershire.

We are chugging down the motorway to swap the dog over at the services.
I have just remembered I have an Ocado delivery today so DH will stay here or I will leave a note to say leave it behind the side gate.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

BlueSapphire Wed 20-May-26 07:37:01

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton.

Yesterday the rain held off until evening so I was able to get out with my walking group; we had a lovely surprise en route; someone had made the most beautiful and magical fairy garden in the woods that we walk through; trees surrounded by flowers, toadstools, solar lights; little butterflies, models of rabbits, squirrels and birds. Also a fairy grotto big enough to go into, and a proper winding footpath with stepping stones. My photos don't do it justice. It's so kind of whoever made it.

A few things to do around the house this morning, then a Sainsbury's delivery at mid-day. I will have a late lunch/early dinner. Then DS-in-law will pick me up as DD is hosting our ladies' wine club this evening; I will stay there overnight.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

luluaugust Wed 20-May-26 07:44:53

Good morning from a sunny W Kent. Small art group this morning and catch up with all the news.
Yesterday turned into a good news/bad news day. The good news DGS2 and partner are choosing a venue for a wedding next year. Bad news DSIL was admitted to hospital when his insulin pump didn’t work properly. A restless night here
I hope the plasterer turns up soon gM
Best wishes all round
