Good Morning Monday 18th May 2026
(50 Posts)Good morning from a cloudy corner of La Sarthe. Yesterday we had quite a few showers but some late afternoon sunshine which enabled us to sit outside.
In the afternoon, I rang an old friend who has Parkinson’s and is pretty much housebound as his wife died last year. He was very interested to hear about our cruise as he worked for General Motors and was based in that region of Germany for a while.
DH has an appointment for a scan this morning following prostate treatment more than 10 years ago. He hasn’t slept too well inevitably.
I hope Bellasnana has recovered from her head injury and others with ailments find relief.
Have a good day. 💐🦩💐🥰💐
Good morning from Zakynthos
We had such a long day yesterday. We were up at 1.30 for an early flight which was very smooth. Our accommodation is beautiful. I am now looking forward to a day of nothing, although we are going for a stroll this morning to get our bearings
Take care everyone
Good morning from Malta where it’s cloudy at present but we are promised a sunny day with a high of 25°C.
Thank you all so much for your kind words and understanding yesterday.
DD3 did not pick the boys up until 11am by which time I was flagging. I don’t think she understood the enormity of it nor how terrified I was that if I had passed out the boys would have been alone not knowing what to do.
Anyway, I took your advice and went back to bed, definitely suffering from delayed shock, got up later and had a shower and watched the Men’s Final from Rome. Then back to bed by 9pm.
Safe travels today for FGT. I’m pretty sure all of us are going to be with you in spirit. I think you are very brave indeed. I remember going to Rome on my own a year after DH died, I was determined to visit the places we had enjoyed so much together, it was hard but I was glad I did it and I hoped he would have been proud of me as I’m sure Himself would be at the way you are coping. Big hugs .🤗
Marydoll your flowers look absolutely beautiful, you really are talented in so many ways.
I hope all goes well for Oldd’s scan, Ashcombe. No wonder he’s been anxious.
Enjoy your holiday Melanie. It sounds lovely.
Wishing a good day to all, health to the poorly and strength to those who are struggling to cope. ☀️
Good morning from a sodden Bristol. It must have rained all night, and today is promising to be the same.
ash, all the best to oldd. I hope bellas is ok after yesterday’s knock on the head.
Yesterday was long. I got to the church hall early, to take in any food to be delivered for the bring and share lunch. Then, immediately after the service, I rushed back to help set up, as the children had been using the hall for Junior church. A bare 30 minutes later, there was the PCC AGM. Fortunately, the back leads a very tight ship and it was over quickly. Rushed back to the hall to finish setting up and eat.
The hall had been booked for 2 pm, so we had to do all the washing up for 50 odd and get everything tidied up before then.
Interestingly, normally there is a great deal of food to eat and left over. Yesterday, it seemed sparse but enough for everyone. I think we also had several people who just turned upon spec.
As usual, not being terribly good in crowds, I did most of the washing up, with the help of a few others. We were done just after 1300; pretty good!
I had over 20 tea towels to wash, which I did. They were on the line very soon…
Unfortunately, I need to go to the supermarket, but my neighbour’s car is still out of action. I would walk there again, but really don’t want to get so wet. I’ll probably get an Uber there and back if necessary. 🤨
This afternoon is the first meeting of our new 🐦🔥 Women’s Association. I hope it goes well as so much angst has been felt and a lot of work to make it successful!
All the best to everyone for a new week.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
Just seen your post, bellas. Glad that all is now well.
Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s raining. I’m off to the airport, taxi booked for 7am and the BBC website is showing big fat sunshines and 29°C in Málaga for the first ten days of my holiday.
Thanks to all you wonderful peeps for caring so much.
I’m pleased to say that strangely I’m not so anxious as I thought I’d be this morning. Perhaps I’ve been overthinking all this.
Anyway I’ll pop a quick post on later from the airport when hopefully my digital boarding pass has allowed me through Security!
Good morning from Plataniás, Crete.
We have been here since Thursday. Don't think this will be an especially memorable holiday. We are at the very far end of the resort, 5km from the centre. The hotel is quite small but fine but we are in the middle of nowhere. The beach is mediocre and its very scrubby. There are 2 small beach restaurants close by, both with only outside seating. Whilst sunny, its incredibly windy reaching 30mph at times. The locals are hating the wind. Daytime temps are about 22-23⁰ during tge day. I should have done more research before booking. We will take a taxi to Chania town at some point.
How frightening for you and the twins having that fall Bella. I hope you recover quickly.
Best wishes for your DH's scan Ash.
I very much liked your photos from China WhiteSwan. What a holiday. It must have been lovely to see your family.
Have a good day everyone.
You will be relieved to hear that I’ve just heard from fgt, who is taking her taxi imminently. She says she is calm and much less emotional about her trip.
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where we have sunshine at the moment. It is not forecast to last.
DS and DiL came yesterday. We had a lovely lunch and hoped to get out for a walk afterwards but the heavens had opened while we were eating and it didn’t stop all afternoon. DS was telling me that he turned into a bit of a bird watcher while they were away in Scotland recently but his compact binoculars were not cutting the mustard. It seemed the right time to give him a pair of mine that had been gathering dust in the top of the wardrobe. They are very good ones but rather heavy for me these days. He was thrilled to bits. It’s been a waste not to have them used. I’m happy to use DH’s old ones which he had permanently slung around his neck. They connect me to him somehow.
No idea what will be on the cards today. I’m still umming and ahhing about a new lawn mower, so will think a bit more about that today. Just as I think I’ve made up my mind, something or someone comes along to change it!
Melanie enjoy the sunshine! You’re not missing a thing here this week😁!
Have the best day you can, folks.
Good morning Mick and all from Morecambe Bay where it’s currently raining heavily. It’s DS 3’s birthday today so we are taking him to Scotland for a couple of days. Despite his difficulties he’s an avid reader so we are going to Scotland’s book town. Hopefully the weather there is better than here.
A walk for Crazy dog then we will set off. We have meal booked for his birthday tea.
I understand the anxiety Ash DH gets 6 monthly checks following his prostrate op. Hope all is well.
Thinking of all with troubles.
Take care.
Morning Mick, morning All from a chilly, wet corner of Somerset.
A change of plan today. My injected eye became increasingly painful yesterday, ever the optimist I convinced myself and Mr C all would be well this morning. Nope, I’ll call the number I have for concerns and suspect it will mean a trip into the eye hospital. All very odd as the injection was ten days ago. I’m thankful for the backup available.
Other than that yesterday was positive, caught up with a lot of admin, Mr C ironed before falling asleep in the conservatory, the warmest place as the sun had emerged.
Safe landings fgt.
Best wishes to all, have the best day you can everyone.
Sorry, fgt. Hadn’t seen your post and knew posters were anxious for you. Hugs ❤️🤗
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 7° and its damp, if not actually raining. Fgt, safe journey to Spain and well done. Bellasnana I'm glad you are recovering.
Yesterday was a quiet day, as expected. I pottered about and finally got the ironing done and put away.
Today I didn't have to get up as early as I usually do on Mondays. Dsil still isn't great so decided to take the boys to school and go back to bed. I'll pick them up later. I will go to the school library beforehand. I might wash the floors this morning but that is probably foolish as the boys will be here this afternoon. Spicy chicken for dinner. Enjoy your day all
Good morning from a bright, sunny S E Essex, we have showers forecast…
Gym this morning, then going to watch the 11yr old, performing in a concert this afternoon. All part of the post-SATS activities and winding down for leaving Primary school 😿
(((Hugs))) to all in need
Good morning from Leamington, my last morning here.
DD1 has to take S to Heartlands Hospital for her Biologic injection soon. When she returns she will take me to the station for my long journey home.
It's been an interesting week but I'm looking forward to seeing DH this afternoon.
I'm a bit worried how I'm going to cope with my suitcase with the fragile state of my back. Two long train journeys with a ride across London on the tube in the middle, very carefully me thinks.
Safe travels to FGT, we are all with you in spirit.
I hope you all have a pleasant start to the week, best wishes to all xx
Good morning everyone from a cloudy Northampton, thundery showers forecast today. Yesterday's rain held off and I got two loads of washing dry.
Yoga this morning, and not sure what I'm doing the rest of the day.
Glad you are feeling better after your nasty accident, Bellasnana.
Thinking of FGT2 as she heads off towards Malaga; it's something that has to be done and, remembering the first holiday I had after DH died, I shall be thinking of her. "All will be well, and all will be well."
Wishing all a pleasant day.
Good morning, it’s drizzling here in south Glos, everything looks very wet so we’ve obviously had a good soaking overnight.
The tagine I made yesterday was delicious! There’s plenty left for today and I will put some in the freezer.
DH mowed the lawns yesterday, the garden is looking good. My roses are the best I’ve ever seen them despite being more or less neglected.
Housework today, it’s going to be a wet couple of days but I have plenty to keep me busy.
Take care x
🌹
Good morning Mick and everyone from damp, grey Carlisle.
I have had DS2 and DiL here for a few days and we have been out and about around the city and the Lakes. They are in the UK on a whirlwind tour from Australia, seeing friends and relatives. A pity they didn't put it back a week, the weather is due to improve shortly!
Lovely to see them if only for a short time. Now to start planning my trip out there for next year.
Today will be piles of laundry day! Never mind, it's the machine doing it, not me. I'm hoping the weather will be good enough for me to get outside and plant some of the things sitting around in pots.
Later, I will carry on with the new book I've started.
Have the best possible day everyone.
Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s sunny at the moment, showers are forecast but may not materialise! Yesterday was another dry day and just slightly less cold. DD2 and family called in on their way home from a visit to a nearby shopping outlet, but didn’t stay long. I vacuumed the whole house and did some ironing and nothing else.
Thinking of fgt this morning, hope the journey goes smoothly and you have as good a time as possible with your friends in Spain.
bellasnana I hope you continue to feel better today.
ashcombe fingers crossed for a good outcome from your DH’s scan today, and cornergran I hope you can get some relief from your sore eye today.
sar I hope you have a smooth journey home and that your back doesn’t cause too many problems.
Thinking of all those struggling with life’s challenges and hoping there’s some relief today.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning from a sunny W Kent. Cleaner this morning and ironing for me. A walk later if the weather holds.
Best wishes for travels and appointments
Good morning all. As usual bright and sunny with a chill.
We keep being forecast rain, but nothing happens here in Essex. It seems some of you have our quota as well as your own.☔️.
Yesterday DGD returned so I will do the school runs. Hopefully Dd will be recovered enough in the next few days to do it.
Next week is half term so we’ll plod on until then. DGD is going to stay with her sister in Southampton , a few days , so that will be fun for her.
Today I must order new eye drops and then a hair appointment.
Fgt trouble free journey for you 🤞.
Sar you too. Hope your back holds out. Would an Uber across London help out!
Take care and enjoy the day if you can.🌺
Good morning from a slightly warmer Leicestershire.
We seemed to miss most of the rain yesterday and the garden is very dry.
A quick to Waitrose and dog walking today.
Safe journey FGT.
Wishing everyone the best day possible.
Good Morning all from a bright and dry central south coast 9 degrees on the garden thermometer. We are promised light showers throughout the day with a very slow warming up this week.
Had a lovely breakfast meeting with DD and soon to be DSiL yesterday. They have been together since meeting as students in 1996 and have had a really firm and happy relationship from day one. They told us yesterday that they are getting "hitched" in a Civil Ceremony in December (there is a waiting list for slots apparently) with just their two offspring as witnesses. They recently changed their wills and received strong advice to do so for tax purposes.
I am very pleased indeed even though I shan't be the "mother of the bride" she told me - in fact there will be no guests - it's just a technical confirmation of what has been the case for the last 30 years!
Good luck to oldDDS and his scan appointment Ash. He gave me reassuring advice about it when DD underwent the same op. in 2021. Much appreciated at the time when we were in the midst of DH's cancer treatments and other subsequent surgeries.
Thankfully he survived it all and is now 83 and still cycling 50 or 60 miles twice a week. My DsiL-to- be said only yesterday that DH didn't realise how very ill he was at that time. (He was a consultant at the hospital where DH was treated). DH never admits to any illness or pain - he is stoicism personified!
Today the delayed bin collection is expected. For the last three weeks they have just not turned up after years of excellent reliable service. They were due last Thursday . No explanation given but told to "leave the bin out".
The other news we got yesterday related to the missing patio furniture which is now, supposedly, re-scheduled for delivery this week. We'll see!
Thinking of FGT on her first solo trip back to their happy place and the plane will be crowded with GNs going with her in spirit! Suspect Himself will be there too.
Kind thoughts to all in need and hope the day brings some comfort and ease from burdens and troubles
.
Good morning from Shropshire.Dry at the moment with rain forecast but who knows as the forecast has been wrong for weeks.
Yesterday was a lovely day.DH worked hard in the garden which is looking very smart! He got the beans planted and the bean poles up and dug the last of the leeks which we enjoyed for our evening meal.
Today we are off to Staffordshire to collect DGS1 from school.
Safe travels all on the move with special thoughts to FGT, our warrior woman as my DD’s would call you💪
Hope olddudders scan goes well and glad you are feeling better Bellasnana.Hopefully your SIL will see some improvement with the new meds today Grandmabatty.
Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌷
