Can't unwind tonight
(47 Posts)That's the booze kicking in and feel quite tipsy now. Hope to nod off soon
Good, jordana. I hope reading this didn't wake you up again! I just wanted to let you know that there's a GN support thread for the sleepless if you need it:

I never go to bed before midnight, so I'm obviously still wide awake! Sweet dreams.
I'm also a post midnight go to bedder. Hope you manage to knock yourself out jordana.
I know I won’t sleep tonight as I don’t sleep most nights. DH is away, my night sweats are driving me nuts, I’m feeling sad and miserable and the wind is wild so the blinds are rattling.... what a life eh?
Gillybob, sorry you are not feeling good. I can empathise with you being sad and miserable.
Try and get some rest.
After three weeks in two hospitals, much of that time in intensive care, my BIL, who was discharged (far too soon) on Thursday, was rushed back in tonight.
We won't sleep, as we are now so programmed to rushing there in the middle of the night for the latest crisis, as his wife is not coping. We now leave our clothes laid out in the spare room to save time.
What a life, indeed!
I'm off to read a book.
DGS 3 is having a sleepover. He has ADHD so has just gone to sleep. The wind is blowing things around outside, and I'm still awake. I don't think much sleep will be achieved here as I'll be keeping half an ear open for grandson.
Afraid didn't nod off. In spare room now and just trying to relax by reading. Sleep must be harder to achieve for lots of grans.. one reason or another
been a strange day I've been very emotional and spent a fair bit of it in tears.Usually theres a reason ,a birthday or anniversary but unless I've forgotten something and its stuck in my subconscious then I cant think of anything. No sleep last night ,was chatting online to my daughter from 2ish until after 6am..hoping to get some sleep tonight.Large brandy on hand here to help
Another one wide awake here. I did laugh about the Baileys, Jordana, and was thinking I should get some, but then you came back, still awake. Yes what is it? I was awake till 7 am a couple of weeks ago. More than anything it gets so boring. After a certain point I just don’t feel like reading and I know ipadding is not conducive to sleep but it’s better than just lying there.
Sorry you feel sad, Paddyann. Maybe you’ve had the brandy by now?
Marydoll, so sorry to hear the latest about your BIL. Worrying for you all and no wonder you can't sleep.
Hilda, that’s so late for GS to be awake. You must feel worn out.
We should be on the other thread really. May cross over if I stay awake.
Hope we all get some ?
I'm up late most nights (mornings). I don't know why it's such a big deal to sleep at night unless you really have to get up for work or something important in the morning. I used to record something on TV that was on early in the evening and if I watched it later it felt like that time. Then I would go to bed thinking it was earlier. I think I was psychologically tricking my brain into believing I had actually had more sleep so I didn't feel tired.
Now I'm retired I just don't go to bed when I'm not tired. I tiddle about on the laptop eg on here, read, do jobs or watch amazingly silly things on TV. Actually I have just watched 'Look Back in Anger' - brilliant! Wasn't Richard Burton gorgeous in his youth?! A glass of sherry or two also helps me to sleep because it dehydrates and I don't have to keep getting up for a wee!
If I can I fit in a quick nap in the day half an hour usually covers for several hours in the night. Yes I'm definitely an owl not a lark!
Commiserations to those of you that have real worries that keep you awake. I have been there too and stopping those thoughts is much harder to do.
Contrary to what is said my iPad with games do make me tired I also have the radio on low and that gives me interest if awake and sends me off quite often.
I go t sleep in minutes but often wake after a couple of hours feeling as bright as a button So quite often my night is stop and go 2 hours sleep and hour awake two hours sleep etc a sort of bunny hopping However I never feel bothered by it unless I have a wake night because of brain spin
My sympathy to all who sleep badly. Its just awful.
I am now on prescribed sleeping pills but i still wake through the night and wake up exhausted. What to do?
And i Cant ever nap in the day unlike dh who can fall asleep in a moment, and he sleeps well every night too. Grrr
Well ladies I did get a few hours sleep eventually and feel much better today. I definately felt odd last night but after giving it some thought, I realise that the weather can affect me. Not just my mood but physically too. Wet and damp make my bones ache. Wind, especially strong, makes me feel unsettled and nervy. I know I am sadder at times if it's oppressive. Do others feel similar?
DH is just like you when it’s windy Jordana. It makes him really tense and irritable. I’m not sure about the achey bones - I think mine ache all the time. The springtime sun is what I love best. It really lifts my spirits. I don’t think weather systems affect sleep one way or the other though. I think I got off some time after 4 this morning and woke around 8. I haven’t felt tired though. Wide awake now. I’ll just go with it. Nothing planned for the morning anyway.
Hi everyone is anyone near south wirral under 55 I’m not a gran but an older mum 45 I’m new to the Wirral and would be keen to meet up with ladies of similar interests and age hope to hear from you x
I also have terrible insomnia but I think it’s the Meet mind that isn’t in a happy place so subconsciously it’s telling you this at night by not letting you sleep
Why not try Mumsnet? They would be nearer your age. Good luck.
I sometimes cannot get to sleep until about 4am, put it down to playing too much online scrabble making my mind too active.
By the way sorry for referring to you as Belladonna as I said in another post to you I need to go to specsavers.
So do I, then Seonaid, as I didn’t even notice!
I hope you are asleep by now. I’m just going to read for a bit and hope I start to feel sleepy.
I'm awake and have too much on my mind to get to sleep easily tonight. I have a very large family and at any given time there seems to be someone in crisis, but when, as now, two or three come at once I end up feeling slightly overwhelmed. Add to that my work with homeless people who are not the easiest individuals to work with and you see the source of my many sleepless nights.
I have just had a night like that. No worries or problems to bother me, went to bed as usual, around 10.00pm, but couldn't settle. I felt 'wired'. I was fidgeting and my mind was whizzing like a windmill. Tried reading, but my eyes were here there and everywhere. Finally got up at 1.00am and tried the 'start going to bed again process'. Read for an hour, had a sandwich and a hot drink. Still mind and body bouncing.
Finally did the solution of last resort. A large slug of alcohol (Bailey's, which I do not like). Finally got to sleep about 3.00. Turned the alarm off, but still woke at 7.00am.
After my Tai Chi class this afternoon, I went out like a light for an hour with my head on the kitchen table
Yes sometimes that happens monies. Wired up or just can't seem to nod off. I still think weather has an effect at times. Bailleys ( I prefer aldis Irish cream) is nice
The other thing that can affect sleep is the phase of the moon. It is close to full moon at present, which is when the moon is most likely to affect sleep negatively.

In addition, for me, when the moon is bright and the sky is cloudless the moon is often on the side of the house my bedroom window is. Last night I did drift off slightly at one point but when I drifted up again, the light outside was so bright I thought it was morning so snapped to.
