Reading all your posts while I’m struggling to stay awake due to jet lag. I’m usually a bad sleeper to, I never go to bed before midnite and I always need to read for 30 mins to free my mind then when I’m feeling sleepy book goes down light off and asleep I go. Insomnia runs in my family, my dad and DD suffered/ suffer from it. Body exhausted, mind still buzzing around like crazy. I’ve read that there is a special lamp that you can get to help for it and the reviews are good I think it’s called a “ moon lamp”.

The only way I can get any sleep is to use sleep guided meditation.
Not meditation music- that actually winds me up!

I personally Google Jason Stevenson's guided sleep meditation on my pad and use one side of an ear piece (not to disturb my sleeping like a baby DH)

Depending how anxious I'm feeling I choose either a guided meditation for sleep or
one for anxiety issues. (There are several to choose from).

It took me a about a week of using every night before I finally got the hang of it.
The ones I listen to are on YouTube and last about 30 minutes, my pad (Amazon) switches off after a few minutes of no activity.

My sleep problems came with the menopause.
I can't have HRT .
Lack of sleep was having a detrimental affect on me.
The meditation has helped me considerably.
I am prone to night sweats, that wake me and returning to sleep was virtually impossible.
So I switch on my pad and usually get back to sleep until the next hot flush.sad

Melatonin levels dropped during the days surrounding the full moon, with nighttime melatonin levels at their lowest on full-moon nightsOverall sleep time also dropped to their lowest levels—an average of 20 minutes less sleep—on nights with a full moon.

Very interesting. I must try and krep track of moon

I reckon it could be GNHQ trying to encourage local meets.

Time for my audiobook. Night all. ??

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 02:28:56

Right.. I'm going to lay down and try to sleep. Without brushing my teeth.. sweet dreams all.

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 02:19:56

Fear of missing out? Yes, I suppose you could say that, the way I keep flitting off to the kitchen to check the fridge. grin

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 02:18:50

I dunno who sent it. Its above where I'm inserting my text to reply to you.

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 30-Jan-18 02:17:34

FOMO means fear of missing out.

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 30-Jan-18 02:16:18

Now chopping on cookies. grin

Who sent you the ad MissA?

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 02:11:29

I have a huge ad for 'meetup'. It says FOMO no mo' and invites me to start up my own meetup.
What on earth does it mean?!

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 02:07:26

Well, when you've been awake a long time it feels like there should be another meal, somewhere. smile

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 30-Jan-18 02:05:32

Stop talking about food. I don't want to get up to get some, but you're making me feel hungry. ?

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 01:54:42

I've got a hot chocolate and a seedy flatbread thingy with marmalade on. Then i'll be needing to brush my teeth, and that will wake me up!

Bellanonna Tue 30-Jan-18 01:51:47

Go for it MA. I’m battling with the idea but just a bit too lazy to go downstairs.

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 01:47:12

Nope. Willpower just trickled away. Toast and coffee (followed by indigestion, no doubt)

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 01:38:52

I'm hungry. I ate healthily today, now I'm ravenous!

wot Tue 30-Jan-18 01:36:41

I take Zopliclone and it makes me sleepy for about an hour. If I don't settle down within that time, my mind's buzzing again. I had to watch Jeremy Paxmans Victorians tonight. Turned light off and was wide awake. I'm going downstairs to toast a muffin. I don't mind being awake but usually end up useless the next day! Worrying about how much coal I'm getting through at the moment.......... Far too expensive and house is freezing by morning. Groan....

My flat has a sensor light outside the bathroom: the council very kindly fitted it directly above my bathroom window. Its been malfunctioning for weeks, aside from the fact that its ridiculously bright. So, it pulses on/off every 30 seconds, and lights up the whole flat. Its like being at a rave (so I would imagine) wink

Bellanonna Tue 30-Jan-18 01:30:39

I often do that, and keep instant decaf especially for those times. I hope you get to sleep soon. Someone posted a link to an article about how the full moon can affect sleep - nothing to do with its light shining.

MissAdventure Tue 30-Jan-18 01:25:46

I'm awake too. Got a horrible headache, and I would really like a cup of coffee. And a biscuit, actually.

Bellanonna Tue 30-Jan-18 01:19:58

I think Zopiclone works once you want it to, I.e. once the light is out and you close your eyes. It’s horrible being awake Maw and you will have lots of thoughts going on. I wish you a decent night’s sleep once you get off.

MawBroon Tue 30-Jan-18 01:13:38

Wide awake - hearing the owls hooting outside. Even taken a “Dopeyclone” (Zopiclone) but no difference.
Ah well.

The other thing that can affect sleep is the phase of the moon. It is close to full moon at present, which is when the moon is most likely to affect sleep negatively.

www.psychologytoday.com/blog/sleep-newzzz/201308/is-the-moon-affecting-your-sleep

In addition, for me, when the moon is bright and the sky is cloudless the moon is often on the side of the house my bedroom window is. Last night I did drift off slightly at one point but when I drifted up again, the light outside was so bright I thought it was morning so snapped to.

jordana Mon 29-Jan-18 20:16:32

Yes sometimes that happens monies. Wired up or just can't seem to nod off. I still think weather has an effect at times. Bailleys ( I prefer aldis Irish cream) is nice

M0nica Mon 29-Jan-18 17:29:58

I have just had a night like that. No worries or problems to bother me, went to bed as usual, around 10.00pm, but couldn't settle. I felt 'wired'. I was fidgeting and my mind was whizzing like a windmill. Tried reading, but my eyes were here there and everywhere. Finally got up at 1.00am and tried the 'start going to bed again process'. Read for an hour, had a sandwich and a hot drink. Still mind and body bouncing.

Finally did the solution of last resort. A large slug of alcohol (Bailey's, which I do not like). Finally got to sleep about 3.00. Turned the alarm off, but still woke at 7.00am.

After my Tai Chi class this afternoon, I went out like a light for an hour with my head on the kitchen table
