Dealing with my Husband's death

My DH died on Christmas eve. Forgive me for writing this down but I feel I'm going to burst. We were going to his daughters funeral, but he had a mini stroke they think, the next day he had a brainstem infarction rendering him with locked in syndrome. He knew what was going on but could only move his eyes. He then died on Sunday morning. I feel I'm living in a bad dream. I have a loving family and friends, and as for the Hotels I stayed in and the Hospital, people went above and beyond. But I'm feeling so alone.

I am so sorry to hear your very sad and heartbreaking news.
I cannot begin imagine how you are feeling, or find suitable words of comfort, but there are many here on GN, who have experienced such terrible sorrow and be assured, we are all here to support you.

So very sorry to read your sad news grannyjillyt, please accept all the comfort you can from family & friends, it feels of little help when you are at rock bottom, but you will need them there , even if only for the practical reasons, let them do what they can .my sincere sympathy to you.

What a terrible thing to happen to you, there are no words that will help at the moment, just take it a day..or an hour at a time until you feel able to face it all.Let your family gather round you and help all they can and dont feel you have to stay strong, lean on others when you need to.Take care and be kind to yourself .

So, so sad to hear this. A double blow. The only thing to do is take an hour or two at a time. I do hope you have happy memories to take out of the memory bank and you had a few hours to say your goodbyes. Let people help you, they will want to. Keep posting here. There are some lovely people with wise words.

rascal Thu 28-Dec-17 22:23:53

I am so sorry Grannyjilly, the worst thing imaginable. I feel I can understand a bit of how you feel, just numb, as similar happened to me. I still really can't believe it even although it happen a few years ago. I found just trying to cope with a day at a time and not thinking about the big picture was perhaps the best way. It certainly took time to try to come to terms with the worst day of my life. If there is anything I could reassure you with please just get in touch. Thinking about you at this difficult time. flowers
