The right to bare arms!

It seems to be accepted that the more mature amongst us should wear garments which cover our upper arms- not always too comfortable in this hot and humid weather.
When I'm on my own, I have been doing my housework in singlet and shorts, 'cos there's no one around to see my crepey arms and 'bingo wings'. In fact, with doors locked and curtains drawn I have pottered round my flat in the 'altogether' which is very cool and pleasant.
I have to say, tho', that after an uncomfortable occurrence this morning, I do NOT recommend naked ironing! shock

There does indeed seem to be an assumption that as one grows old, upper arms should be covered. I don't give a fig, and go sleeveless as, when and where I feel like it.
It's just nonsense.

Don't iron in the nude though - steam could be a problem!

Ilovecheese Sun 09-Jul-17 19:24:20

I don't give a fig either. These are what older women's arms look like, live with it!

Ana Sun 09-Jul-17 19:32:26

I haven't actually got bingo wings, but my arms are so skinny I suppose some may find them offensive...Hard luck! grin

Personally I hate seeing my bare arms - I look so old!!! Whereas I feel 20 years younger..

Charleygirl Sun 09-Jul-17 19:42:39

I wear what I want and if people do not like it, tough. If you saw me dressed now you would put me forward for "slut of the year award". I am cool, comfortable and not bothering anybody.

Yes I've been in loose shorts and top all day, extremely comfortable. Mind you just come back from a walk and did change before I went into cropped trousers, but a sleeveless too. It is boiling!! Too hot for sleeves.

I've lived in a loose cotton dress with shoe string straps the last few days I've had this dress over 30 years and it always gets worn in a heatwave. I love it as I can rinse it out and it's dry by the morning . I also change if I'm leaving the house grin

Iam64 Sun 09-Jul-17 20:20:09

Yes indeed, why give a fig, especially in this fabulous hot weather

Stansgran Sun 09-Jul-17 21:14:53

What fabulous hot weather? I'm wrapped up in my warmest pashmina( the one from darkest Peru) I'm in chilly old Durham. It was warmer yesterday but I've turned the leccy blanket on everyday.

Stansgran Sun 09-Jul-17 21:18:16

And I hate elbows,anyone's elbows.

I'm sure my mother would be appalled if she could see me in the summer. Vest tops and sleeveless dresses! Admittedly her arms were fatter than mine, but they still looked fat wrapped up in long sleeves. On the other hand I wouldn't expect anyone to put up with the sight of my knees and thighs, so those are always decently shrouded in long skirts or linen trousers.

Iam64 Sun 09-Jul-17 22:28:41

Sorry Stansgran, I assumed that because it isn't raining and is warm, almost hot, here in the north west, the rest of the country must be tropical.

suzied Sun 09-Jul-17 22:29:58

I love sleeveless dresses and tops easy to wear and you can put a loose shirt over if you want to cover up a bit - the air still circulates.

Swanny Sun 09-Jul-17 23:21:57

For some reason I've found the temperature these last few days harder to cope with than when it was 10 degrees hotter a couple of weeks ago! I even went out in a skinny-strapped vest top the other day that I normally only wear around the house. I love the hot sunny weather and don't care what other people think of my appearance as long as I am comfortable sunshine

travelsafar Mon 10-Jul-17 07:46:57

Its shorts and sleeveless top for me around the house and garden, but there is no way i would go out in the same outfit, floaty trousers or linen ones and cotton tops for me when shopping or out and about.

rosesarered Mon 10-Jul-17 08:17:57

I don't worry about what anybody thinks of my bare arms......it's hot!
Anyway, they're not bad for an old 'un.grin

Greenfinch Mon 10-Jul-17 08:36:02

I don't really care either. The need to feel cool dominates. The rest of the year I will keep them covered.

Teetime Mon 10-Jul-17 09:05:17

I don't have the best looking arms either although golf does help. I used to worry about showing my arms but as I am now 'invisible' it doesn't matter. grin

Dana6789 Mon 10-Jul-17 10:12:37

I would prefer to have fat arms rather than my thin but crepy loose skinned arms. I am usually very self conscious about them but when it's very hot I've decided to bare them and try to forget them. No amount of arm exercise seems to make a jot of difference!

radicalnan Mon 10-Jul-17 10:16:47

I have the arms of a wrestler, if anyone doesn't admire them, they don't mention it.

VIOLETTE Mon 10-Jul-17 10:33:06

No ...don't care and neither it would seem by looking around here does anyone else ! If someone doesn't like them they can always look the other way !! grin

Smithy Mon 10-Jul-17 10:38:35

My are arms are skinny and crepey so feel better with a short ish sleeve. But as Stansgran has reported no hot weather in the north east sadly, have had to put the heating on some days.

HootyMcOwlface Mon 10-Jul-17 10:45:10

I have lovely arms, but the ones on the old hag who lives in my mirror are horrendous!

nonnasusie Mon 10-Jul-17 10:48:30

40c here so definitely vest tops and shorts at home! Ido put cropped pants or a skirt on to go out though. If anyone doesn't like it hard luck!! We are staying inside between 11:00 and at least 4:00 . A good excuse to watch Wimbledon ?
