The right to bare arms!

Sleeveless here too in the East Midlands. I've noticed the beginnings of bingo wings but does it really matter? I'm in a sleeveless dress that I made out of an old sheet which looks fairly respectable though I wouldn't go out in it. It's too hot and sticky.

Hooty I have that same mirror. I also have a mirrored in the wardrobe and keep it under control by hanging a curtain over it.

I am around toddlers a lot and they are fascinated by my crepey skin, touching it very gently and looking at me with such curious eyes. I feel more comfortable in short sleeves so they don't get to see my wings.

....in the 18mths since we were in Australia my arms have become atrociousl..prob due to weight loss..unexplained?so in 4 weeks off to sons again in Oz for six weeks and daughters in Dubai on way home BUT wont be going sleeveless.wearing swimsuit etc feel really really self conscious now...Ive 'deflated'...like a flippin balloon?

My late MiL always believed that ladies arms should be covered when they reached a certain age and did so herself. Why are people mean about women as they age . I think you should please yourself whether you wrap your arms or not. We all age eventually...but more so than ever in this day and age we seem to have to remain permanently beautiful ....the likes of Helen Mirren etc. setting the benchmark for a glamourous face ...adverts for clothing which are aimed at older ladies ...yes those arms again...and impossibly thin people ...who never developed middle age spread.? I remember seeing a photograph of Sue Pollard (hidi hi) in her mini skirt ..punk hair..gaudy clothes ..etc. She was growing old disgracefully ..breaking all the expected dress codes for a certain age group. Yes she was a big name in the past and probably felt quite confident in doing this...I admired her daring though I would"nt dress like that myself. Wear what you want to wear as long as you are decent.

Shorts & sleeve-less top for me, do wear knee-length shorts or cropped trousers when I go out. I don't care what others think, although the sight of "paunchy" males without t-shirt or sting vest or worse still "muscle man" t-shirts I find a real turn off.

What I wear when I go out depends where I'm going.

Couldn't be totally naked in my home as I don't have curtains at most of my windows only blinds which don't close completely, don't want to frighten the horses or neighbours

My poor mum wore sleeves because she thought her arms were too thin. Just do it.

Good to hear how you are all dressing for the heatwave. Unfortunately, apart from the odd day, it seems to have by-passed my bit of N Yorkshire! Grrrr

I wear sleeveless tops all the time in this weather too and never even stop to think about what my arms might look like. I do draw the line at going out in shorts unless they are knee length though as I hate the look of cellulite although I see countless women, young and old, who go go out in short shorts and look terrible but don't seem to care!

It's 48 on Rhodes today so strappy tops in evening for me. I never cover my arms in summer. I feel the heat although I love it. They are my arms & I'll do what I like with them!

I don't notice anybody else's arms...just my own! I have never gone out of the house in a vest top or shorts...even on holiday! I usually wear cotton or linen blouses and linen trousers. I don't even own a swimming costume as I don't do beaches abroad.
Although I live 3 minutes away from one here in the North East a swimming costume is definitely not required with our climate!

My arms are wrinkled, which discomforts me, but I still bare them in hot weather. What I dislike, though, is seeing older women with enormous sagging breasts going about in public in skin- tight spaghetti strapped tops. There's just no dignity in it. Is it a class thing? Am I being catty?

W11Have you tried a swim dress.They have some lovely ones in Bon Marche and they hide a multitude of sins.
I bought one this year and i love it i feelflirty and young in it and i now go swimming more than i did before.It has given me confidence.

it's hot and humid here in the deep south - dorset!
the temperature is only[!!] 20 degrees today although it's been as high as 27 in the past few days.
i don't do hotter than about 18 degrees - as my grandaughters tell me i carry my own insulation and don't need the sunshine to help me keep warm.
i bought a "bandeau dress" a couple of years ago from asda - one of those strapless dresses with elastication over the bust. it's black and full length but, when i'm home, this is all i wear!! mind you i'm very conscious of my bingo wings so keep a sort sleeved cardi handy if visitors come [although that's not a good idea at the moment].

Ladies, bare as much as you want! Why not? I hate my bare arms AND legs and am not keen on baring them, but that's my choice. I had a bunion op earlier this year and find myself longing to bare my (previously ugly) feet! Still not warm enough up here in the north of Scotland though. Typical!

Caro I need to know - how did your bunion op go ?! I hate my bunions and it's so unfair, never wore fashionable shoes growing up cos was told it would harm my feet and look what good it's done me!

Go for it ladies. If you feel OK with what you are wearing so should the rest of the world. I now feel inspired to go sleeveless.

I've always hated my upper arms so covered have covered them for years. I've also had a brush with skin cancer so am much happier covered up. This doesn't mean that I'm more uncomfortable than those of you who are in the expose and be dammed camp! I wear loose tops or shirts that, I think, are lovely.
Yesterday I was out with my sister in a very sunny place all day, she ended up putting on my thin cardi when she decided that even with spf 30 her arms had had enough.
I cringe when I see so many silly people going redder and redder.

I've lost a ton of weight over the past year and a half and rediscovered my shoulders so they are on display whenever possible - even in the office!!! Have also managed the best tan since 76!!! My son and his family have just invited me to holiday in fuerteventura with them at half term and I have bought two swimsuits- oh I feel so free!!!! ??

I clean in the nude too. Of course I close the curtains. After all I don't want to scare the horses

My arms are crinkly and the skin is very dry. Despite rubbing cream into them. Any tips for lubricating them? My friend is older than me and we compared arms the other day hers aren't as bad as mine.

I don't care either. Not much can be done about older lady arms so if that's all we gotta worry about. ......

My DGD loves what she calls my 'squidgy' arms and often asks for an arm to cuddle when she is tired or fed up. I thought it was just our special 'thing' until we met her one of her nursery staff (a more mature lady) out one day and she asked if she could go over and cuddle her arm. The lady told me she loves her 'squidgy' arms too!
