Stressed

This post has no solution except time passing, but I am feeling so stressed right now. We are moving countries in a couple of months. The move involves 3 different countries (our buyer is from one country, we are in another country and we will be moving to the UK). There is a lot to sort out and pack, furniture to sell as we are downsizing, and now DH has gone down with a fever and diarrhoea which has so far lasted 3 days. I know things will improve but right now I need a hug!

Oh Dear , you sure do ! (((((((((((hugs)))))))))

aggie Sat 08-Jul-17 21:26:32

hope he is drinking and have you any Imodium ?

kittylester Sat 08-Jul-17 21:32:09

Sending hugs as requested. Does your Dh have an underlying bug or is it just a bug? This time next year you'll laugh about it all - honestly!

Antonia Sat 08-Jul-17 21:33:14

Yes, thanks, he is drinking loads. Imodium isn't available here but if it continues I will make a doctor's appointment as I'm sure there is an alternative. Thanks for the hug aggie.

Kitty, I think it's a stomach bug. I hope we'll be laughing next year too!

cornergran Sat 08-Jul-17 22:09:09

As many hugs as you need. Don't hesitate over the doctor if things don't improve quickly. That sounds quite a move.

Antonia Sat 08-Jul-17 22:11:58

Thanks Cornergran.

Hugs from me, too. Hope DH is feeling better.

If you can't get Imodium at least get some electrolytes into him.
If you can't buy any, boil rice and get him to drink the fluid.

How are things today, Antonia?

Antonia Sun 09-Jul-17 09:01:46

Hi Kitty, thank you for your message. You are so kind to enquire. He's a bit better today in that his temperature was nearly normal at 37.2, and he says he feels more energetic today, but so far 2 toilet breaks. The diarrhoea isn't stopping yet but we are hopeful. He ate half a banana for breakfast and drank a glass of water.

Antonia Sun 09-Jul-17 09:20:08

No, make that 3.

Jane10 Sun 09-Jul-17 09:24:25

This too shall pass. It really will. You've got lots to look forward to once the move is safely over. When you're settled in your new home you could maybe find a GN meet up to attend. They're not all like the infamous Argy Bargy cafe!

Antonia Sun 09-Jul-17 10:10:20

Thanks Jane10. I'll look out for local groups once we have moved.

kittylester Sun 09-Jul-17 13:11:10

Where are you moving to Antonia?

NonnaW Sun 09-Jul-17 13:20:07

Eating live yogurt can sometimes be helpful with tummy bugs.

Antonia Sun 09-Jul-17 15:34:30

Kitty, we are moving to Harrogate, (all being well and no-one pulling out at the last minute, we are in a chain so anything could happen). Thank you Nonna for your suggestion. He has had some Actimel and is eating better now, and the temperature is coming down slowly.

Jane10 Sun 09-Jul-17 16:13:55

Harrogate? Lovely! Fingers crossed all goes according to plan.

Antonia Sun 09-Jul-17 17:58:02

Thank you Jane10!

Never try to bung a tummy bug up with Imodium too soon as the bug needs to escape once it's gone and he starts feeling better in himself then if you can't get Imodium, arrowroot is a great bunger upper

JackyB Sun 09-Jul-17 19:54:34

I picked up a bug like that on holiday and am still recovering, weakened, lethargic and not eating nearly 4 weeks later. (The hot weather is not helping). I wish him a speedier recovery - he's going to need his strength.

Antonia Sun 09-Jul-17 20:04:07

I need to look up the French for arrowroot Bluebell! I don't think I'll mention the length of your symptoms JackieB, but he does seem to be improving a bit. Thanks for your support.

Um, if it's a tummy bug and not something he's eaten, can I suggest a remedy which an Australian sheep farmer told to me and which I have found to work?

Take a double brandy with a can of full strength Coke (not the slimline stuff, the original). He said what bugs the brandy doesn't kill, the Coke will!

It won't do any harm and may well work. I've tried it on two or three occasions abroad while DH has stuck to Imodium and chemists recommendations. I've been well the next day, he hasn't.

NfkDumpling Sun 09-Jul-17 20:18:11

(And perhaps you should join him in a glass!)
