Stressed

This post has no solution except time passing, but I am feeling so stressed right now. We are moving countries in a couple of months. The move involves 3 different countries (our buyer is from one country, we are in another country and we will be moving to the UK). There is a lot to sort out and pack, furniture to sell as we are downsizing, and now DH has gone down with a fever and diarrhoea which has so far lasted 3 days. I know things will improve but right now I need a hug!

Antonia - I've just seen your thread. Try to be strong and bear up - your husband too.
We're going through a similar situation and we're both feeling stressed.
We need to go back to the UK from France (old age physical problems, both of us) and had the first offer on our house here yesterday. He's in a right state, doesn't know whether to say yes or no as the offer is quite low. Me too. All our family want us to return (in spite of the problems in the UK).
It's the thought of getting rid of all the accumulated belongings of 16 years that worries me most. And our border collie will hate it in the UK after all her freedom here. Poor old cat as well.

I hope your husband recovers soon, stomach bugs are so debilitating.
I think I might try NfkDumpling's remedy, it sounds like it would work.
In the meantime, great big (((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) to you and your husband.

We lived on three different continents in 1 year, North America, Asia and northern Europe believe me you will get through it and be stronger for it. Our moves also involved moving animals and all the attendant vaccinations/rules and regs. Seemed overwhelming but you'll manage and hopefully your hubby will soon be well again. Good luck!

Huge hugs to you both ((((?)))). Moving is one of life's stressors, big time. I have just sold my flat that I have owned for 25 years, and rented out for the past 15 years or so, as I actually live in our shared marital home, so very little packing, but gosh, the stress, the delays, the indecision about what to do with the many 'things' that one accumulates, etc, etc, etc.

Good thing in many ways that your buyer wants to move a month early, less time for him to pull out and hopefully you'll get here sooner and enjoy our good weather.

Re tummy bugs (if that is what it is) a paediatrician I worked with, always recommended flat Coca Cola - the taste was ok, and it contains lots of stuff, and helps children (and presumably adults) rehydrate.

Anyway, it sounds as though the situation has improved, and your move is speeding up - so you'll get to Harrogate sooner, and have a chance to rest yourself. So flowers ? and a final smiley hug ((((?)))).

Lots of hugs to you and your husband, hope he is starting to feel better. Harrogate is a lovely place, I feel quite envious. I'm sure that you will cope with the move, and wish you all the best for your future.

Misha14 Mon 10-Jul-17 16:53:18

Apples help to stop the runs. Hope he is better soon.

Tessa101 Mon 10-Jul-17 16:28:19

Lots of great advise for hubby, I think you just need to deal with one thing at a time yes when you look at it as a whole it probably looks overwhelming but look at it seperatly and it's not so bad. As someone suggested you will look back and raise a smile by end of the year.Wishing it all goes well.flowers

Thanks for all the practical advice everyone! Today's boxes are packed and labelled so having a rest now. As I said DH feels better now but is still a bit 'drained.' Newquay I would love to meet up sometime, we don't know anyone in Harrogate yet except for DD2 and family.

Caro1954 Mon 10-Jul-17 15:33:45

Just seen this post - hope things are improving with DH. We were in your position this time last i.e. moving house with all manner of complications and I can totally sympathise. But it will pass and hopefully this time next year you'll be sitting in your lovely new house in Harrogate sending hugs to somebody else on GN! flowers

Just seen this post. Hope all goes well with the move Antonia and your husband is soon 100%. I live 30mins from Harrogate and it's such a lovely place and an old spa town. You're a short drive away from the beautiful Yorkshire dales and handy also for the coast where you can visit Scarborough and Whitby. ?

DanniRae Mon 10-Jul-17 14:36:40

Really good advice Franny!

Faced with a mountain of things to do and a move, I have found it helpful to take a sheet of A4 lined paper, draw
3 columns on the right. Label the first one begun, the second done, the third comment. Then list ALL the things to be done. It clears the mind a little and even ticking a begun item means progress.

Only just seen this post-? and hugs Antonia. Hope DH is continuing to improve.
I think the French for culinary arrowroot is. . . . Arrowroot although the botanical term is la marante btw.
Our DD2 lives in Harrogate so we visit there from time to time so keep in touch Antonia and we'll have a meet up sometime.
SO hope it all goes well. You'll need a rest after all of that!

ajanela Mon 10-Jul-17 13:49:55

Can sympathise. Just been to an appointment made 3 months ago to sort out some paper work to find I had been sent to the wrong place.

Moving is on the list of very stressful events, add the different countries and now your husband's illness you deserve all our hugs. Hope he is better and I have heard of the flat coke remedy. The whisky I think is to make one happy whilst sitting on the loo.

Harrogate a lovely place.

Lupatria Mon 10-Jul-17 13:39:02

my doctor told me years ago that the best thing for a tummy bug is flat coke [or lemonade i've found out] and rich tea biscuits. i suppose depending on where you are you could investigate the availability of both these.
hope he gets better soon and that the move goes well.

palliser65 Mon 10-Jul-17 13:34:23

Hugs and hugs. All will be over soon.

pollyperkins Mon 10-Jul-17 13:33:22

I would recommend seeing a doctor. I recently had a bout of giardia which was awful. The doc said always get medical advice if you have diarrhoea for more than 2/3 days. I waited a fortnight before seeing gp but it cleared up quickly once I got the right medication

Smileless2012 Mon 10-Jul-17 13:25:33

Just seen this thread and sending you a BIG (((HUG))); hope your DH is feeling better today.

EmilyHarburn Mon 10-Jul-17 13:09:39

Hug for you. Harrogate is a lovely place. Good Luck with the chain of buyers. Hope your husband continues to get better. x
