I'm scared! There, I've said it.

I'm going into hospital tomorrow to have a benign brain tumour removed. I've spent the last few days reassuring everyone i.e. family and friends, that I'm fine about it and really not nervous at all, especially my Mum. She's 86 and has naturally got quite upset about it. In truth, I really have felt fine about it. However I just finished off packing my overnight bag and it's sort of hit me all of a sudden, I'm done now being brave and finally admitted to myself and to all you GN's that I am a bit scared!

Perfectly normal to feel scared, and glad that GN is here for you to admit it to. flowers for tomorrow, hope it all goes well, let us know the outcome

Tegan Sun 09-Oct-16 22:35:46

I'm a complete coward about everything like that so I reckon you've been incredibly brave up till now. Things always seem at their worst late at night. Try to get some sleep. You'll be fine!! Hugs x

I'd be scared too. It's perfectly natural. I think you've been incredibly brave putting other people's feelings before your own. I hope it all goes well, I'm sure it will. Will you let us all know how it goes. I don't suppose you can eat or drink otherwise I'd be recommending a stiff brandy. flowers and a ((((hug))))

Well, that is not so very surprising really and each and every one of us would be feeling exactly the same when the reality of actually going in to the hospital dawns.
The best thing you can do when you get to the ward is to confide in them exactly how you are feeling. It won't surprise them as they will probably be able to tell by your blood pressure numbers. Anyway they will help you through it all as they have seen it all before and know how you are feeling.
The best thing about this is that you know that it is a benign tumour so there won't be anything nasty in the pipeline. Do you have a faith family to help you through this?
Do let us know how you are getting on and in the meantime you will be very much in our thoughts and prayers. flowers

I would be worried if you weren't scared. So much better to let it out in a safe environment i.e. GN. How horrid for you - being brave for others is what we are really good at so carry that one thought with you. Good luck NanSue. flowers

I be scared witless. I was a nurse my entire career, but I'm a total coward about medical procedures if they affect me. I hope all goes well, and good luck ( but I'm sure you won't need it). ??

Happy to pray for you if that is ok x

Goodness no wonder you're scared, you've only just found the space for your own thoughts in the midst of reassuring all those around you and suddenly it's all very real. Who wouldn't be scared? Thinking of you as you go into hospital, hope you're able to seek out and accept any practical and emotional support that comes your way over this period. X

NanSue Sun 09-Oct-16 22:53:46

Thank you so much for all your good wishes. I'm off to bed now to at least try to get a few hours sleep as I have to be on the ward by 7.30 and is a bit of a trek to the hospital in the morning rush hour. I'll report back when I'm I'm back and able.x

Good luck NanSue, it's normal to be scared, but you'll be fine. flowers

merlotgran Sun 09-Oct-16 23:21:11

Just keep saying to yourself, 'It's scary but I'm going to be fine.'

You've been reassuring others so now you have to reassure yourself. You will be in good hands and before you know it you will be on the road to recovery.

Best wishes for tomorrow.
