Biscuits!!! You could try some low fat sponge recipes.

Only allow yourself to eat low carb/sugar cakes. They don't always taste good so it might wean you off them!

I really don't like cakes - or the way our culture harps on about them. So why am I heavier than ever? Vegetarian for nearly 50 years and gluten free for three. I just thank my stars I DON'T like cake! Good luck with weaning yourself off your addiction, Newquay.

That's me too Newquay. I even kid myself I'll cut myself a half size portion at home, knowing full well I'll go back an hour later and have the other half. I justify it by telling myself I don't eat biscuits(well not many).

I'm almost positive cake has no calories due to its round shape...scientific study has shown calories just slide right off...

I love coffee cake and scones and cream but have noticed recently when I indulge in either, they seem over sweet - which ( fortunately) puts me off - for a while! However a neighbour who holds Macmillan Coffee Mornings makes a wonderful coffee cake that is not sweet! Thenext coffee morning is in three weeks - hooray!

I love cake too. I have stopped baking on a regular basis because if cake is there i HAVE to eat it!!! If i do succumb to a baking session i end up putting most of the cake in the freezer so it doesn't torment me sitting on the side in the kitchen. If grand daughter stays over we always bake, but she takes most of it back home for her family. Why oh why are all the nice things so bad for us!!!! lol

Eat two apples a day and plenty of oats.

Try the Mary Berry method. Have your slice of cake but don't go back for more.

I just love baking- always have. I used to bake for a living doing wedding & celebration cakes & teaching sugarcraft so I guess I am a lost cause. I would rather have a piece of cake than a meal at times. It is about comfort I think- the lovely smell of the cooking & the excitement seeing if the new recipe is as good as you'd hoped.
Plus I do have a very 'sweet tooth'. I try to only bake when I have someone coming round but every now & then I see a recipe I just have to try.(yesterday!! Mincemeat cake- very easy & there was some in the fridge that needed using up)
I'm taking some Lavender Shortbread round to a friend this morning so I don't eat it ALL.

My niece in Canada had a facebook share which suggested that if it sounds better than it is (e.g KFC etc), it's clearly calorie-free! I like that as a suggestion.

My main food enemy now is (or are) Warburtons Crumpets...
they are soooooo gorgeous. I'm trying to limit them to just one per day.

I am a cakeoholic too but I don't make anything as fancy as Craftycat

However, I don't make many cakes these days (after a couple of failures, i think it must be the oven) although I occasionally treat myself to a slice of home-made cake at a nearby visitor centre.

Yesterday I did make a gf apple cake which turned out well but I am going to slice it up and freeze in portions.

Although I don't have a sweet tooth, I would still be a cakeaholic if I baked them myself. When I used to bake them I would freeze them in slices, but I found that eating the slice straight from frozen was remarkably easy and digestible!

There are some recipes around for cakes with grated vegetables in. Carrot Cake is a well-known example, but there are cake recipes using courgettes, parsnips, beetroot, etc. Perhaps these have less calories.

Newquay - my advice is to only eat cake as a treat, and stop at one slice as Mary Berry says.

You could try Aversion Therapy - make a really sickly cake with loads of buttercream filling and icing and eat a lot of it at one sitting, until you feel so sick that you wish you hadn't eaten it! With luck you'll feel so it will put you off!

There's cake and there's cake. I'm sure that heavily iced, over-sweetened cakes don't do a lot of good, but what about the homely fruit cake, made with wholemeal flour, fresh eggs, and with some pureed orange or apple folded in? That's just one example of a nourishing and healthful sweet treat.
There are loads of recipes out there which won't raise your cholesterol or your weight too much, so dig in and enjoy.
I have a theory about being fat - it's worrying about it that causes it. Trying to diet all the time always leads to massive binges and poor food choices, so plan sensible meals, and eat LOTS until you feel happy and satisfied. Have your cake for dessert or afternoon tea,and share it with friends and family- much more enjoyable than eating it behind the kitchen door.
There are too many 'SHOULDN'TS' in the world today, and that includes cake - 'shouldn'ts' make us unhappy, so bin them and be joyful.

I was once hypnotised to deal with my cake problem. Was asked to visualise a cake which I did, a chocolate eclair. Have not eaten an eclair since. Everything else, but not an eclair. Shall we call that a partial result?

When asked to make a cake why not suggest making cheese scones. They lower your sugar intake and give diabetics something they can eat on these occasions.
Also when grocery shopping read the labels. See how much sugar is included in each 100grams of items savoury and sweet. Then buy the one that has the least grams of sugar per 100 grams. It will help you to lessen your sweet tooth.
