Subjects not clear in headings. . . .

I'm one of those who will sometimes type a cryptic title to a thread, not that I often start a thread.
I do it in the hope people will be intrigued enough to read my post.
Surely people can post how they like, as long as it's not rude or offensive.

I know, all that effort tapping a key and then the time wasted reading the first few words. It's exhausting

It doesn't bother me one jot. I do it all the time. I'm sorry if it upsets people.

Actually, most seem quite clear and specific, a few are teasers, why not?

I agree Newquay, but shortly after that thought, I have been known to write a cryptic one myself.
For me, I know what I am thinking about in my head, write the subject heading, and then realise that it doesnt mean anything to others.

Yes ninathenana, people can post how they like. I happily ignore the gransnetters who think and police otherwise if I have a mind to.

Not sure if I have disagreed with myself there. Too early in the morning for me to sort it out.

Sometimes it's not just the heading

I quite like an intriguing heading. It often leads me into discussions of topics I'd never thought about.

I d rather have cryptic headings than the infernal acronyms I hate them with a vengenence I always have to interpret them in my mind before 'getting it' I try to never use the buggers

I suppose it depends whether you want people to join in or not. I don't usually read the cryptic ones; life's to short. I agree with the OP but I am sure these less than amusing more like annoying titles will continue. .

I'm afraid that I was responsible for starting a conversation with a cryptic title. " Patience on a monument". I meant that I had been waiting patiently, but non productively, for a water feature in my garden. Someone didn't know why I had posted under a gardening thread. My logic is not always logical to others. (Just explaining).

Thank you. Ironically I have very clear thinking, but for some reason, my writing is not always very clear.
I think it stems from a number of things.
1. speed. I dont have lots of time, and tend to go for speed rather than total accuracy
2. I just dont care! I dont care if others dont write very accurate either, it is so easy to correct if there have been mix-ups, so absolutely no problem as far as I am concerned.
3. I am aware that I am not as highly educated as some, but so definitely do not see that as a barrier to people expressing their thoughts and feelings.

4. I probably do not automatically write brilliantly, but again, as in 3. that shouldnt be a barrier.

I prefer cryptic headings, most of mine are.

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion, but I find it sad that by your own admission you don't care whether others understand you, whether they get the wrong end of the stick, as it were, and I am afraid your "short of time" excuse doesn't really wash.

I am always of the opinion that most posters dont care if others write cryptic or wrong or whatever.
If they did, I would perhaps change.
But as I thought, I really dont think most people care in the slightest.

I don't see anything wrong with cryptic headings. If you don't think the thread is for you when you look at it, then don't read it. Simple!
