Talking to One's Self

Does anyone apart from me talk to themselves. Just now, I had to clean the bathroom and didn't feel like doing it, so I said to myself "Look, get on with it and just be grateful you're not a Victorian maid of all work!" Does that make me bonkers.? [it does help, though]

tanith Fri 26-Feb-16 14:23:35

No not bonkers , I do it all the time I think I'm having a conversation in my head sometimes until OH shouts up "who are you talking to up there", when I'm walking I sometimes do it when I need to have a conversation with someone that's going to be difficult so I have the conversation with myself first.

Haha! tanith-----just hope you don't speak aloud when walking down the street!

grannylyn65 Fri 26-Feb-16 14:35:14

I don't think it counts if one lives alone! grin

wot Fri 26-Feb-16 14:36:01

The programme on BBC 4 called "Thinking Allowed"- I used to think it was called "Thinking Aloud" and thought well so what! It's a clever title though. Bett er do more housework as I'm rambling now.

grin wot I have caught myself at it , luckily my walks usually take me down paths alongside fields so there's nobody to hear me..

wot Fri 26-Feb-16 14:42:18

Well, your paths could be missing GEMS of WISDOM!

Synonymous Fri 26-Feb-16 14:50:11

All the time wot but fortunately I still realise I am doing it. grin

Synonymous Fri 26-Feb-16 14:51:56

tanith just because you can't see anybody doesn't mean there is no-one there! shock

wot Fri 26-Feb-16 14:53:20

Well, I've got four people to talk to now: me, myself, I and Gransnet!

grannylyn65 Fri 26-Feb-16 14:58:14

Me too wot!!!

Lona Fri 26-Feb-16 15:00:52

I do it all the time wot, I live alone so it's normal! hmm
Yesterday I was walking home, chunnering to myself when a young woman sneaked up walked past me.shock
I think I'm turning into the local nutter!

grannylyn65 Fri 26-Feb-16 15:02:46

I see I really am invisible confused

wot Fri 26-Feb-16 15:19:29

Well, you're not invisible to me, grannylyn65!

tanith Fri 26-Feb-16 15:35:28

shock synonymous are they disguised as horses or bushes then? wink

Nelliemoser Fri 26-Feb-16 15:47:45

Me! often when i need to remind myself what I should be doing the "Now what did I come upstairs for" sort of dialogue.

I think it is useful. I talk to my plants nicely and I sometimes cuss weeds as well if they won't come out of the ground.

janeainsworth Fri 26-Feb-16 16:12:14

Lona I love that word 'chunnering'grin

GrannyPiggy Fri 26-Feb-16 16:20:16

I make it sound like I'm addressing my thoughts to the animals on our holding but I'm sure they have no interest in my decision making or complaining out loud, however I'm sure they like to hear my voice more than DH does when he's around lol

numberplease Fri 26-Feb-16 16:23:25

My grandma used to say that if you talked to yourself, you at least got an intelligent answer!

Marelli Fri 26-Feb-16 16:31:26

I talk to myself as I'm doing things about the house. I'm not a very tidy person, so really, I'm just giving myself instructions on how to carry out the task in hand. wink

grannylyn65 Fri 26-Feb-16 16:43:17

wot ???

hildajenniJ Fri 26-Feb-16 16:55:40

I talk to myself at work! I am mostly alone, but occasionally someone will walk in on me. My excuse is that I am thinking aloud. I talk to myself at home too, when DH is at work. Those conversations are usually addressed to the dog, so I'm really talking to her.?

LullyDully Fri 26-Feb-16 17:07:45

Surely if you talk to yourself you stand more chance of being agree wit, or maybe not..............confused

boheminan Fri 26-Feb-16 17:26:03

I not only talk to myself, but to just about anything within hearing that can't run away (eg: to record player) "you're a nice little thing, aren't you, it's about time you had a good polish" and I'll actually ^pat it^hmm. Cereal bowls and mugs are frequently complimented on their patterns and contents, the weather is a subject of loud praise or contempt from my kitchen window....

Brilliant! Nothing ever answers back grin

ginny Fri 26-Feb-16 17:43:53

Yep, me too. I do it a lot around the house and sometimes wonder if I have said something out loud when out in the street. I find when you are trying to make a decision it help to talk it through with your self.
