I am missing nothing at the moment as I found a spare Xmas cake at the bottom of a wardrobe.

Had to at this as it made me think of DF he had full dentures but only wore them out side the house, much to mum's disgust.
He managed to eat what ever he wanted with just his gums

Been there done that a couple of years ago when I went through 9 months of dental work and had a large operation at the beginning of the work to remove teeth, bridges and crowns. I looked like I'd been hit by a tractor and couldn't eat properly for several weeks even with a partial denture as it all healed up. Even then I found there were a lot of things I couldn't eat such as fresh crusty bread, anything sticky such as an iced bun or something that the denture would get stuck in. I had to visit the US for work during this time and was terrified the thing would come out while I was eating so resorted to the commercial denture fixative. I was so relieved when all the work was finished and I could eat proper food again. Hope you get your dentures fitted and be able to eat normally again soon.

went for a paper this morning and passed the local cafe - it does crunchy bacon baguattes i used to get -you can smell them miles away. AAAAAHHHHH!

Aw What a shame oldkranky, and that's such a long time to be like that. I didn't know dentists did that any more. I thought it was all plates and bridges these days.

jings the real question is why you had a spare cake in the first place?

Poor you oldkranky what a painful time for you, and it must be awful missing all the normal foods you would usually have.Hope it will be worth it though, when you have dentures, and no more problems.?

That's what I thought too, but I've been told my gums have receded too much on my upper jaw and there's nothing to be done about the remaining teeth there except hold onto them as long as possible. I know one of my molars will have to come out very soon, it aches every now and again, then it's ok for a few weeks, then it starts up again. I can't have bridge work done because the teeth I have left are not rooted strongly enough because of the receding gums .
So you have my sympathy oldkranky - I will very likely be eating baby food myself before very long

It is a little cake I bought from a church Xmas fair. Always buy one. They are lovely, and a very good price. Not all gone yet! (Sharing with DH)

jingle why on earth would you keep a cake in a wardrobe. That is the last place I would keep food, you could get flies/insects. Yuk.
are you a foodie and cant keep your hands off cake unless its hidden. Im a foodie too but if I knew where the food was I would eat it.

Yes of course you can - you'll need a spoon to scoop it out of the mug though. That wouldn't stop me.

I am missing my Mum and Dad today . My DD is expecting her first baby soon and we had a baby shower for her. Oh , how they would have loved being Great grandparents.

Poor you oldkranky . I dread the thought of dentures. My mother had all her teeth out for no apparent reason. I think it was to avoid paying dentist fees. Without teeth she terrified me and the actual dentures also scared me. It was that pink colour - yuck. I couldn't contemplate touching them.

A few years ago one of mine broke off and had to be removed. I had to wear a temporary denture with one tooth until a bridge could be fitted and I HATED it. I couldn't eat anything crunchy and strangely I craved salads! Hope all goes well for you and the time passes quickly.

jings, where else would you keep food treats? I found a tub of Celebrations in my wardrobe in October, from the previous Christmas. It came in handy for Trick or Treaters even though it was a couple of months past sell by date. (I did check them first!)

Indinana thanks for explaining why you would need all your teeth removed - I didn't like to ask. I was reading about titanium implants the other day. They cost a fortune for a complete set (at least £10,000) and are usually done in stages, but now a new system is available where it can be done in a day, even if you are not suitable for standard implants. It is called All-on-4 because the top and bottom dentures are each set into only 4 implants. Clever or what?

Grandma2213 I remember in the late 60s when I was little, knocking on my friend's front door and her Mum answered. I didn't recognise her because she'd just had all her teeth out in one go. The poor woman.

Years later I told my Mum about it years later and she said it was common practice back then. I thought it sounded like a good idea at the time, not realising false teeth don't give you the same bite as your own.
