How Many Homes Have You Had?

Married nearly 45 years, we have had 4 homes. We moved here 5 years ago, having downsized from a large 3 storey large house and garden. I adore this house with a passion I have never felt for our previous homes, although we are here because the house we were previously buying fell through just before completion. i just love it! There is nothing in the garden that I didn't plant there, and the house itself is slowly becoming exactly as I want. I can't imagine being anywhere else.

Six. If you include two bedsits and a caravan. Now have one, plus a spare.

Have been in this house 48 years now! I think I quite like it. And the garden.

Three homes in 48 years but still have two of them.

I married for the first time in 1976 and between now and then I've lived at 8 different addresses, including this one which I moved into when I married a second time in 2004. This is the nicest, happiest house of all of them and it's the longest I've lived anywhere, including during my childhood! I get itching feet often but my OH just says 'no!'. Perhaps this will be my last home smile

Too, too many if I count from when I was born. I'd rather not know!

Greyduster Mon 19-Oct-15 19:55:57

Nine, since 1966, but all but two of them have been Forces married quarters. We have no desire to move again!

rosequartz Mon 19-Oct-15 20:03:32

Do we count our childhood home(s) and rented property and student accommodation?

If so 8, if not then 3.

Three since leaving my parent's home to get married. This is probably not the last one. We intend moving nearer my DD and family when my DH retires next year.

Ana Mon 19-Oct-15 20:05:45

Oh goodness - if we're counting from birth then ten or eleven - five since my first marriage.

durhamjen Mon 19-Oct-15 20:09:46

Sixteen since I was married, but some of them were only six months rental.

rosequartz Mon 19-Oct-15 20:11:48

You must be an expert at packing up!

This is the longest I have lived anywhere and the amount of stuff we would have to get rid of if we moved again would need a roadful of skips.

About 25 in my life. Stayed in the same house until I was 18 so started well.

Haven't stopped moving since. Husband has a deep need to find new houses and move. Can be frustrating as I'm a bit of a gardener and have to keep passing gardens over to new people.

We are moving in a few years to what we are calling "our dosage house . " that is supposedly the final one........We will see.

We've had lots, because when we were first together OH was a junior doctor and you went where you were sent. But since we have been more settled we have had 5 homes - we were 7 years in the last house and have been here 20 years. I hope to be able to stay here now - we have so much junk I could not bear having to move again.

Three with parents, two as a student, seven since being married.
We've been in our present house 28 years and one day.
No inclination to move, though if DD and DSiL moved away from the area (they live 30 mins drive away) I think I might feel differently.

15 in my life - 10 with DH! I'm actually shocked to have worked that out! We have been in this house 22 years and we love it! Its a converted Victoria board school.

Katek Mon 19-Oct-15 21:54:20

14 with parents, 2 or 3 as a student and 7 since I married-not including various stays with grandmother in between postings.

gillybob Mon 19-Oct-15 22:04:21

7 in my life. 3 with DH . We downsized just over 4 years ago. I love if here. It's a pebbles throw away from the sea and only a few miles away from almost every member if my family . smile

I am intrigued to read how much we have all moved about. No wonder estate agents love their jobs!

Leticia Mon 19-Oct-15 22:27:02

5 since married
17 in total if you count childhood, student and single person.

grannyweeble Mon 19-Oct-15 22:50:38

Oh dear, I wish you hadn't asked! Including my childhood, I have had 33 homes. My DD was in the Forces, as was my DH. Some were only temporary, in-between postings, so may have only been for 6 months or a year. Others were for up to three years. We've calmed down a lot since retiring to Civvie Street, this is only our 3rd house in the last 22 years. smile

Amazed at some of your replies. I would expect forces families to have several moves. DD was only with her squaddie for 7yrs but moved 4 times.
I spent all my childhood in one house only moving from there to get married. I currently live in my second martial home (same DH) smile So a total of 3

From birth, 9, since marrying, 6.
When I was born, we lived with my maternal Grandma, my father having been killed in WW2, 6 months before I was born. When I was 3, my mother married again, and we lived in my stepfather`s council house. When I was nearly 13, I ran away to my paternal Grandma, where I stayed till I got married aged 20, and we lived in an old, ramshackle rented cottage a few doors from my Grandma. 2 and a half years later, we moved to a brand new house about 3 miles away, where we stayed for nearly 12 years, then hubby took a job on the other side of the country, and we lived in a little 12` touring caravan for 15 months, (us 2, 5 children and a cat!), before being allocated a council house 9 miles out of town in a tiny country village, more of a hamlet in size, but there was a tiny church which made it a village. We lived there for 3 and a half years, then moved to another council house nearer town after our car was written off by an idiot. We lived there for just over 3 years, then bought this house in town, we`ve been here for just over 30 years.

From birth until now - 13 different homes. The longest I've ever lived in one place was 20years and the shortest time was 8 months.

I would like to have lived in one place as a child and one place when I was married - but things didn't work out that way.

Nine since I married 46 years ago. 14 including childhood. Been here nearly three years and getting itchy feet again. Oh dear. Common sense will prevail - possibly smile
