Night storage heaters

Forgive my ignorance NanKate but I've always believed that night storage heaters were an incredibly expensive and not very efficient way of heating a home, have I been wrongly informed all this time?
I'm interested in your experience of them as you are replacing old ones it seems you are happy with the concept.

If you live in flats or apartments that are gas free you have to have night storage heaters. I'm wondering about getting one of those Dyson heaters as a way of bringing my heating bills down, so I could just give a room a quick balst of heat when needed. But they're very expensive to buy and I don't know how economical they are to use.

Well Tanith we have been on the Economy 7 heating system which has been reasonably priced over the years. Make sure if you get yourself any that you get ones that can be given a boost manually because they heat up in the night and if there is a sudden change of weather you need to be able to access more heat by having a convector or fan to increase the heat quickly.

All in all I think we would have preferred radiators but we couldn't afford them at the time and so went for night storage.

We have solar panels and I believe these can be somehow connected to storage heaters to charge them with "free" solar power in the daytime. Has anyone experience of this?
