I *HATE* LLOYDS BANK

Oh, that feels so much better!

I discovered today that a bill I had paid from a Halifax account, now Lloyds, had been returned as the bank declared that the account was fraudulent/corrupted

So I tried to get hold of the bank to find out what was happening.

I rang them up and put all my details in, the website didn't recognise them, so I rang the help line and got a stupid AI system that kept asking me for information, which I gave, and which they then said they did not recognise. Like the account number, entered from the card they sent me only a month ago. Then they decided that did nor recognise my date of birth. All information that had been recognised when I used the account last week.

I decided to try and talk to a real person, but either they do not have any or you can only access then if you have your account number and know your date of birth!!! So we went through the procedure again. At one point they recognised my mobile phone number, but needed my account number, but again did not recognise it when I entered it.

I clearly need to talk to a person to sort this out, but my nearest Lloyds bank is nearly 20 miles away!!!! Meanwhile the account is frozen and I cannot access it

Thankfully it is a joint account, so as soon as I have DH's death registered, I will transfer the account to the Nationwide, where my other accounts are and where there is a local branch.

Lloyds has taken over my Halifax credit card.
I have opened a new one elsewhere.

I feel your pain! I have been with Lloyds for over 50 years and now feel that customers are a nuisance.
Even visiting a branch involves logging onto an IPad held by a member of staff. I am unsure how it was ever decided that this is "customer service."

Grrrrrrr!! Is all I can add! I didn’t choose Lloyds! I was Halifax.

Hi Monica. I found when talking to AI if I say I want to talk to a human I get put through to one.

NotSpaghetti Mon 19-Oct-26 13:51:01

My local Nat West still has some great staff.
Hooray!

I tried that. It didn't work. I also tried saying nothing and waiting for it to revert to a person, That often works, but no, that didn't work either.

Do you have a local banking hub, Monica?

We have no banks within miles either but the banks that were here apparently are taking it in turns at a local banking hub in a convenient location. They are there for one day a week each.

How did you find out that the bill had not been paid? That message was not from a scammer, presumably.

Same here 😡

I’m trying to do my tax returns at the moment, I have an account at both. Trying to make sense and find out interest paid makes getting blood from a stone look as easy as making fairy cakes.

Jaxjacky Mon 19-Oct-26 15:31:15

I fell out with them many years ago and moved, now with Santander, on the rare occasion I’ve rung them I get a person, or did.

Postcode lottery winner then. Our business is Natwest & we've gone from business advisor coming out every 6 months as a courtesy, to the sort of rigmarole Monica describes if we want something basic like a new card.
plus they blocked out a/c (wildly in the green) on wages day because we hadn't jumped through some hoops on proving DH was himself (given the business has had the same account since 1978, a bit OTT I think).
3 local branches have closed recently, meaning a long (over 20 miles) round trip to pay in cash or use the banking hub (which is a lifesaver, but run by the Post office).

Sending them an email may work?

We left Lloyds years ago as we weren't happy with the business advice they gave us. We opened current and deposit accounts with Halifax (already had one long-standing account with them).

Then Halifax was taken over by Lloyds. Weren't happy. Now we've been moved to Lloyds. Even less happy as it wasn't our choice.

No problems so far, but prepared to move if there are any!

Lloyds has taken over my savings account from Halifax. As far as I'm aware, no Halifax customers were consulted about a possible sell-off (I certainly wasn't until I was told it was going to happen). I've been wondering whether to move my Rainy Day Fund elsewhere and this thread is making me think of stirring my stumps!

Fallingstar Mon 19-Oct-26 16:08:24

We were also nonplussed about moving to Lloyds from the Halifax. Had been with the Halifax for over 45 years.

I absolutely HATE contacting any large business online and to be honest all banks and Nationwide are the same now. They couldn’t care less about their customers. Play them at their own game and keep switching to get the bonuses. I’ve got just one account that I keep to do just that. It’s not my main bank account so I don’t have the hassle of all that. I’ve made £500;over the last couple of months. If banks don’t stay loyal to me why should I worry about staying loyal to them 😡

Lloyds has owned the Halifax since 2009. This changeover is merely a branding exercise. Lloyds have decided to amalgamate all the the other well known branded funds they own under the Lloyds umbrella. No doubt in 10 years time boutique banking will become all the rage and they will start to rollout all those old names again, Scottish Widows, Halifax, Cheltenham and Gloucester, Bank of Scotland

NotSpaghetti Tue 20-Oct-26 09:40:36

It's been more than branding from the credit card side.
We only had their credit cards and so with recent visa and Mastercard changes have had six new card changes and two to come.
Maybe we have been unfortunate with expiry dates etc?

BlueBelle Tue 20-Oct-26 10:11:42

I ve been with Lloyds since I started with a bank probably 50 plus years ago have never had a problem they have always been on the ball if I ve had any fraudulent activity
Maybe it’s just change and having no choice in the matter that’s upsetting

Witzend Tue 20-Oct-26 10:18:17

I went off Lloyd’s over 50 years ago. Right after I married and told them my surname had changed - I did want to retain my account - they demanded to know my dh’s name and his occupation.

Cue closing my current a/c and going joint with Dh at Barclays, as I’ve been ever since.

Absolutely. I’ve been with all of them.
We owe them nothing.
We left the Halifax when they sent our Solicitor £38,000 instead of putting it in our account.
We were living abroad at the time and only found out when our solicitor phoned us.

Rosie51 Tue 20-Oct-26 10:26:28

BlueBelle did you read M0nica's original post? I think that's more than being upset at just change when you can't access your own account.

NotSpaghetti Tue 20-Oct-26 10:27:59

My son is happy with Lloyds. He has had several other banks but this one suits him.
He lives abroad so maybe is happy with everything online. He will have different needs to me I suppose.
