What songs make you feel slightly sick? As if someone sugared your tea for you when you don't take it? Or you put it in once and forgot, then put it in again?

'Honey' IMO has always been the worst offender, but I remember cringing when that 'Grandad' song came on the television.

I think we may be in danger of repeating some of those well-loved songs which make some folk cry on another thread....grin

OK, I'll come out and say that 'Seasons in the Sun' makes me roll my eyes, and 'There's no one quite like Grandma' - YUK!

Oh yes, I see what you mean! I agree. But at least it gives everyone a chance to express themselves - or will it be War?

Defend your choice, people! Stand up and be counted, and admit to hating Two Little Boys!

Ana Thu 19-Jun-14 21:54:21

Yes! I always did...grin

Nearly everything by Elvis in crooning as opposed to rock'n'roll mode.

HollyDaze Thu 19-Jun-14 22:56:24

The one that the Spice Girls did - was it called 'Mama'? Something like that - too cheesy for words.

Stand By Your Man by Tammy Wynette - I can't even think of sufficient words to describe how nauseating I find that 'song'!

besottedgran Fri 20-Jun-14 00:46:25

" Hey, Paula" ----I think it was called.

besottedgran Fri 20-Jun-14 00:48:51

Or was it "Hey, Paul" ? Anyway, too sickly sweet. Can't remember who sang it.

Coolgran65 Fri 20-Jun-14 02:22:49

Can't stand The Birdie Song, Lily the Pink, The Music Man,

hildajenniJ Fri 20-Jun-14 07:51:44

wasn't it sung by paul and paula?

hildajenniJ Fri 20-Jun-14 07:53:22

I never liked Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town.

Grannyknot Fri 20-Jun-14 08:04:24

This reminds me of that song "Won't you please play a song, a sentimental song, for my sentimental friend over there ..."

Grumppa Elvis's voice was made for ballads! smile

Elegran Fri 20-Jun-14 08:44:07

Holly - particularly as Tammy Wynette has since revealed that her man was hitting her.

feetlebaum Fri 20-Jun-14 09:01:49

Oh yes - Seasons in the Sun - I love the original Brel song 'Le Moribond', but that just trivialises it...

For me - anything by Presley in any mode at all...

feetlebaum Fri 20-Jun-14 09:04:54

The Paul and Paula song was 'Hey Paul' - he was a nice bloke - happily weighed in carrying amplifiers and so on. She was a Texan racist...

I'd forgotten about that tour.

HollyDaze Fri 20-Jun-14 10:42:28

Grannyknot - the song you quoted was the first one that popped into my head when I saw the thread title!

HollyDaze Fri 20-Jun-14 10:44:31

I didn't know that Elegran I'm not a fan of C&W at all but that song was all over the radio stations at the time wasn't it.

janerowena Fri 20-Jun-14 12:43:04

I'm so relieved that there are other Elvis haters out there. I once dumped a really nice boyfriend because I couldn't cope with another Elvis song. Ever.

Somethin' Stupid by the Sinatras - mainly because it seemed so wrong to me that it was father and daughter, very uncool and a bit odd!

rosesarered Fri 20-Jun-14 12:53:16

jane I agree with all your choices, yeugh! Also yours Anaalso hilda and Holly hmmmn , some Elvis I suppose, but not all his records surely?
Two little Boys and Grandad have to be the worst ever.Along with Honey.
Wasn't there an awful Grandma song as well?Yes, the something stupid song is actually quite a nice song but made creepy by the father/daughter combo.I never like I Got You Babe either, even at the time it came out.
There was also a truly awful record called Leader Of The Gang [sung badly by a woman in the 60's] not to mention Tiptoe Through The Tulips by a big guy with a falsetto voice.

janerowena Fri 20-Jun-14 12:58:47

Oh heavens, I had forgotten him!

Oh, he just reminded me of Ken Dodd! Didn't he do an appalling song about Diddy men or something?

And - 'Shut Uppa your Face'! shock

KatyK Fri 20-Jun-14 13:09:33

Oh yes Tiny Tim ! The lyrics to Honey are dreadful. It's as though they thought of any word that rhymed and fitted it in and.....'see the tree how big it's grown, but friends it hasn't been too long, it wasn't big' confused

TriciaF Fri 20-Jun-14 13:25:21

"My Baby Takes the Morning Train" - Pamela Stephenson and Rowan Atkinson did a very funny skit on this soppy song. I think it was in Not the 9 o'clock News.

Patches, I'm Depending on You, Son by Clarence Carter YUK

Deck of Cards - Wink Martindale (whatever sort of name is that?)

HollyDaze Fri 20-Jun-14 14:12:49

Anyone remember A Boy Called Sue? A lot of people didn't like that but it used to make me smile!
