Sentimental song, sentimental melody...

I was never a Tom Jones fan but saw him a couple of times in the '60s when he was on with other people. He happily signed autographs backstage afterwards. I was really into all the Liverpool sound and wasn't really into powerful singers, but I was at a friend's house once and she played With These Hands by Tom Jones. I can remember the hairs on the back of my neck standing up at the power of his voice. I think he's great these days.

roses I went to a Tom Jones concert a few years back and after the interval, he came out alone on stage and sang "Green, Green Grass of Home" solo and acapella. It was magnificent.

That was such a fun day. The whole front row of the audience consisted of some old dears and there were even some Zimmer frames. Well, after the first number, just about the whole row got up and walked forward as one, lifting a chain of big granny bloomers all stitched together and ceremoniously handed them to him at the front of the stage. It brought the house down.

I was never a huge Tom Jones fan, my friend had bought the tickets and invited me, but after that day he gained a lot of respect from me because he was so generous to the audience, and friendly, and sang for us way longer than some of the other "big stars" I've heard in concert.

Petallus in your shoes I may have become selectively deaf at the second part of the sentence.
There again if you've always had 'jowls' perhaps they are part of your attraction for him - either way it is nice to receive a well intentioned compliment.

He suddenly blurted out 'you are still a very attractive woman for your age except for your jowls which you've always had'

From the horse's mouth: Lionel Richie said he was inspired to write the song (Three Times a Lady) because of a comment his father made about his mother. His father said to his mother "I love you. I want you. I need you. Forever" hence the three times a lady.
I would have said that was a bit OTT for a man to say to his wife, but just this week the Wonderful Man, who is NOT noted for being romantic actually told me he adores me. The shock of it still hasn't receded.

Oh yes, some really truly annoying ones mentioned on here. Many I was too scared to say that I hated at the time because wrath from family and friends would have descended on me. You forget how you have to pretend to like things when you are young, just to keep the peace.
