The BBC Cuts

I agree that it is really annoying when programmes you particularly like are axed.

But regarding things like Strictly (which i have watched, but can take it or leave it), don't the BBC make a lot of money from selling them to other countries? I could easily be wrong about that, of course.

Our habit is to wake up early, make tea and drink it watching Breakfast - even on a Sunday - which is also to be cut.

But I watch Strictly and enjoy messaging daughters and granddaughters during and about it.

I enjoy strictly. Many of the cuts appear to be aimed at the older generation and the majority of youngsters are just not interested.

Perhaps there is a sneaky plan to get rid of the BBC by assuring there will be very few viewers.

It is not worth the money we pay each year. I think Strictly should have been given a break this year and would get rid of Shirley Ballas as she is not impartial.

As we have discussed before, there should be two separate sports programmes during summer to accommodate tennis, horse racing and some athletics.

The government needs to agree a way to fund the BBC appropriately without being able to tell the BBC what to do. It has to stay independent. Not a subscription model or advertisements. The BBC is respected world over and is of great value to us at home and abroad and should be sustained for us all. It has not been perfect - no organisation is. But in times of trouble it has been the most trusted source of reliable and truthful information.. And at all times we need reliable news.

I wish they would stop sending a reporter with crew to report on a trial from outside the relevant courtroom. Couldn't they just report from the nearest studio? Also, if something big happens in Scotland, and presumably in Wales and Northern Ireland too, they have local teams reporting on the local news and a team from England reporting on the "national"news. Stopping that might save a bit of money.

I read they are definitely chopping BBC 3..they reinstated it not that long ago.. Amol Rajan is not being replaced either he's earns around £320k. Will be interesting to see what actually happens. Plus why do they send several reporters to the same area in either this county or overseas.? To report on the same thing?

Just axe the football, that would save plenty, it dominates tv nowadays and not just world cup matches either.

It does get plenty of viewers when the World Cup is on, but programmes like Final Score are a complete waste of money. All you need is someone to read the results and show the tables, which are available online anway. Instead the BBC spends £21 million a year on presenters and pundits who aren't needed and spin the programme out for an hour.

I'm going to miss Amol. He really raised the bar as an interviewer. He took no prisoners, but was never rude like some others!

If they really want to save some money, why on earth do they need dozens of different presenters on morning live? They bring in so many different people whose original occupation had nothing to do with presenting. But why employ so many, it's pointless, in my opinion, just use 4 or 5 regular presenters who have the range and experience to do the job capably.

Greciangirl I'd second that! The whole weekend seems to be filled with football.
I'd add cooking programmes. I like cooking but an awful lot of recipes seem to include recipes with a bit pricey ingredients.

dulostwoll why do you say it is an ‘horrible organisation’? We all,have different tastes but the BBC offers enormous variety catering for diverse tastes and is usuallly less biased than other media. I know many say otherwise but I have usually found it to be far more balanced that others.

There are savings to be made I am sure but no where else can you get such well produced innovative content.

I love the radio but commercial stations are dire. BBC provides me with all my entertainment and information. It does not dumb down, I am amazed when scrolling round what a load of rubbish is broadcast. I hope BBC remains providing world wide availability and admiration.

It is not expensive compared with other streaming services.

I'll really miss some: my guess it they have to base some on current viewing figures sadly. Like moneybox is great, but there is so much online advice now.

BBC News Channel is, in most parts, just really BBC American News

Most of BBC 4 is repeats and mainly educational and I watch it all the time. It was, I believe, tied up with the Open University but maybe the powers that be don’t want people to be educated .

I don't like having to pay for things I never watch like Wimbledon. It's like going into Tesco and being given a bill for Morrisons on top. Yes the BBC was great in the old days and you didn't mind paying, but to me a lot of the time, it's become like ITV without adverts.
Not related to the BBC, but Sky has taken over ITV. This is one broadcaster I watch even less than the BBC, except for horse racing and the occasional drama. I am hoping Sky can invest in better programmes as ITV has been dire for the last 20 years.
