Hi all

I recently had a hysterectomy and so I am recuperating and looking for a really good TV series to watch. I loved watching Last Tango in Halifax, The Split, Happy Valley, Call the Midwife and currently watching The Flood when its on. I love anything with Sarah Lancashire and Nicola Walker in. Any ideas?? Thank you for reading.

The Detectorists on Nextflix.

It’s a gentle and thoughtful comedy drama.

I know you would enjoy it.

Unsure if anyone has mentioned this but you do not have to subscribe to ITV X - it is free to view with adverts ...

The Pact was very good, series 1 and 2 BBC iPlayer
The Act was very good if you can find it - US based on true story
The Gilded Age
The English - this and the next 2 are bizarrely Westerns, but not as we know them!
1888
Yellowstone
Nichola Walker - Annika, The Split, Unforgotten, Inside Men, Collateral, A Mother's Son
Sarah Lancashire - The Accident, Kiri, Mother Father Son, Julia
You may also like one called Harry Wild?
May be worth getting a month's subscription to Netflix or Amazon Prime and cancel when things are back to normal?

both absolute gripping, fantastic acting, and many episodes, so should take you to full recovery - get well soon!

AshleysGran

The Traitors on BBC iPlayer.

Knowing nothing about it we were just going to watch one episode, to poke fun at it, but foun
d unexpectedly compelling and binge-watched both series!

Isn't it good! You can watch it on iplayer from the US and Australia too (although if they in Oz are representative of their best, then ??

Also Squid Game is of a similar ilk ... quite compelling too (and generally I can't abide reality tv!) There's another called TRUST too on Netflix

Very fond of Seaside Hotel on Channel 4 Drama.
Danish with subs but lighthearted and funny; an antidote to all the terrible dark stuff on offer. Liked it so much that when I watched what Ch 4 had on offer I bought further dvds from Denmark. There are 8 series in all covering the Thirties and Forties.

GraffaC & I have watched Kin on BBC iPlayer, it was compulsive viewing and not our usual style at all, being all about drug barons & Mafia type gangs in Dublin but we couldn't leave it alone. We're now waiting for the 2nd series which starts next week. In the meantime, we've found 5 series of Love/Hate on itv x which is very similar, we're well & truly hooked & are working outer way through it. If you want a good thriller, either of these will hit the spot but they are quite graphic....

Schitts Creek on Netflix. We are just at end of watching the whole series for the 3rd time.

Nagmad2016 Mon 05-Feb-24 17:26:21

If you have Netflix I have been watching Fool Me Once based on Harlan Coben's book and The Stranger, (also Harlan Coben)
There are 6-8 episodes. The Boat (BBC) and The Tourist (BBC) were also very good.

GolferGrandma Mon 05-Feb-24 17:26:21

I really enjoyed Signora Volpe with Emilia Fox, on Drama TV. I believe there is another series due. I missed it on TV first time but caught it on UK TV play on computer.
I'm told Fool Me Once is very good, Netflix, but don't have a contract to watch that.

Nagmad2016 Mon 05-Feb-24 17:28:04

Mine was the same so I bought an Amazon Fire Stick (about £30) and now I can access all of the catch up channels.

2420mags Mon 05-Feb-24 17:35:35

Annikka ( 2 series ) Nicola walker
Vigil - 2 x 6 parts stories who done its = Suranne Jones
Delicious - Dawn French, Emilia Fox
Signora Valope -set in Italy / detective - Emilia Fox
Madame Blanche mysteries.
Campion
Father Brown........................ to name but a few
You can get old series from BBC iplayer, Channel 4 & 5 replay services.Sometimes jogs your memory for things you missed

If Hidden does turn up again it is well worth a watch, if you don't mind dark and atmospheric. Great North Wales locations too.

jerseygirl Mon 05-Feb-24 17:43:25

Try:
Grace on itvx great police drama starring John Sim
Goodnight sweetheart on itvx there's quite a few series of this.
Its a sin on channel 4
Still game on BBC I player
ITVX is great and has a good selection of oldies. Its free as long as you don't mind a few adverts. You get used to them. I don't think its worth taking out a subscription.

Littleannie Mon 05-Feb-24 17:47:42

MadeInYorkshire
Yes, you can watch ITVX without a subscription. But you get the adverts, which you don't get with a subscription, also you can't access all the lovely Britbox stuff. You need the £5.99 subscription for that. Well worth it in my opinion.

Littleannie Mon 05-Feb-24 17:49:35

jerseygirl
Sorry, sort of crossed post.

Liz08 Mon 05-Feb-24 17:56:36

I pay the ITV X subscription to stop all those annoying adverts.
Every time a programme skips over what was obviously and advert break I think "well that was worth tuppence". grin

I went to school with Mark Williams and was born in the same hospital at the same time as he was born.
