Hi all

I recently had a hysterectomy and so I am recuperating and looking for a really good TV series to watch. I loved watching Last Tango in Halifax, The Split, Happy Valley, Call the Midwife and currently watching The Flood when its on. I love anything with Sarah Lancashire and Nicola Walker in. Any ideas?? Thank you for reading.

I found Recipes for Love and Murder. I absolutely loved it and binged series 1. Its set in South Africa but really quirky and very watchable. Another one is Signora Volpe. It stars Emilia Fox who I am not fussed on, however she is very good in this series. Good luck.

I've just watched the four episodes of The Cuckoo. I found it interesting and quite gripping.

Derby & Joan is having a rerun on Drama channel, not what you expect from the name it's a Brit woman and an Aussie man each with their own agenda who end up travelling together in a camper van in Oz, pleasant viewing. A new season of Signora Volpe starts on May 1 which I also thought was pleasant viewing.

Well I don't consider myself a twit and I enjoy Beyond Paradise. Gentle, sweet, pretty to look at and fun little stories. It's very relaxing and diverting after a busy day of decorating the house and gardening. Not everything has to be full on.

I used to live in Cornwall so love to watch anything about that area. Having said that, I spend most of my time in Northumberland these days but don’t watch Vera as I find it a bit depressing and dreary! I hadn’t realised till the other day that Beyond Paradise was set in Cornwall. A lot of what I watch is very violent ( eg American Primeval, House of the Dragon) so I have to balance it a bit with stuff like Doc Marten.

I like Beyond Paradise. It sort of reminds me of Doc Martin. The geography I suppose. Gentle humour and interesting characters make for good viewing in my my opinion. I don't like nasty thrillers and murders, car chases, guns and explosions are absolutely not for me.

I’ve never watched Beyond Paradise but caught the tail end of tonight’s episode and think I’m going to start watching it from series one.

It's a bit drippy!!
Too much silly sentimental stuff.
If you are not a twit you'll probably turn over , very quickly!! 😶

Vera or The last tango in Halifax or may be Happy Valley possibly Doc Martin All of the above are brilliant and I often go back to them as there is so much rubbish currently on the box. 🙃

I've just watched Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes on iPlayer. Absolutely gripping story lines. Fantastic characters, brilliant acting, very funny and fabulously nostalgic recreations of the 70s and 80s.

Thank you. I'd forgotten about The Capture.
Just started season 2.

Mob Land with Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy in Paramount is a must. Quite violent and bad language, but a really good gritty watch.

Helen Mirren is in as many things as Judy Dench and Olivia Coleman. Where do they get their energy from!

The Capture on Netflix.
You will never believe anything you ever see again as evidence of a crime being committed.
Brilliant.

Purplepixie - sorry I've just thought about this resurrection of your thread - sorry I'm piggybacking on it! - hope you are 100% feeling good again after a year or so.

A good thing about A Thousand Blows is that it doesn’t have any steamy sex scenes in it ( as have been watching it with the family this week and thinking it was going to be Peaky Blinder’ish! blush)

I've just finished watching the 2 series of Black Snow on BBC I Player.
Both set in Australia, worth watching.

I'm re watching Mad Men. It's about the advertising industry in the 1960s. So much smoking and drinking - hard to believe these days. Good characters and storylines

I’ve just started Your Friends and Neighbours series - first episode a bit slow but I’m intrigued to see how it ends.

Feud is another which has hooked me, I may binge that this weekend if the weather doesn’t improve!

I just finished American Primeval on Netflix, it is very graphic and violent but a very good story. A woman is trying to travel west to meet her husband and is accompanied by her son. She has to pay guides to accompany her and the journey is very perilous.

I binge watched it when I was staying at my daughters recently. I was absolutely gripped by it. Reminded me of The Revenant which I also loved. The Last of the Mohicans was on tv the other night. I bought the dvd after seeing it at the cinema but have never put it on. However, whenever it’s on tv I find myself gripped by it and have to watch it. Often chat to people on Facebook about it because so many people rave about one certain stand out scene. The music is superb, too, as is the acting.

The Other One.
It’s been out a while but I watched it all again because it’s side splittingly funny.
Brilliant cast.

1883 was excellent, if a little gory. A prequel to Yellowstone , I believe Netflix ?

Tenko Tue 15-Apr-25 17:14:04

White lotus
Yellowstone
This City is ours
Mobland
Kin
The last three are quite violent but has a good cast and some strong female characters.
