Hi all

I recently had a hysterectomy and so I am recuperating and looking for a really good TV series to watch. I loved watching Last Tango in Halifax, The Split, Happy Valley, Call the Midwife and currently watching The Flood when its on. I love anything with Sarah Lancashire and Nicola Walker in. Any ideas?? Thank you for reading.

Five Bedrooms was really good. An Australian series, which, I think, was on BBC. The first series of The Missing was particularly good. Also Fargo.

That’s quite a hard question to answer because you don’t say what you got available to watch things on live amazon Netflix paramount etc I could name loads but if you don’t have any of those or others then pointless mention them I watched the neighbours next door but then I like Sam lol having watched him in outlanders which is brilliant since lockdown Ive watched that much of different things that I probably wouldn’t have given two though about before and I’ve enjoyed them so maybe watch something out your comfort zone you might surprise yourself

Sarah Lancashire in Julia on NOW tv. So different from other roles but just the best. Binge watch 2 series - you will feel so much better

When I was recuperating I watched Silent Witness from the beginning. A lot of old series can date very quickly but I found this wasn't the case with SW. It was also interesting to watch the changes in forensics.

Finders Keepers
TrueLove

True Love is excellent - not a romcom as the name might suggest but highly appropriate for those of us in our twilight years. Stars Lindsay Duncan and Clarke Peters, plus Sue Johnson, Phil Davis and Peter Egan. It's free to stream on Ch4. Enjoy!

Another recommendation for Detectorists, plus I’d suggest The Thief, his Wife, and the Canoe (ITVX).

Succession was the best series on tv. ( if you can find it )
Fool me Once. Netflix
The Night manager
Just started Expats on Apple TV 👍

Trigger Point is fab if you like edge of your seat drama.

Free on IPlayer Silent Witness from the very first series. I think that makes 23 series. Also if you have a Netflix subscription the author Harlan Coben has five series of great detective thrillers. I wish you well wish your recovery. I’ve been down that road.

Not sure if you have watched yet but it’s on at the moment on ITVX Trigger Point it’s gritty but excellent also a golden oldie Hustle on bbc iplayer I absolutely love all of them

For Marmin (& others) -- Father Brown is almost endlessly on Drama Channel - they must have made millions of them?!

MaiBea Mon 05-Feb-24 14:37:43

Keeping Faith on BBC iplayer, 3 series and a fabulous soundtrack too

Gilded Age Sky Atlantic

No Angels, about 4 (I think) nurses sharing a house, was brilliant, if the hospital theme doesn’t put you of. I think it was on ITV. If you like politics, VEEP was very funny - I bought it off Prime video. I almost understood the American electoral system by the end!

For PurplePixie, (& others) check the Talking Pictures channel, lots of older films and TV, also some back-in-time little films called 'Look at Life' - which remind us of the informative little films you used to get at the pictures?

We love the original Maigret series on there (Sat evenings) and they also show the French series with Bruno Cremer (90s), slower pace, and subtitles, but they're done very well. They've also got Worzel Gummidge, Out of Town, Public Eye, Gideon's Way, Roger Moore in The Saint, Rumpole of the Bailey, and this week a Doctor film, and The Card, with Alec Guinness, Glynis Johns and Valerie Hobson.

You can watch Talking Pictures TV on Virgin 445, Freesat 306, Freeview or Youview 82 or on the Sky digital satellite platform, channel 328.

Death in Paradise has just restarted (BBC), and old episodes are (like Father Brown) almost endlessly on Drama channel. Alibi channel has some good detective series, if you like that sort of thing.

On C5 now on Tuesday evenings is Dogs Behaving Very Badly, just so funny as the host tries to find the key to problem dogs while gently educating the many daft owners on the show?! And past series would be on the 'iplayer' My5?

I second Julia on (Sky) Now TV starring Sarah Lancashire with David Hyde Pierce and Bebe Neuwirth, (Niles and Lilith from Frasier).

If you have Disney, Only Murders in the Building is very funny. Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez star.

Broadchurch on ITVX

Five Bedrooms was great and easy to watch.

Spooks

We’re enjoying Darby & Joan at the moment on Drama. It’s a nice easy watch based in Australia starring Greta Scacchi & Bryan Brown. Plenty of warm sunshine for our cold winter.

AshleysGran Mon 05-Feb-24 15:10:32

The Traitors on BBC iPlayer.

Knowing nothing about it we were just going to watch one episode, to poke fun at it, but foun
d unexpectedly compelling and binge-watched both series!

Valeriejane Mon 05-Feb-24 15:10:44

The Tourist.

I'd really recommend ITVX as well. We can always find something to watch.
