I've noticed that a new series of Vera, which I've never watched before, starts tonight. Does anyone recommend it?

Yes definitely one to be recommended, Brenda Blethyn does a brilliant job.

Jane10 Sun 19-Mar-17 13:24:45

Oh yes. You're lucky - you've got so many previous episodes to watch too. Very very good Vera!

Cherrytree59 Sun 19-Mar-17 13:30:40

Yeh from me.
Looking forward to it
Its the one programme I don't have to watch on catch up as DH is also a fan smile

The books are good too.

Welshwife Sun 19-Mar-17 13:52:48

I love it too - great relationship between Vera and her team.

Charleygirl Sun 19-Mar-17 14:08:51

Have been looking forward to watching this new series once I realised it was being shown so soon. I love it and have only missed one episode.

Parsleywin Sun 19-Mar-17 15:09:03

Thank you everybody for your ringing endorsements. I've set the series to record and am now looking forward to getting stuck in!

willsmadnan Sun 19-Mar-17 15:36:08

Thanks from me too. I've only just discovered Vera, having read one of Anne Cleeves books from the mobile library . I feel as if I know her now. Looking forward to the new series.... I like most things Brenda Blethyn is
in.

Badenkate Sun 19-Mar-17 16:21:00

Thank goodness. At last something decent to watch on Sunday evenings smile

aggie Sun 19-Mar-17 17:01:37

having read the books my pictures don't match the tv sad

Badenkate Sun 19-Mar-17 17:12:50

No, Vera's quite different to her description in the books. But the TV stories are good. I still enjoy watching them.

BlueBelle Sun 19-Mar-17 17:12:58

I ve never watched it either might give it a go

callgirl1 Mon 20-Mar-17 02:59:51

I was a bit peeved when I saw it was back tonight, as I`ve been in London all day, special treat from my daughter. So I will have to watch it on my laptop, cos I love it!

BlueBelle Mon 20-Mar-17 05:09:28

Did not find it as enthralling as I expected maybe because I ve never watched Vera before it ll take me a bit of getting used to her

Jane10 Mon 20-Mar-17 06:32:50

I found it a bit dull sorry to say. I'm not saying it was boring but...

ninathenana Mon 20-Mar-17 06:44:41

Oh dear, I was all eager and flippin slept through a lot of it !
Catch up it is then.

Christinefrance Mon 20-Mar-17 08:04:03

Yes its not as action packed as some police series are but enjoyable because of this in part.
I am always reluctant to watch tv programmes based on books I have read. The characters rarely match up to those in my imagination and the stories are changed.
Ann Cleves is a prolific writer, I enjoyed her Shetland series too.

paddyann Mon 20-Mar-17 09:17:15

Vera and Shetland are two of my favourite crime series,I'm not a blood and guts and bad language type of viewer so its a bettermatch with my taste.I think Brenda Blethyn is very good as Vera and the casting in Shetland is fab too
